(We gave S'ria poor emotional reactions to the cold and severe winter weather is a trigger for him, I don't know how it took us this long to realize that he'd have seasonal depression.)
Ao3
It took far too long for S'ria to realize – he was pretty sure almost everyone figured out before he did.
In his defense, he'd had plenty of times to miss it. Limsa Lominsa had never had too extreme of a difference between seasons – it got pretty hot in the warm months, but not all too cold. The next winter (and another season besides) passed while he was in Ishgard, and he had been miserable the entire time he was living there regardless of time of year. He avoided normal winter weather for the following years too, with him traveling between different climates and continents that were experiencing different seasons.Â
But now, he was living in Revenant’s Toll and the seasons mattered so much. Each one was strongly felt, from pleasant Springs to sweltering Summers to brisk Falls to… Winter.Â
While some families had opted to return to Doma, many put down roots here instead, and so there were always a handful of children slightly underfoot. S'ria didn't mind them (and Menphina actively found them endearing). The first time that year it snowed, they were ecstatic about it, only to be rather crestfallen that it barely stuck on the ground.
The time after that, though, it built up a proper few ilms and they immediately rushed out to begin snowball fights. It took a lot of very stern lectures from their parents (and some Scions as well) to stop them from trying to use shields to sled down the hill by the lake – namely because there were too many things outside the walls that want to kill them. S'ria would have considered escorting them, if the hours of cold would not be so uncomfortable.
S'ria wanted to understand their excitement, but he just couldn't. He would have assumed it was just the difference between children and adults, but… well, several of the grown adults in the Scions seemed equally delighted. Some, mayhap, were looking forward to the holidays, but many were just very excited to see it snow.
S'ria thought it was just unpleasant, but it felt like an unkind response to others having fun. It was just… well, it was very cold, and it turned to wet slush, and if he crouched down histail went into the frigid muck, and the way sound was muffled got eerie, and his bones hurt. He could have continued, there were more complaints than that.
It was a relief that he had no imminent duties, because that let him take a bit of a break.
He spent part of that day helping in the kitchen for the warmth of the stove, and the rest relaxing with hot cups of tea. The next saw him spending a lot of time near the oven, trying not to get in anyone's way, but didn't quite have the energy to be more than a slight help. The day after that a full blizzard rolled through town and S'ria spends much of the day curled up in bed where it was warm.
It wasn't until nearly a week of acting like this that G'raha and Alphinaud both knocked on his door together, and it certainly felt like an intervention. It was this visit, bringing him food and some gentle “are you all right?”s that made him realize – oh, there was a thing happening here, wasn't there?
Knowing didn't make the problem disappear, but at least it made it make sense and that was something. In some ways it was more frustrating, to know that his well-being crashing was from so mundane a reason, but it was something. And knowing did allow some attempts at solutions, even as much as it could get a bit trying at times.
Tataru tried to help, offering herbal remedies that S'ria occasionally tried, when the taste wasn't off-putting. (No matter how many health benefits some of those bitter little leaves had, he wasn't going to manage to drink that.) Thancred was quicker than usual to good-naturedly compliment his work, which was… equal parts sweet and odd. The twins and G'raha pestered him the most of anyone, insisting he got outside to catch what limited daylight the days would afford him, and bringing him warm food and company on the days that he couldn't quite manage that.
G'raha, in particular, tended to drop by the most – somehow bringing an additional blanket almost every time. S'ria was almost afraid to ask where he was finding them, at this point, but the pillow heap was starting to look more like a nest. While his bed was still more comfortable, there were definitely a few nights where G'raha and him were so comfortably buried in blankets that they both just slept there for the night.
They assured him that, if nothing else, this series of storms was like to run its course soon. It was nice to hear, though S'ria was considering spending next winter exclusively in warmer climes.
#snow-system#ffxiv-oc#writings#s'ria 🌸❄️#burrito your S'ria 🌯#yknow i dont think we've ever really written about like#S'ria experiencing mundane symptoms of depression outside of msq breakdowns#part of that is probably bc he usually forces himself into functionality until burnout but yeah

okay from best to worst top three! klapollo krisnix wrightworth go!! with explanations duh - đź’ľ
oh guess what i just found in the bottom of my drafts. sorry floppy disk you asked me this in march and now its almost june. my bad pestie
anyway i would LOVE to. im gonna cut the post here because it ended up getting pretty damn long and i wanna save the mobile users some pain
[[[hey welcome back thanks for clicking a button]]]
a little preface first: i don't think any of them are the "worst". im a multiship freak and i think all three of these are best and worst in their own way. id love more info on what you MEAN by "best to worst" because that's so very vague. do you mean in terms of relationship dynamic? do you mean in terms of personal perception? do you mean how much i like them?? since i have no idea what exactly youre asking me here, im just gonna shove a whole bunch of headcanons in your face and hope for the best. xoxo follow me
3rd place - Wrightworth / Narumitsu
the iconic, original gangster, blah blah blah. forever cute. theyre just kind of a little bland to me. like i feel as tho we've explored basically everything there is to explore in wrightworth with the exception of the seven year gap? eh maybe thats a terrible take who knows. theyre still lovely tho i love the seemingly constant stream of gayass lawyers on my feed. everybody loves narumitsu!
