ive been watching
Bungo Stray Dogs: historic authors given supperpowers bassed on their most famous works in a high stakes mafia vs detective vs criminal underground setting. Follow atsushi as he finds himself out of the frying pan of an abusive orphanage into the fire of being smack dab in the middle of this crazy world. High drama high action high mystery type beat
Shadowverse Flame: the sequal of Shadowverse, and an anime adaptation of a cardgame. Your normal yugioh type beat, watch any saturday morning cartoon ever and you'll know how it gose. Charming characters in high adrenaline card games. Follow Light as he enrolls in a school built around the game shadowverse, meeting new friends and trying to discover his destiney.
Raven of the inner palace: chinese court drama meets supernatrual mysetry thriller all wrapped up in the most amazing opening ive ever had the blessing to listen to. Its your normal historic fantasy type beat with plenty of mystery and intrigue to go around. I cant even sumarize this one well man just go watch it, if you like court dramas im sure you'll find some enjoyment here.
Touken ranbu Katsugeki: historic and legendary japanese blades given human form to prevent the evil Time Retrograde Army from going back in time and changeing history, all while grappling with their own historic pasts. One of two anime adaptations of the browser game, high drama and blood pumping action scenes make up for some poor character wrighting (they arent very compliant with the orginal game's characterizations)
Violet evergarden: now i havent watched this personally yet, but my dear friend has and assures me we must watch it together with tissues. Following a military veteran trying to find her place in the world when shes no longer on the front lines, she starts working as a scribe of letters for people. Bring a comfort item to this heart wrentching tail about grief and trauma wrapped up in some of the most beatiful mechanics animation Ive seen this side of cowboy bebop
Madoka Magica: a highschool setting anime yes, but also one of The psychological horror anime to watch. The origin of the inverted magical girl trope, follow the sweet Madoka as she gets the once in a life time offer to get any wish granted, at the price of becomeing a magical girl and fighting deadly Witches to keep her city safe. Any more and ill spoil it, if youre a horror junky or just love creative visuals I cant sing this anime's praises enough.
ive also got to second that recomendation for Girls Und Panzer, its cute girls doing cute things in big tanks. If you have an eye for historical tanks or love crazzy off the walls tank physics this anime will be a delicious treat
Society as a whole has yet to question why anime are so hyper focused on sexualizing high school children

Anime...where to begin?
Anime is a vast, unique and overwhelming form of animation to tackle. It has many genres, even a few that are unique to anime itself. So that’s why I have made this post, as well as a few others focusing on specific genres, to help those who are interested in watching but don’t know where to start. Here I will list five from those various genres/ categories to begin with.
1. Monthly Girls Nozaki-kun: (Edit) subbed and dubbed with 12 episodes
This is a romantic comedy that can be a great introduction to the tropes commonly found in the genre of Manga called Shojo (commonly romance geared towards girls) It simultaneously makes fun of the genre while maintaining its presence within it at the same time. It is my favorite comedy and while the anime has yet to get a second season, I highly encourage you to read it, it only gets better and the author/ artist has a great sense of humor.
2. Fullmetal Alchemist Brotherhood: Subbed and Dubbed with 64 episodes
This is a military styled anime with a power system that is both scientific and magical. It focuses on two brothers journeys in searching for a way to restore their bodies after a botched experiment to bring their mother back from the dead, and discovering a plot heavily tied to their family and friends along the way. It does have blood and a small amount of gore, and tackles a lot of morality issues. It is both heavy and lighthearted. One of my all time favorites.
3. Lucky Star: Subbed and Dubbed with 24 episodes
This is a slice of life anime that focuses on four high school girls who have a vast array of personalities and interests. Its cute and funny. It could be a good start because it can give you a look at Japanese culture, especially the anime and gaming interests in the early 2000′s. I grew up watching this one, so it will always have a special place in my heart, and its a great blast to the past. It also references many other anime’s and games.
4. Violet Evergarden: Subbed and Dubbed with 13 episodes
Now this one is great is you want something that is completely focused on characters self discovery. This is set in a post war world, the main character is a young female vet who desires to understand what love, as well as other emotions, is. The art is phenomenal and the story is great at exploring the many forms love takes. Warning though, it does have moments of violence's and will make you cry.
5. The Rising of The Shield Hero: Subbed and Dubbed with 25 episodes with a second season on the way
This one comes from the unique genre called Isekai. This is when the protagonist is transported from our world to another more magical one (The most popular genre right now). This one is different as the protagonist is an underdog instead of OP, and fights to find his way in a world where he is not wanted, yet cant return to his own. The beginning has you frustrated alongside him, and his journey to victory is a satisfying one. My husband picked this one as a starter Anime for our friend, and she loves it. Warning there is blood and rage inducing injustice.
I will make other posts that include more anime but will be genre specific. These five I felt showcases anime’s wide variety in storytelling and art. Feel free to send me any asks if you have any questions about this list or other anime.
Please keep it civil, I watch both dubbed and subbed and I just want to share something that has been a part of my life since the 5th grade and is amazing. I welcome all new watchers and fans to the fandom, casual and fanatic alike.
@tomb-bloom-noctem I welcome you to my dark well of anime lol.
Thank you @bentheechidna for letting me know that Nozaki-kun was finally dubbed!
