I'm going to expand on Morthy's insecurities

I'm going to give that old man the biggest depression in history.

Well, he has trust issues and that makes him distrust others.

But...

What if it also made him distrust himself?

Gadreel has possessed him before and knows how difficult it is to realize if you have him inside your head.

So he is always afraid that he may not act of his own will, but Gadreel's.

Sometimes he will spend too much time looking in the mirror, checking that his eyes are his and not the demon's.

Every time he goes to pick up any slightly dangerous object, his hands shake because he doesn't know if he will lose control.

And above all

He hates falling asleep because he is more vulnerable that way.
