Skeletons as fire hazards.#As Chair of the Department of Biological Sciences at Arkansas State University#I took the initiative to demonstrate the beauty of combining art with biology. For example#we mounted the skeleton of a manatee at the base of the main stairwell in front of a wall painted as a diorama by one of our art students#Amber Heard (no relation to the actress). Unfortunately#according to my colleague John Pratte#the skeleton was taken away after I left that institution because it represented “a fire hazard” and an earthquake hazard#even though it was bolted to the ceiling with still chains and anchors.
