I love the HC that Yona is Aro/Ace and she is 100% for Sidon being with Link cause she is very happy that if she is to be arranged in a marriage, it's one that's perfectly platonic, where Sidon too is happy.

And just Dorephan like... pestering about grandpups... and Yona like "Oh no... I am not pregnant... again... shucks. Damn. This is crazy. Shits crazy. Wow. Did not see that outcome. Insane."

hello!! i saw the tags on your pinned post abt how shoujo wasn't just romance and it got me curious bc i've read some nice shoujo but really dislike romance-heavy plots. are there any shoujos you like that don't have much or any romance in them? ty and i hope you have a good day! 💛

Oh, there are lots of mangas that are classified as shoujo and don't have romance!!

I am just now beginning my journey through shoujo as well, so I don't have a lot of recommendations for stuff I actually read, but the ones I did read or watch so far are:

Natsume Yuujinchou and basically anything else by its author, Yuki Midorikawa. Sometimes, her works do include romance, but the focus is almost always in the interpersonal relationships and the difficulties her characters go through in life. NatsuYuu is about an orphan boy who can see yokai, and for that reason he acts in "weird" ways and his foster families dislike him, so he keeps going from family to family. The story is about how he finds a good family who accepts and loves him, makes friends, and learns to make friends even with yokais.

There are currently 6 anime seasons out, and a 7th season is on its way, so you can either read the manga or watch the anime.

Akatsuki no Yona - i mean, this one does include romance, but i'll still put it on the list because as far as the anime went the focus is heavy on Yona's actual journey to gather the dragons of legend to be able to recover the kingdom that was stolen from her. It shows how Yona goes from a sheltered spoiled girl to a person befitting the title of dragon king.

My Next Life as a Villainess: All Routes Lead to Doom - this one is the og villainess isekai and it truly deserves the hype. It is about a girl who wakes up in the child body of the villainess of her favorite otome game. She remembers that the villainess' fate in the game was always either death or exile, so she tries her hardest to change her fate. This one is classified as a reverse harem, but the main character is pretty oblivious and worries more about farming and eating sweets and generally being the best girl ever than actually worrying about romance. Aro ace queen tbh. And her harem is just happy to be with her and be dragged along for her stupid adventures. Plus, the female members of her harem are taken seriously as well, Mary is a raging lesbian and it is not subtext. I mean, it is a shoujo, so of course the female characters would be important lol.

Usagi Drop - listen to me. You will absolutely not look for anything related to this manga. If you like the premise you can watch the anime. But, please, do not look for the manga. You will only be extremely disappointed by it. That being said, I recommend the anime. It is about a man who returns home for his grandfather's funeral and then finds out his grandfather had an illegitimate daughter who has now become an orphan. He ends up having to take care of her because the rest of the family considers her a shame to the family.

Now, for the stuff I havent seen yet, I'll just write some that are on my "plan to read" list and put their genres next to their names so you can check it out if you think the genre's sound interesting:

My Stepmother and Stepsisters aren't Wicked (comedy, historical, slice of life)

Ikoku Nikki (drama) (this one is the one i'm currently most interested on, i hear it's about a distant woman who's never had a good relationship with her sister and now has to take care of her teenage niece because her sister died)

Itsuwari no Freya (crossdressing, historical)

Limit (drama, psychological, school) (this one sounds incredible tbh, on a field trip their bus gets into an accident and only 5 girls remain, having to learn to survive and trying to assert themselves over one another because they hate each other.)

Mitarai-ke, Enjou suru (drama) (the main character wants to infiltrate the household of the family who blamed her mother for a fire, in order to prove her mother's innocence)

Okay, so I don’t watch Hazbin Hotel (if I wrote it wrong, sorry) but for like weeks, the only thing I see in the asexual tag is people complaining about allos shipping ace characters in a very allo way, and it’s been annoying me to no end, because while we do have to be upset about that, the ace tag should also function in a way for us to share jokes, have fun and enjoy our identity without having to fight for our right to exist.

1. Not sure if there was one specific moment for me, but I think just seeing their friendship develop over time to the point where Yuki is able to really open up to a friend for the first time is a really compelling journey for Yuki!

