I love love love fandoms so much. You’re able to more easily see the chaotic nature that is fandom when 90% of the people interacting with it are your friends/mutuals and you can see their work. I 100% believe it when one of them says “I wrote a whole paper on [fandom related thing] just because I felt like it” or “I spent literal hours of my day researching mythology/folktales just to make sure the symbolism in my fanart/fanfic makes sense” or “I went into the metadata of these web pages to try and find new lore arhat I haven’t heard of yet and share it with all of you.”
It just. You’re able to see community and genuine human excitement that you dont get (or at least I haven’t seen) much outside of fandom spaces. It brings people with all sorts of skills and other interests and they’re all using those differing skills to build something for themselves and each other
#like you have ppl with computer skills looking through data or making mods or whatever#you get people who like stats making ‘how often are these words used’ posts#you get artists making art (whether it’s written or painted or sewn or embroidered or whatever)#you get people with experience using that experience and people without it using fandom to get that experience in a way that’s fun for them#you get people from all walks of life working together#you get ppl who interact with fandoms that are dominated by a language other than their native one#and meeting others in a similar situation but don’t share a native language#speaking of language! you get linguists discussing why translations chose specific wordings or terms#and if there is no translation in a certain language they’ll discuss what it *could* be#it’s just. ok yeah this is the height of humanity isn’t it#it’s like a mini anarcho commune and it’s beautiful