2nd place - Klapollo
i really don't have much to say about klapollo either. theyre cute as hell and they definitely have a lot more to ponder on (considering that the only game we really get klavier in is AA4 [no DD doesnt count klavs ass got fucking Visited and he was written so poorly thats NOT my klavier gavin]). and generally speaking im an AA4 fiend its my favorite game in the entire series and so im biased. also, another pretty constant stream of gay lawyer content. shout out to hyundere who made like constant beautiful klapollo content until the One Piece happened lol [im a one piece enjoyer too dont come for me this is not criticism]
1st place - Krisnix
my GOD krisnix. theres a lot of things that go into me enjoying krisnix, but the biggest one is the fact that they have the fucking wackiest, least defined relationship in all of AA4. (also, another AA4 exclusive lol). with the 7yg in play, theres so much room to play around. and most of krisnix really exists in their questions and the vagueness of their relationship. theres like a billion things to ask. how does this relationship develop? how did they meet? what were they like for seven years? what led up to phoenix suspecting kristoph in, yknow, the Everything that happened in AA4? what kind of relationship did they even have? were they "friends" that just happened to pull each other into their gravity? were they holding hands and cuddling every night? were they practically strangers until one of them needed to "blow off steam"?
and not to mention these people are both private/secretive as HELL (phoenix is probably the cagiest man ive ever seen ever. and kristoph, aside from being a man with a fucking army of skeletons in his closet, gets an unfortunately small amount of screentime in the game and not a lot of time to get into the meat of his character/backstory [see: black psyche-locks]). that adds another layer. they certainly dont talk about each other. so how did... All Of This happen?
SO. MANY. QUESTIONS. and in general i like my ships a little more "toxic". and i mean. if you know ANYTHING about AA4, krisnix is pretty mutually toxic. i could totally make another post tearing into the inner guts of their dynamic and relationship-- hell, i could probably make FIVE.
moral of the story: krisnix forever. poggies.
anyway yeah i hope this uh. answered all your questions? how the hell do you end a tumblr post
#yeah i could totally write more on krisnix because i ponder them so damn often#i cant say the same for narumitsu and klapollo tho#which does kinda suck imo i know i should give more thought to them but they dont interest me in the same way#cute as hell tho#cenviswasteland#cenvisfloppydisk#ace attorney#aa4#apollo justice ace attorney#krisnix#klapollo#narumitsu#wrightworth#phoenix wright#miles edgeworth#kristoph gavin#klavier gavin#apollo justice

im running through some magic items we found in our campaign to figure out which i even want to put myself forward for
Mind Blade - I have written about this bitch already. I do kind of want it. No matter which of the two players take it, we won't be using one of its primary features, and Naielle can't really use it as an offensive weapon, OR even really use Plane Shift offensively bc it requires a melee spell attack, which, yikes. On the other hand, the 'no sleep for others' affects Naielle way less (she sleeps alone) and she could really use the AC, and the utility suits her vibe. this ones still up in the air but is probably the item id want most, and i know its only a small contest.
Tome of Clear Thought - already dibs'd and naielle isnt an int caster anyway
Ghost Step Tattoo - kinda neat! however naielle isn't really a mobile character around the battlefield and i dont think has literally ever been grappled. i dont think the manoeuvrability would be that useful for her as a backliner.
Enduring Spellbook - shes a pact of the tome warlock. no.
Censer of Controlling Air Elementals - eh? wouldn't be the worst, and its not an attunement item which is nice (since ive already used two slots), but like... eh? shrug. im sure theres a character who'd get more use and vibe better with it.
Cloak of Billowing - naielle already has a cool coat, she doesnt need a cloak. too messy.
Staff of Thunder and Lightning - cool! Wouldn't complain, certainly. that said, as a backliner thunderclap is unlikely to see a huge amount of use (its unlikely to hit more enemies than allies in that position), and while naielle is proficient with quarterstaffs and literally has one already, she IS a warlock. she has better options. she has eldritch blast for Gods Sake. also she kind of has a thing where if she gets struck by lightning she might literally explode so (blame a different, story-important magical item for that bad boy)
Ring of Mind Shielding - man. wouldn't that be great. in a campaign with mind flayers as the primary threat. anyway im pretty sure the Commodore was the one who wanted that and go for it man. not sure how he plans to use it since he. already has one. but its entirely possible he was planning to give it to an npc (which yknow what. fair. we've established how much she means to him.) if thats not his plan, whomst would even know. i wouldnt put myself forward for the ring anyway since even if hes not taking it, i think there are characters (the Rthnathea, Talia, hell even Marius depending on how you wanna read into it) who would be higher on the order imo. also also the ring DEFINITELY has someones soul in it already so we do have to deal with that and that means naielles NOT fucking taking it, she already has a dragon god in an orb AND a warlock patron she does not need a 3rd voice for the chorus.
so, well. unless we happen to steal more shiny artifacts when we go rob our literal fucking allies next session (in two weeks), currently the only one i actually want is the sword? since i think its utility fits her vibe. whether i get it might actually depend on whether the rogue (who is my primary "rival" for the sword, as it were) sees another item she would like more, at which point the sword becomes mine. im down for the sword.
#dnd stuff#for context we uh robbed a vault under a library and got a whole bunch of cool shit#the mind blade we got from a mindflayer ship the session before and have yet to assign to a player though we SUPER have to#bc if we just lock it in a box that leaves it open for someone less moral to take it.#cause currently the two characters up for taking it extremely will not use one of its features. keep that outta others hands ay
