But it wasn’t like eating a full on feast. The two of you talked about each other’s day, snacking on the things he brought, mostly eating his fruit cut into cubes

“What made you think of doing this?” You asked as he sat up, the space between your faces slimming

Whilst he didn’t like to pay too much attention to you, Kihyun would almost certainly at least glance at you every now and then when the two of you were in the same room but not stood side by side with one another.

Sometimes the two of you could bicker all day long if you were left to your own devices, other days the two of you wouldn’t bicker if it was the last thing that you could do in the world. It was no overstatement for you to describe Kihyun as a bit of a rock for you whenever you needed comforting. You’d usually find that it was almost time for the two of you to say goodbye by the time that you caught each other up on everything anyway to make any other plans.

The two of you had a habit of forgetting about other plans that you had because you’d pencilled stuff in with each other. Kihyun often missed rehearsals or meetings at work because he forgot about them, accidentally double booking himself, but choosing you every single time and not thinking about work.

Most of your inside jokes were because one of you had ended up saying the wrong thing and confusing your words, leaving the other in stitches. There was only ever one instance when Kihyun would get jealous of the fact that you had other friends, and that would be when he was away from home and on the road. You’d worked alongside enough companies, alongside enough idols, to be well acquainted with the general idea of the dating ban. As far as you were concerned, it prevented any unwanted situations. They were constantly under scrutiny and you were quite content working from behind the scenes. 

Starship Entertainment had recruited you to join their writing programme and it had just so happened that Monsta X were in the process of producing material for their upcoming comeback

That had been almost an entire year ago, the comeback had been and gone, and you’d stuck around to start on the next album

In that time, you’d grown close to the group, spending hours at a time cooped-up in the studio, sometimes passing what little free time you had together, getting food, occasionally shopping

It hadn’t been intentional, but you’d naturally gravitated toward Kihyun, who was generous, and hard-working, and attractive. There was little denying the fact that he was easy on the eye, but he was an idol, and the three-whip bylaw never strayed far from your mind - he was off-limits. 

It didn’t seem that he was deterred, however, and you wondered whether he was simply affectionate with every one of his friends - leaning a little too close for comfort when you sat at the mixing-desk, placing a firm hand on your waist whenever he needed to brush-by, allowing barely an inch between your bodies when you queued for coffee
