Hiii✨✨ hope you're alright
I wanted to ask you sth which is probably stupid
So, I've got this fine merino wool jumper and I'd like to dye it another colour but I'm afraid I might destroy it bc the instructions on the dye I purchased say that I gotta throw it in the wash set to 90° which I know is a no-go when it comes to woollens
Perhaps you could recommend me a gentler dyeing method?
Thanks regardless
I have absolutely zero experience with acid dyes or other commercial dyes (I make my own natural dye, and using that is very different from using acid dyes) so I really can't help you there, as I have no idea what else would work with that particular dye. I'd recommend seeing if you can find other people talking about that kind of dye and how they use it.
That said, the label seriously tells you to put your wool in the washing machine ? That is a strange idea. If there's an alternative method where you cook it on the stove, that would be much safer--I cook my wool on the stove all the time and it does not felt. The key is to mimize agitation from boiling--just keep it to steaming or a very low simmer. I'm not sure what actual temperature that is, but if water boils at 100C then your 90C instructions are below boiling point, so I would be surprised if it didn't work.
#wool washing#i would not put your sweater in the wash for the obvious reasons but cooking it on the stove is pretty safe#you could also try washing a wool object on the stove that you dont care about as much first#if that would make you more confident
