wip whenever
thanks for the tag @galadrieljones! Thought I'd share a snippet from the infamous greece chapter of my original stuff that I've been working on. and when i say infamous I mean it's infamous to me and no one else.
Two weeks later they were in Athens.
Rowan had never been away before. He was possessed with the need to see all, do all, and during the production of Oedipus at the remnants of the ancient theatre Charlie insisted they go to, he thought of possibilities he never experienced but were now impossible. Surely there was a life where his mother took him everywhere she promised to take him when he was a boy. There had to be another where he knew the language the actors on the stage spoke-sung as well as he knew Shakespearean, because in that life he knew his father.
The truth was Rowan wasn’t smart enough to appreciate this peek into his chosen art’s beginnings, the fact he didn't speak the language unimportant. So his mind drifted, thoughts without purpose but to only exist. He wanted to see the sea. He wanted to sail.
Eventually however, he became aware of the firm point of Ophelie’s finger jamming into his arm.
“If you’re not going to say it i will,” she whispered before what he hoped was Oedipus leaving the stage to gouge his eyes out.
“Say what? Can you understand this?”
“Of course not. It’s all Greek to me.”
this is the funniest thing I have ever wrote please tell me you get it
I also did this not too long who and tagged some of y’all so feel free to ignore, but tagging @wintersongstress @verai-marcel @myreia and anyone else!

Slot canyons are so cool and southern Utah has some of the best in the world! The ones in southern Utah are these gorgeous red rock canyons and as you walk into the space between the two canyon walls you look up and see this sliver of sky above you framed by this beautiful red sandstone! It’s absolutely breathtaking! And I’ve actually never seen real lava either, we were just near a dormant volcano, so there’s a ton of black lava rock everywhere (which is really lovely next to the red rock) and there was a little cave we got to go in that’s called a lava tube or a lava flow where when the volcano erupted it flowed underground! And I love hiking so much! It’s really tiring but when you get to the end and there’s something like an amazing overlook or waterfall or something it all feels worth it as well as even though you feel exhausted it’s the good kind where you know you’re tired because you were doing something good for your body. And don’t worry, I took so many pictures. (And I promise I’m not like some kind of super physically fit person who works out, I just grew up going camping and doing a ton of hikes with my family around where we live so I love being outside when I can) (there’s this one campground we go to every year where you’re so far away from any city that you can see the milkyway and you’re surrounded by these giant yellow pine trees whose bark looks like puzzle pieces and gives of the heady scent of vanilla and you’re lulled to sleep by the river that runs through camp)
Aww thanks 😊 I felt super upset after my presentation but it was actually a really good experience and I got a lot of good positive and negative feedback and I feel like the whole conference helped me improve and I got to get such great advice from professionals in my field as well as advice and support from all my professors and the grad students I went with so I feel like overall it was a really positive experience and hopefully next year since I’ll know what to expect I won’t get so freaked out in front of the judges.
Lighting design is so much fun and honestly people don’t seem to realize how much lighting can add or detract from a show. And thanks for the compliment! I try to work hard to do the things I do well and there are so many talented and amazing people working hard in so many different job fields that it makes me want to contribute something.
