Delicious Party Precure Episode 34 Review - Baseball And Oden
I can’t believe a Yui focused episode ACTUALLY focuses on Yui for once! I feel like the ones that focus on her always has her in the backseat to get the character of the day in the spotlight like in Episode 31 where it’s mainly Princess Maira having focus while Yui is in the backseat. Man, I wish there was more actual Yui-focused episodes showcasing how she felt when Yone passed away and how she moved on from it. It’s obvious that Yone played a huge part in her life yet we don’t really see Yui’s inner feelings about it other than nostalgia.
Tumblr media
We do get more lore about the elusive yet always present Yone in that she had an old friend named Matasaburo who she taught her oden recipe to. Matasaburo is actually a very important character for the plot as he tells Rosemary that he knows of Ginger, his old master. This shocks him because he never knew Ginger came to Oishina Town. All we know about him is that he wore a cat-like outfit. It’s stated that he passed away…but what if he’s Godatz? Hm…. Not only that, it seems that Takumi’s mother An is aware of Ginger, given her expression. Back in Episode 13, Takumi's flashback with his father Monpei revealed that An knows about CooKingdom.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
The episode suddenly gets a baseball sequence in the middle. I do wonder why Precure wants to make baseball episodes. The successor show Hirogaru Sky Precure also had an entire episode dedicated to baseball. Heck, they should make a baseball-themed Precure show if they love baseball that much! Oh, a sports-themed Precure show would be so cool!
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Also, Takumi makes an appearance after being absent for two episodes and Black Pepper being MIA for a few. For a 15-year-old kid, Takumi sure is wise for his age. He gives advice to Matasaburo regarding his issues with Kosuke. Though, he does still get flustered when someone brings up his relationship with Yui as typical of a teenage boy in love. As Black Pepper, he does shield Precious from attacks, but Precious mainly resolves everything through brute force and emotions.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I honestly want to learn more about Yone now that this episode talked about her a lot. I wonder what sort of other secrets and anecdotes Yone has. Maybe she was once a Precure? That would be cool! What are your thoughts on this episode?

Takumi woke up for the day, he was struck by dread. The birds didn’t sing outside, the frost lingered, and the skies were grey. The whole town, it seemed, knew exactly what made this Sunday so out of the ordinary and so utterly tragic.
Time all but stood still in remembrance to a certain woman whose reputation was known far and wide in this town. Today marked exactly one year since the passing of Nagomi Yone.
In the kitchen, Takumi stood like a zombie. He wasn’t hungry, he just wanted to pay his morning dues. In a similar fugue state, his Mother gave him an apologetic look. She knew, too, and had already made plans and arrangements to give Akiho and Hikaru the day off. That meant he was tasked with occupying Yui.
His stomach clenched at the thought of his best friend. Poor Yui. She had been closer than anyone to her grandmother, absorbing all her wisdom and clinging onto her dress the way only a granddaughter could.
It wasn’t the same but he could relate to the gaping hole left by a precious person’s absence. Just look at his Father, even on a day like this, he was still far away and on that boat in a different part of the world. It was tough. But at least for Takumi, who still had all four of his grandparents, it was temporary.
Takumi got changed and it was eleven by the time he went next door. With the diner closed, the front of the house was eerily quiet. The lights were off and the gloomy weather hung like a ghost. He came around the side and into the main part of the house. Where it was a home. Or should have been. It was so cold today. Felt lifeless and lonely yet when Takumi saw Yui, he was relieved.
There she was. In the kitchen, humming a little tune to herself. She had her hair done up in a bun today. That was uncharacteristic but understandable on a day like today as it was just like her nan’s favourite hairstyle.
When she noticed him, she turned around with a bittersweet smile.
“Ah. Hey Takumi. Mum said you would be around soon.” Yui said, her voice cracking. “I-It’s nice that our parents are friends, they’ve gone to have lunch somewhere. Or, uh, maybe brunch since it’s not noon yet.” She laughed awkwardly.
Takumi came closer, leaned against the entryway to the kitchen, where tatami met tiling underfoot. He could smell something  crispy and somewhat sweet in the air when he poked his head in.
“How’re you holding up?” Takumi asked.
“Y-Yeah, fine.” Yui clearly lied. She was honest to a fault as she pawed at her eyes. They were shiny and rimmed red. “Um, I’ve had a, uh, cry or two already this morning but…”
“You're working out your feelings the way you know best.” Takumi said and he gestured to the workspace in the kitchen.
The mess that Yui made seemed reflective of her headspace. Nothing was neat and clean, there was flour and desiccated coconut sprinkled on the benchtop. Her wooden spoon perched precariously on the sink’s edge was still slathered in batter.