2. I think it's funny how Kakeru is able to just piss off Yuki with his antics lmao, but it's also kind of a big moment for Yuki where he isn't pretending to play this "prince" character, Kakeru is able to draw the real Yuki out.

3. Hmm I do probably ship Yuki with both Kakeru and Maki, I like both pairings in different ways

Hanajima/Uotani

1. Ahhh I don't think there's ever just a moment but these are the most obvious lesbians of all time ajaksldlvl. Love their opposite vibes but they way they both scare everyone around them and are #1 Toohru protectors is soooo funny and also iconic.

2. I suppose I answered it in the previous section lmao but I think there's such a pure love between them and the love that they share for Toohru they just look out for each other so well and their opposite vibes are so cool, especially because it's like no big deal at all to them.

1. This is like on the border because even though I'm usually a big multishipper, Yona/Hak are really It for me ya know. I also hc Suwon as aro/ace, but there is some real good potential with Suwon/Hak, and I'm sure this will come as a surprise (after saying it for 500th time ajslslf) but I'm a big angst enjoyer. I probably did ship this more than Yona/Hak at the beginning lmao, and then them reuniting and Hak still feels so hurt? Not just for Yona and her father bur also himself? Wowowowow yeah this ship is pretty good.

2. The angst potentiaaaaallll childhood best friends with maybe a little crush to enemies to !?!?@(#$)#)@*$*@! Goooood they're so messed up Hak is so hurt from everything but he also understands where Suwon is coming from and Suwon giving up that relationship with Hak in order to help the country?? Kikuhiko/Sukeroku

1. Everythinggggggg. From the start from the beginning they were IT. I don't even have like, a SUPER good memory since it's been so long since I've watched Rakugo, but god they really are the definition of soulmates (even if sukeroku doesn't realize it...)

2. I think just their journey together is so compelling, they complete each other and bring out their best but also their worst. Kikuhiko is too in his head at all times, Sukeroku is too impulsive, but the way that they balance each other personality wise and also in their rakugo is so enticing to watch, you can't look away from them. They walked so that other disaster gays could run lmao.

3. Yeah ok let's get into the ending lmao. I will always choose to interpret that Shinnosuke is the spiritual successor to Kikuhiko's and Sukeroku's rakugo not...blood related successor of Kikuhiko lmao. I think that fits the story and the themes and the characters waaaay better than Kikuhiko having Shinnosuke as his biological grandchild 💀 It's nature vs nurture in my eyes! He has the nature of Sukeroku because that's his biological grandfather, but Kikuhiko raised him, it's the nurture side! Why it was left open ended...hmm I think it's supposed to be a stylistic choice to reflect how one unravels a rakugo story? But yeah I refuse the other option for my own sanity lmao. Also also people always ignore/forget about Kikuhiko's struggles with gender expression and I'm sad about that :( so important to his character and his relationships throughout the story.

Dad: I call him Papi (Daddy in Spanish), he’s first-generation Puerto Rican (though he was born in the Bronx, New York). He’s fun-loving but also firm in his convictions. He struggled with anger issues for a while but is doing a lot better with it now. I was really scared/intimidated by him as a kid but we have a good relationship now. Possibly Slytherin or Ravenclaw.

Step-Mom: I call her by her name. She’s a LOT different than my mom. She’s second-generation Cuban and so her culture was completely new to me when she and my dad first started dating and I didn’t really know what to make of her. We have a better relationship now but for a while we just didn’t understand each other very well. She’s very loud and outgoing, which is like my exact opposite, ahaha. Very much Gryffindor.

Step-Siblings: my stepsister is about 7 months younger than me, and then my stepbrother is 5-ish years younger than me. They’re both very goofy and can make me laugh so hard. My stepsister is more of an introvert and my stepbrother is very much an extrovert, so I have more in common with my stepsister than my stepbrother, but me and my stepbrother get a long really really well despite that? He’s just a super chill guy and easygoing so it’s easy to talk with him. My stepsister and I don’t talk much but I enjoy spending time with her too, which mostly consists of her playing video games and me watching her play ahaha. Also!! She’s a lesbian, which I didn’t know until recently and I was super excited to find that out because I finally didn’t feel like the odd one out of my family for being the only LGBT+ person ;;; P sure she’s Slytherin and my stepbrother is Gryffindor.

