Castlevania is interesting but tell my why we get three episodes of internal conflict in the dracula castle (good) while the main characters are on a library and do fuck all. Well they have three scenes of relationship building that are supposed to mean something when they come out but they are so little and superficial imo
#and why the hell was season 1 four episodes#alucard and trevor hating each other is understandable but the resolution is fuck all and do not get me started on sypha and trevor#or sypha and alcuard. also sypha talks like she is supposed to reveal their inner workings and thats so bad.....#trevor and alucard are teens stuck in men bodies so they dont get along ok. can i know why....#also they were laughing and joking in gresit so what happened all of the sudden. the library is no excuse bc alucard knew who trevor was#idk man. its such a nothing burger. sypha and trevor relationship comes out of thin air wdym youre the best. since when are you being honest#am i going to blame this on a short episode count and also short episodes. yeah maybe. plague upon the earth#but them stuck in the library for three episodes and doing fuck all is just.... why#also dracula your war council is WHACK#get better fighters what is thus#also why is alucard a wolf. and hus flying sword. i an sure it is explained in the games but hello can i know why#why are we fighting in the study....#you know maybe i dont care bc alucard killing his father was very good. wish it made me care about trevor or sypha#and the dialogue wasnt so cringe sometimes#i respect sypha's two boyfriends grind i do. by god she will make them get along#wished i cared more.....#sypha telling them how they have grown as characters.... stop.....#hector has been kept as a pet noooo.....#not his face carmilla.... thats his biggest asset....#girl are you making marriage bows on the wagon after a week??? girl..... did he suddenly stop smelling like piss bc he sure didnt bathe#dont you worry ablut feeling lonely alucard im on my way.... if you will have me bc i am not sure about that yet but i will try alas#that last cry was just a little treat bc damn#you know alucard and dracula are the thing here and they dont even talk until the end.... travis and sypha on the other hand....#talking tag#watching castlevania

Okay so my issue with the entire alucard arch and the twins is the fact that it is probably the weakest story element in the entire plot. First off, castlevania is horribly slow to start in every season i have watched (ill let season 1 slide because it was not originally supposed to be a season). The first episode always feels like filler (very pretty to watch but doesnt add much in terms of plot. Its all exposition). This will contain spoilers, obviously.
The entirety of Alucards arch did not add anything to the main plot. To his character, yes, but at the moment there is no clear path between him and the main plot anymore. With Dracula dead he has no personal stake in the matter, he literally holed up as a hermit and last touch with time and almost reality (i.e. the puppets).
So when the twins show they immediately try to shoot his ass, then they explain themselves, then they are grateful for the rest of the season until episode 9 (which one of my favorite blogs has called The Fuckening and honestly same). The entire time we gain no inkling of their motives, we gain not inkling of their past beyond vampire lady, we ran, we came here. There is no mention of anyone they have talked to or asked for help in the past. As far as we know they B-lined directly to Alucards door and that was that. I knew the entire time what The Fuckening would entail for Alucard and the twins (i dont mind spoilers). I was watching from episode 1 for signs of betrayal. You know what I found?
Nothing
There was not a single thing out of place. There were 2 people giving a backstory, 2 people laughing and having fun, and two people showing zero signs of wariness or mistrust in any way. The closest they got to suspicious was talking about moving the castle and not taking no for an answer, and the one incredibly vague conversation between the two on the way back to the castle from the hold. You gain nothing from it, even knowing what will happen.
There are zero existing motives or reasons that are presented to the viewer before episode 9 as to why the betrayal would take place. The motive revealed in The Fuckening? “No one has ever helped us,” “Everyone lies to us,” “Why would you be any different,” etc. Those lines alone show two incredibly damaged and incredibly mistrusting individuals that we knew nothing about until that moment. The betrayal wasn’t a blindside because a blindside assumes that there is something there for us to see just outside our view.
Up until The Fuckening the twins showed no signs of damage and no signs of anything out of the ordinary (you know, considering the show is about vampires). In fact they were the exact opposite. They were happy they were grateful and they actively showed interest and care for Alucard. Then episode 9 switched the entire script on the viewer, who up until this point has 0 inkling of anything, and opens up the episode with the most awkward and borderline creepy and rapey scene that when you know the full context makes sense. But because were we given none it makes 0 sense. I knew the context. I knew what was going to happen.
Quite frankly I enjoyed Hector’s scenes more because the tone wasnt so forced. Hector’s scenes were equally as creepy and borderline rapey but we knew why. We knew the motives and we knew the end goal even without spoilers. The vampire lady who enslaved Hector used specific phrases, treating Hector like a pet even before he was one. If you wanna jump back farther in season 2 the brief intro to camila that we get is “bitten by vampire guy who was cruel and then she murdered his ass”. That alone tells us everything we need about her motives: Mistrust in men, wants power. The twins had no motive and no reasoning until they basically went “shit we need a reason for trying to stab a guy during sex”.
TLDR; Im salty about the twins and Alucard because it was lazy writing
#castlevania#honestly i also think that#dracula should not have died yet#and entire plotline was cut short#for idk why?#they literally pulled the castle out of thin air#they could have explored the characters much more#and dracula#i want to see him go through the stages of grief dammit