   Yui nodded.
   “Whatcha making?” Takumi asked.
“Army biscuits.” Yui replied. “You're just in time, they’re almost done.”
   “What’re army biscuits?” Takumi asked.
“They’re from Australia and given to folks who you aren’t going to see in a while. They don’t spoil easily so they’re good for long journeys.” Yui said, her pacing off-kilter.
She brushed herself down, skirt flapping, and started to walk into the den, so Takumi joined her. They sat down together. It was obvious that Yui was feeling fragile but at the same time, talkative so it was better to continue cross-legged versus standing up.
“D-Did you know?” Yui asked. “My Grandmother, she did some travelling in her youth. Including Australia which is where she learned this recipe. It's made with coconut, oats, and golden syrup. They’re hard and crunchy but so yummy.”
“I look forward to trying one then.” Takumi replied.
“They’ll be ready soon.” Yui said then got flustered. She had already said that. She fidgeted atop the table as she got upset with herself. Takumi reached out and stroked her hands, running his fingers over her knuckles.
“When you're ready.” Takumi told her again.
“Thanks.” Yui breathed a sigh of relief. “I-I thought they would be a good choice for today. Grandmother said these biscuits are baked around times of remembrance, so, um, I thought it was fitting.”
   “I see.” Takumi murmured.
Neither had anything to say to that so it turned into a mutual minute silence for Yone. It was a heavy silence which had Yui shuddering as she tried not to cry but she was boiling over like a kettle on the stove. Takumi was a non-judgemental presence but ever an awkward teenage boy, he didn’t know what to say.
Luckily, he didn’t have to say anything. Yui’s timer went off and she went flying to the kitchen in response. Anything to flee her feelings as she opened the oven, was blasted by the heat inside and drew out the cookies on the tray over the rack.
Takumi could smell them from here. They had a wholesome, hearty smell to them decadent with caramelised golden syrup. Yui impatiently plated them, singing her fingers by accident.
“They’re ready.” Yui said. “And be careful, they’re hot.”
Takumi nodded and let Yui place them in the middle of the low table but waited for her first. She got onto her knees and took a deep breath, then spoke.
“Thank you for this recipe, Grandmother.” she said.
   “Thank you.” Takumi echoed.
Yui reached for the top biscuit piled upon the plate. She breathed, shuddering, and they were still too hot to handle and that made her tear up, or maybe she was already tearing up because of her grandmother then ate, with gusto, and let her tears stream down her face.

Just watched episode 43 of Delicious Party Pretty Cure, in which Godatz sets his plan into motion.
Picking up after the last episode left off, the Cures, Takumi’s parents and Kokone’s mother check in on Takumi, Kome-Kome and Secretor, who are still recovering from the latest events. Yui blames herself for what happened to Takumi and Kome-Kome since she wanted to try to reason with Godatz.
Meanwhile, Godatz sets his plans into motion, activating the Recipe-Bon, which starts absorbing every Recipeppi. In the CooKingdom, the king, queen and Cerfuil see Recipeppis being captured throught he windows of the castle as Spiritor is taking them to the dungeons.
Rosemary thinks they might be able to use the combined power of his Delicious Stone and the one Secretor had to reach Godatz’s hideout. Secretor warns him that her’s isn’t as strong as the real thing, though. Secretor continues to insist she must be perfect. Rosemary tells her that it’s okay to have high ambitions, but she shouldn’t let it go so far that it prevents her from being happy. As he tells her to think over her actions, Yui suddenly runs off. The others go after her while Kokone’s mother goes to check on Secretor, with Secretor being stunned to see Kokone’s mother, who she recognizes as the famous food taster.
Yui breaks down over how her actions indirectly led to Takumi and Kome-Kome getting hurt. Rosemary and the other Cures try to comfort her, preparing some food to cheer her up. However, while they’re eating, their Heart Cure Watches suddenly give off an alarm, as all the food in the world begins to disappear. Godatz notes that all the food will now be his, and he’ll prove Ginger wrong and show that he’s more than capable of using the power of the Delicious Stones. Godatz opens a portal, bringing his hideout to Oishina Town. From there, he begins making his annoucement to the world and the CooKingdom that he has taken all the food, and that he will only share it if people obey him. He also sends the robots to terrorise the people if they don’t obey.