Mom: My mom and I used to be really close and then not so close and now we’re starting to mend our relationship. She’s a very passionate person and so we can clash sometimes as for a long time I mistook that passion for rage and always thought she was angry at me when really she’s just super into everything she says. I’m working with her to work on her tone/how she presents herself to be less intimidating/angry-looking ahaha. Very chaotic good. Ravenclaw.

Middle sister: Very introverted, quiet, reserved, but extremely wise and introspective! She’s a poet and and writer and a huge history buff, so she tends to world-build better than she character-builds. XD She’s building a character to be in our first DnD campaign, though! A chaotic good half-orc paladin. She’s also chaotic good. XD Ravenclaw.

Youngest sister: An artist! The most Slytherin of Slytherins in our family. She’s going to SCAD in January, which is super impressive. She and I were never very close because our personalities clashed when we were younger (she likes to be contrary to provoke people ahaha), but we’re getting better at communicating now! She and my mom live together while my middle sister is at college, and I’ve been spending weekends over at their place so I can use their Wi-Fi, which is better than the WiFi in my room at the center where I work. So we’ve been hanging out more as a result and it’s helped our relationship a lot. P sure she’s aro/ace in some way but that’s not been confirmed. Very much the kid in the “What do you have there?” “A KNIFE!!” vine ahaha.

unpopular opinion: I quickly found out via Youtube that thinking there are a zillion other, better ways Soo Won could have saved the kingdom and that the fact he chose such a risky, horrible way is more down to his own issues and desire for revenge than any pure love for his country is MEGA unpopular but i maintain that. Soo-Won is smart. He could have figured out a better way if he wanted to. the kingdom was not about to die or whatever. so either there’s something going on behind the scenes we don’t know about or he did it cuz of more personal feelings.how’d you find it: Someone on my dash was a fan and recced it to me when the anime first came out.random thoughts: I’m so glad Kusanagi has realized there should be more girls in the story and has been throwing more powerful girls at us lately. I think this is a cute pairing! I definitely think they are the closest to each other out of everyone, they have really good heart to hearts and rely on each other in a unique way, especially in Season 3 is where they really shine.

I think both of them have such a genuine and silly friendship/dynamic that makes them appealing! I also think both can sometimes be a little emotionally closed off so it's nice to see them really open up to each other about hard topics and share their vulnerabilities.

Hmm I have no idea if this is a popular or unpopular headcanon or not but I kinda view Toph (aged up) as aromantic, where even in this dynamic she really appreciates Sokka! But she doesn't know where to draw the line between a friend and a partner.

Yona/Suwon

Don't Ship It

They're cousins 😭😭😭 Don't get me wrong, LOVE both characters and their dynamic, both are fascinating characters that hold a lot of love towards each other but also pain and guilt, but them being related puts a full stop towards this ship for me. Also even though I am usually a pretty big multishipper, Yona/Hak are just it for me and Suwon gives me aro/ace vibes as well

Not to keep hammering this point home, but not being related would certainly help 💀 And I know Yona has a crush on him at the beginning of the series, but she grows SO much as a person that I think her love for Suwon just fundamentally changes with that growth too? So even with not being related, I think the two of them have grown and matured in such a way where it isn't feasible to me.

Hmm the angst potential is so great for them, I think they are both such interesting characters that have such a troubled past that they have to navigate, but they also clearly love each other SO much, it wouldn't of hurt so bad if that love was any less. I think just every duo within the Hak/Yona/Suwon trio have such a unique relationship it's unlike anything else.

Gon/Killua

UGH they're cute throughout the entire series but the moment where Killua is just looking at Gon with such awe and says "Gon, you are light" wowwowwow that moment changed my life and made it go from cute childhood friends to like true soulmates.

Oh I just love how Killua becomes more human and kind and just gets to be a normal kid for the first time because Gon gives him the opportunity. And later when Killua takes everything he's learned to try and save Gon when he starts losing his humanity? They really do it all where you have the cute fluffy childhood friends side to just the angst filled devastation that happens at the end of the chimera ant/election arc.

Ohh I'm probably not involved enough to know truly what the hot take of Gon/Killua are, but it really annoys me when I see hxh fans say shipping them is weird? I promise you gay people can know that they're gay before the age of 18 lmaaaaoooo, I had my first gay crush at like the same age.
