Summary

Being a new student is hard. Being a new student whilst your socially awkward father avoids the school at all costs and your new teacher pines uselessly over a man he’s never met before is even worse.  But by god, Grogu is gonna get through this.

About the fic

This is the very first dinluke fic I read back in January even before watching the show itself. And I was sold on the ship right there and then. ;)

Chapter 1 is the original fic and tells the story of earnest preschool teacher Luke trying to have a conversation with an elusive parent of his latest student while being mercilessly vetted by all his friends. Large chunks of the story are told from Grogu POV which is adorably hilarious. Bonus chapter 2 is about a well earned first coffee date under the watchful eyes of Din and Luke’s nosy friends. Chapter 3 tells the story of Din’s first meeting with Grogu.

The face CGI varied wildly from “pretty damned good” like in scenes, to ones where I could swear they forgot to do it at all, and it’s just the stand in.

We already know that Luke made at least one mistake during his years of his nascent Jedi Academy. This may be his first.

He seems a bit too keen to find out who/what Grogu is - he just exposed the little guy to what were clearly traumatizing memories. All to see if he’s Yoda’s nephew or something.

I want to tell you about someone you remind of a great deal. His name was Yoda. He was small like you, but his heart was huge, and the Force was strong in him. He once said to me, “Size matters not”. That’s how he talked. He would speak in riddles.

That cliffhanger was fucking magnificent and heart-wrenching.

And seriously, this whole “no personal attachments” thing is clearly going to be the center of the third season of Mandalorian. Din explicitly saying that it’s the exact opposite of The Way has clearly got him wondering if Lil’ G is in the right place.

There’s a post somewhere on this hellsite of some magnificent off the cuff fanfic where it is “revealed” that the whole “no relationships” thing was a gag the other padawans played on Padawan Yoda, nobody ever corrected it, and since he outlived them all, he passed it on as fact.
