not to start posting at 8am but at this point in the story what has actually been explicitly stated is that eddie literally thinks he is straight. he is being plagued by run of the mill heteronormativity. the assumption is that he dates women because he believes he is attracted to women and because he dates women and is also a widower he would end up with an average nuclear family at the end of the day. this is just like, what heteronormativity is and encourages by its own mechanics. it can be true that eddie just dates women because dating women is the norm that he follows even if he is gay. that he has to think of his child (and thinks of chris’s feelings to his own detriment) while doing this isn’t actually an indication that he is in hot pursuit of building a white picket fence family because if that were the case he probably would not be dragging his feet and panicking and specifically keeping his partners out of the role everyone claims he actually secretly wants them in. whatever the fanon, this man is not canonically being internally tortured by the need for a mother for chris. because he has literally sabotaged all two (2) attempts to make that happen (3 if you count his inability to let shannon back in completely) and turns away from the possibility of it happening at every opportunity and has never suggested he thinks of his single fatherhood as something that needs to be remedied. actually the fact that he does this shit is MORE of a textual indication that he is not attracted to women… like
