it is so evident that janet had moriel planned when acomaf was published before retconning it in acowar with quite possibly one of the worst coming-outs ever written. it’s no mistake that elain and lucien are revealed to be mates in acomaf as well. at that point endgame couples were very clearly feysand, elucien, nessian, and moriel. she retcons moriel in acowar with mor coming out and she toys with elain and az, but at the same time nukes her relationship with graysen. it’s no mistake that as she gears up to tell nessian’s story in acofas we meet emerie, who then returns in acosf, where we officially meet gwyn. emerie knows mor and blushes at her name, which is basically peak romance buildup for queer characters by sjm. gwyn and azriel banter, we get “you’re the new ribbon az,” his bc ends with her, sjm hints at a deleted 3-way between nesta, cassian, and azriel (woah. would she write this if she was really planning that he would end up with nesta’s younger sister? the one she’s gone nuclear protecting before?). by acosf she’s made it clear what endgames are replacing moriel since retconning (she just needed time to introduce new characters): emorie (emerie/morrigan) and gwynriel. our final endgame line up for acotar: feysand, nessian, elucien, emorie, and gwynriel
#i have been reading sjm since before QoS came out. i was like 12#i remember acotar’s release and i remember acomaf’s release. i was there for acowar’s release#pro elucien#pro gwynriel#she’s always been very intentional in her pairings and when she introduces characters when a pairing doesn’t work out.#looking at you chaolaena and doraelin. ofc she killed sorscha#before introducing dorian and manon and we all suffered greatly but#we got chaol and yrene. one of the best sjm couples of all time#and we got elide and lorcan and lysandra and aedion so like. we won#nesryn and sartaq too.#omg i forgot she and chaol had a thing briefly (obviously not endgame)#miss sjm you were at WORK in tog#can’t wait to see it here in acotar
