Honestly the one benefited the most from when sung jin woo used the cup of reincarnation wasn't jin woo. It was yoo jin ho. The more fights jin woo got in, the more overtime it got jinho.
First appearance. The state jinwoo left
him in😭

He made sure he put jinho TO WORK

Mini review of Solo Leveling now that I finished the Manhwa!
Tumblr media
Unlike a lot of series where the main storyline is the focus of the main character getting stronger over time. I loved how the series depicted Sung Jinwoo at the start, weak but with a lot of focus on getting stronger to so he can help his sister and his mother who had been in a coma for a long time.
I really love the first parts of this series due to this. It depicts his struggles as well as showing the care he has for those he loves being his focus than for some power hungry need to get stronger or just for 'fun'. I also like the sequences leading up to where he gets stronger.
It initially gave me a similar feeling to the way Ryo made Akira into Devilman and while he did get stronger and change, it was a change into someone who wasn't like who he used to be. For better or worse, the series from then on felt like this and it was enjoyable.
In retrospect, I wish Sung Jinwoo's appearance change was more gradual to depict his change from who he used to be. The series had him change a bit too suddenly for my liking, then the later parts felt a bit more repetitive as nothing had changed nor any negative consequences for him.
Another issue I had is the way the series doesn't put much focus on the side characters so much so it's hard to feel attached to any of the dynamics in the series. I loved Yoo Jinho and Cha Hae-in when they appeared and was excited to see how they'd develop alongside Sung Jinwoo.
However, the side cast barely show, and the later dynamics such as Sung Jinwoo and Cha Hae-in's romance feel unearned due to this. The ending especially felt a bit generic and bland, as instead of exploring Sung Jinwoo's isolation due to his new role as a Shadow Monarch, it just ends.
Sung Jinwoo has a child who is born with his abilities and any isolation or trauma about his situation just, aren't gone into and now he has someone else like him. I feel the series has an issue with not exploring any of the setting or characterisation and just wants to be cool.
To be fair, it is cool and the battles and way's Sung Jinwoo gets stronger is fun to watch but I got attached to the initial hook of the series or plot points that were interesting and nothing ever got proper lead up in a satisfying way so it felt like a letdown for me.
This is more of a personal thing, but I miss Sung Jinwoo's initial design of someone who is normal and cute into a general hot, handsome guy that everyone fawns over with no exploration into his feelings of the change due to this. He comments on it once and that's it, only his family know anything.
Overall it's a fun series. I just lost a lot of interest as it went on. I am still excited about the anime, as it did add a lot of scenes that sold me on the series more than the Manhwa did. I'd also recommend it if you like series for the battles only. It excels in this department.

Jinah: oppa, why do you look like that?
Jinwoo, laying face-first on the floor: Like what?
Jinah: Like you’re dead.
Jinwoo: It’s because I’m dying. Leave me here to perish.
Jinho: that’s because hyung-nim accidentally called noona “babe” in front of everyone today.
Jinwoo: *sobs into the floor*
Jinah, cackling in the background:
Haneul, kneeling next to Jinwoo and petting his head: there, there

Solo Leveling Merch!
My sister just returned from her courses in another province and looked at what she gave me. Sadly, she didn't get our dear Shadow Monarch, Sung Jin Woo.