Even the Cures are affected by the Recipe-Bon, forgetting what their favorite dishes are. Rosemary, Kokone, Ran and Amane decide to head out to take back the Recipe-Bon as soon as possible, telling Yui to wait for them since she can’t transform while Kome-Kome is still recovering. The other three Cures transform, and give Yui a hug and some encouraging words before they head off with Rosemary. The four of them quickly arrive at Godatz’s place, and the fight begins. Rosemary manages to seal the power of Godatz’ Delicious Stone, at the cost of limiting his own power as well. Godatz is unfazed, noting he can still finish them off, but they refuse to stay down.
Meanwhile, Yui comes across Takumi while heading home. Takumi reveals his Delicious Stone took most of the impact from Godatz’s attack, breaking it. Yui apologizes, but he tells her not to worry about it. Her actions made him recall something Yone once said. At the same time, Kokone’s mother is talking with Secretor, who is surprised to learn that Kokone’s mother isn’t that great at cooking either. Secretor then changes the subject, asking why she’s helping a stranger like her. Hatsuko admits she was unsure at first, but Kokone insisted they help her, and Hatsuko trusts her daughter’s judgement. Hatsuko and Takumi give Secretor and Yui the same advice, which they first heard from Yone. Yui and Takumi are then spotted by some of Godatz’s drones, and hurry into the Nagomi Family Diner to hide.
Inside, Yui’s parents are freaking out because they don’t remember how to cook anything. They are relieved to see that Yui is okay, having heard a bit about things happening from Kokone’s parents. They reveal that Yone was the one who chose Yui’s name, because she wanted Yui to grow up to be a kind girl who could bring people together. They try to remember a dish, while the lucky cat in the kitchen begins to glow. Yui remembers rice balls, causing the cat statue to suddenly release a wave of Hoka-Hoka Hearts along with several rice balls and the memory of how to prepare them.
The release of energy also recharges Kome-Kome, waking her up and she goes to join Yui. Yui apologizes to her for making her use so much of her energy, but Kome-Kome doesn’t hold it against her. They share a rice ball, before Yui transforms and heads off to join the others, with Takumi cheering her on. Across Oishina Town, the lucky cat statues are creating food for the people to share.
Another good episode! I have to say, Godatz’s plan is actually pretty clever. Steal all the food in the world, and refuse to share it unless the people obey him. Luckily, it seems Ginger’s counter-plan payed off after all. I knew that the Hoka-Hoka Hearts accumulator would be hidden in the giant lucky cat statue, and it’s linked to the other lucky cat statues found throughout town? That’s pretty cool.
I guess it’s too bad Takumi won’t be able to join the final fight, unless he manages to get his Delicious Stone fixed in time. And I guess Rosemary’s contribution will be limited as well if he had to seal his own power to seal Godatz’s. Oh, well. Still looking forward to seeing how this final battle plays out. And it’s nice seeing Secretor meeting someone she admires and discovering even someone famous like Hatsuko isn’t perfect.
I’ll be looking forward to the next episode!

One of the many reason I enjoy watching Delicious Party♡Pretty Cure is the way they handle Yui’s grandmother, Yone. Her passing is never seen as a sore point in Yui, but rather is shown to be a precious and happy memory in which she uses to bring insight to a problem or bless us with some valuable words of wisdom. The other townsfolk never show pity to Yui or display sadness to Yone’s passing, but rather it’s always used as a happy reminder for what she bring to ‘Oishiina Town’, happiness, love and unity.
You don’t get that in a lot of children animated shows, but it’s just refreshing to see!

Just watched episode 38 of Delicious Party Pretty Cure, in which Rosemary and the Cures take a look into the past to try to solve the mystery of what Rosemary’s old master was trying to accomplish.
The episode begins with Rosemary and the girls meeting up, in order to use another one of Kome-Kome’s powers. This time, it’s a time travel ability that Kome-Kome can only use once in her lifetime, which they use to go back twenty years so they can try to figure out what Ginger was trying to do during his stay in Oishina Town. Amane wonders if they could prevent the theft of the Recipe Bon, but the Energy Fairies warn her that trying to make any major alterations to the past would make it so Kome-Kome can’t send them back to their own time when they’re done, and all they can do is try to gather information.
Making their way to the Nagomi residence, they run into the younger An, who tells them Ginger is out and asks if they want to wait for him with them, revealing they’re also preparing a farewell party for him since he’ll be leaving town soon. They are greeted by Yone, with Yui being at a loss for words on seeing her beloved grandmother again. The other girls notice that she seems nervous and cheer her up as they head inside.
While helping set up the party alongside the younger versions of people they know in the present, Ginger eventually shows up. After realizing Rosemary is there, he and the group head upstairs to talk and the group explain why they came back in time. Pam-Pam and Mem-Mem meet their past selves, while Yui gets to meet Kome-Kome the First. Ginger reveals that he too believes Cinnamon was innocent and that someone framed him, however, he doesn’t know who that someone would be. He admits he also fears something bad might happen in the future, but thanks to Yone’s words inspiring him, he’s decided to take action to try to prevent it.