Seriously!?!? You come from Greece?!?!?!? That coincidence is amazing! And I totally agree, every country has its goods and bads, there are many, many faults with the USA but there are also some pretty amazing things here too. My dad spent the two years he lived in Greece in the area in and around Athens and Thessaloniki. And he and my mom actually went back there last summer for two weeks (I was put in charge of my three younger sisters) and went to Athens, along to Corinth and also to Santorini (the architecture of that island kills me it’s so beautiful and I’m going to be taking a historic architecture class next spring which I’m hoping will mention it). They took so many pictures all of which are gorgeous! They brought me back a little caryatid replica which I keep on my nightstand! (I fell in love with the porch of maidens on the erechtheion when I did a report on Greece in middle school) I’m super rambling right now, but I honestly love Ancient Greek history so much, especially the mythology and architecture and I’ve had to take a ton of theatre history classes and Ancient Greece is super important in theatre as its theatrical practices are the foundation for what evolved into modern day theatre! But you probably know all about that stuff since it’s your history. And I know history isn’t the modern country but Greece just has such amazing history! But anyways, so since my dad lived there for a bit I’ve heard stories about it my whole life (he loves it there) and if you couldn’t tell, little me became obsessed with Greece and it’s still at the top of my list of wishful travel destinations. I also grew up with my dad making us Greek food on special occasions and it’s my absolute favorite food (though I’m sure it’s even more amazing in the actual country cooked by natives) I love Gyros and my family makes really good tzatziki sauce. I also absolutely love the cheesy goodness that is tiropitas and made them for my theatre history class! My family always goes to the Greek festival in Salt Lake City and also tries out every Greek restaurant we come across where my dad instantly makes friends with the owner and asks them if they’re actually from Greece and stuff. There’s also a fantastic Chinese restaurant in my hometown whose owner is from Greece and my dad is close friends with him and has a conversation in Greek every time they see each other. (Haha sorry, I’ll stop my embarrassing rambling about your country now and I hope I didn’t say anything offensive)
Wow, that’s so cool that Greece has students learn so many languages starting so young! I wish we did that more in the US but few school have programs even a little similar like that. Two of my little sisters did/are doing a French Immersion program in elementary school where essentially half their day is taught in English and half of it is taught in French (sadly they didn’t do programs like that when I was a kid) There’s a couple other language immersion programs in the state (one of my cousins is doing a Mandarin one) but it’s definitely not nearly as wide spread as it should be. I think it’s super important to learn other languages to improve communication and relations with everyone. The only way people in the US really learn another language is if their parents are from another country or through a language class in high school (though most honestly don’t teach it well enough for the kids to become fluent). My high school taught Spanish, French, and ASL. I took one year of ASL in high school and I really liked it but had a really hard time with the grammar rules and understanding others signing. I now know only a couple of conversational signs along with being able to finger spell, but anyone who tries to sign to me has to do it very slowly because I have a hard time processing it.
Honestly children’s capacity to learn is astounding, especially the way they learn how to do things just by doing ordinary every day stuff like using scissors! It’s crazy that people don’t see stimulating children’s minds at an early age to be important and they’re definitely all idiots.
Dang, that sucks for those students that don’t get the experience before going out into the field. It’s definitely possible to learn on the job, but a lot more stressful, and it’s understandable that employers want to hire people that actually have a bit of experience, especially when it comes to handling so many small children at once.
Yup! So many cousins! My parents are both the fourth child out of six. Luckily we don’t get both sides of my family together all at once otherwise that would be pure chaos. And I have a handful of cousins on each side of the family that are older than me so it’s not like they’re all little kids, but those cousins often just talk with the other adults and I go play with the kids, sometimes playing with them and a lot of the time keeping them from doing dumb stuff. And you’re so right! If I hadn’t won that arm wrestle I never would have lived it down, that’s what motivated me to do that last final push to victory! Also we just had another family dinner today and one of my 15 year old cousins and one of my 13 year old cousins are taller than me!!! Which is saying a lot because I’m 6ft tall! (Very tall for a girl, but short compared to my relatives)
Don’t worry about writing an essay because I wrote one as well! And I totally understand! Take your time replying! School is way more important! And I’ll also be busier now that I’m back from vacation and I’ll be starting my summer theatre job on Friday! (Right now I’m working at a warehouse scanning papers) I’ll look forward to your reply! And good luck with your assignment! I’m sure you’ll do great!!!!

Here’s the new update!
Also, I’m starting to figure out the next fairy tale I’ll do so let me know if you have any you’d like to see! I’m also planning on a fun Christmas/winter fairy tale to release in December (I know it’s a long time away, but I’m gonna start writing it now so there won’t be any delays with releasing it) Whoever guesses which story I’m doing gets 5 points!