During the party, Yui goes to help her grandmother make rice balls, giving the two some time to talk. Yone can tell Yui wants to tell her something, and Yui admits she’s just kind of overwhelmed because she’s so happy to see Yone again. While Yui doesn’t mention their relation, Yone gets the feeling that the two of them are somehow family. Yui tells Yone about how she appreciates her words of wisdom, with Yone explaining to Yui how she’s been trying to make sure her daughter has the strength to face even bad days with words of wisdom, and how by passing that wisdom onto the next generation, she’ll still be able to keep supporting the younger generation even when she’s gone. Yui is touched by her words.
Meanwhile, back in the present, Takumi and his mother are out shopping, when Takumi spots Secretor wandering around. When Secretor captures a rice ball Recipeppi, in the process causing An to forget what she was going to make for lunch, Takumi runs off to stop Secretor. When the Cures don’t arrive right away, Secretor realizes they must be out of town, since the SOS signal can only reach them within a certain distance. She summons a Gossori Ubauzo, with Black Pepper having to fight on his own.
Back in the past, Ginger reveals to the group what he’s been working on alongside the Energy Fairies. A device that will accumulate Hoka-Hoka hearts in Oishina Town. Rosemary warns him that they can’t possibly replicate the technology of the CooKingdom on Earth, but Ginger is determined to get it to work for the sake of the future. Kome-Kome the Second wakes up, having had to rest to regain her energy from the time travel, and upon awakening the group has to return to the present. The group say their good-byes, with Kome-Kome the First telling Yui she’s glad she got to meet her. Ginger also tells Rosemary to seek out Cinnamon, since he can probably fix Rosemary’s broken Delicious Stone. After the time travelers return to their own time, we see that Kome-Kome the First sacrificed herself to ensure that Ginger’s plan would work. Kome-Kome the Second was born shortly afterwards.
Returning to the present, the Cures arrive just as Black Pepper reaches his limit, and Rosemary brings the fight to the Delicious Field. The Cures transform and begin to fight, while Rosemary checks on Black Pepper. Black Pepper’s Delicious Stone heals his injuries, and Rosemary realizes it is indeed the stone that Cinnamon owned and that he and Black Pepper must be related. The Cures manage to defeat the Ubauzo, purify it and rescue the captured Recipeppi.
Reflecting on the events of the day, Yui tells them that she’s realized during this adventure that her grandmother has always been with her, with the narrator assuring Yui she’s indeed still watching over her from the afterlife.
Another good episode! I think it’s no big surprise that the narrator has been Yone this whole time. The ending of the episode was really sweet. Part of me is now wondering if her spirit will somehow show up to aid the Cures in one of their final battles, like maybe she’ll give Cure Precious some words of encouragement when all appears lost, giving her the strength she needs to get back up or something.
As for Ginger, he doesn’t seem evil from what we see of him, although we don’t know what happened to him after he set his plan in motion. If he is good, then I get the feeling that his actions may have backfired horribly, and that the Hoka-Hoka Heart accumulater’s presence might explain why Oishina Town in particular wound up being the target of the Bundoru Gang. Makes sense, doesn’t it?
Anyways, I’ll be looking forward to seeing what happens next!

waaaaaaaaagh i lost my biweekly liveblog of delicious party aaaaaaaaaaaaaah
For my own sanity I do not want to type it all out again, but I enjoyed both 29 and 30 a lot! I missed out on both because I had a lotta shit to do both days, but
Ep 29: The action and worldbuilding was neat, Cerfeuil's one off story was nice, I like seeing Secretoru be an active threat now, the CooKingdom drama is super interesting, the previous PreCure cameos/promotion for the 20th anniversary was exciting, Narshe lost his son in the divorce, what's not to enjoy~?
Ep 30: The couple who run the rival stand were super cute characters, the gang's yukatas were cute, Takumi was kinda there but it was nice seeing him after a couple weeks, Yone Nagomi is a certified gilf and my unfunny Souji Tendo grandmother references turned out to be based in reality, Ran's jidaigeki ad was unironically fantastic, the yakisoba competition was peak comedy and made me hungry, the forcible retconning of the Recipepi's food honestly creeped me out, and Rosemary... what an absolute Chad.
All in all fun episodes.
To make up for my foulest blunder, I promise I'll have better commentary than usual on Saturday maybe hopefully
idk there's a Prince and the Pauper plot next episode, so that should be fun
