Baby narumitsu aside, is there anything else you think the AA anime brought to the franchise? Or were the changes/ additions really that bad? (Havent played all the games yet😔)

Yeah, I’m afraid baby narumitsu (and baby ‘ziska!) really is the main thing, unfortunately. Those episodes really were the series at its best- they did add a lot of things I like for my own personal canon, like the gay keychains, Miles’ getting his first dog thanks to Phoenix (and more expansion on JUST HOW MUCH MILES LOVES DOGS, thank), The Signal Samurai, Phoenix and Maya posting ridiculous ads on Youtube and Miles being the first-possibly-only person to like them, Fran trying hard to make Miles Smile and looking after her sad brother at first, etc.

There’s also the GAY CHAINS OF FATE in the first op, never forget.

There were a couple small moments here and there I enjoyed and I’ve also enjoyed the fanart with Franziska’s sweet coat:

I think the anime did a good job in giving Maya a few extra cool things to do and showed some love for her, especially in the first two seasons (it kind of dropped off in this season, especially with some of her moments being cut) and I think the backstory ep showing off a little of Maya and Pearl’s childhood and their bond was pretty cute even if it wasn’t super spectacular- the idea of Maya sneaking Pearl out to see the ocean is super sweet, as is the idea it was Mia who introduced her to miso ramen. 

Also at the very last minute it showed us, understatedly, Miles REALLY NERVOUSLY initiating their traditional awkward gay handshake (a Narumitsu staple also seen in the live action movie) only to have Phoenix clasp his hand gently in both of his and hold it there for a minute, and I will also happily take that into my canon too. The next step will be Phoenix pulling the hand closer and up to chest level. He’s got it planned out in his head he knows it needs to be a slow escalation or Miles will overload, and he generally waits for Mies to initiate, he just ups the intimacy slightly each time. When they finally get to ‘hug’ Miles needs two hours to recover BUT IS VERY HAPPY.

But yeah, mostly the anime was a very paint-by-numbers adaptation that mostly condensed things or made them worse. It was cool to see some moments animated, even if it wasn’t stunningly so by any stretch, buuuut. The good original episodes aside, we definitely deserved better.

Tbh I don’t even know if it’s supported by the narrative, but whenever I see a cactus I’m like “oh that symbolizes a character who defends without thinking” like a leftover reflex from my days of bullshitting my way through undergrad

Hey! Since you were talking about Bad Yuri, I'd love to recommend Morishima Akiko to you! She's a mangaka who writes yuri for girls, gay people, and above all, gay girls. My favorite piece of hers is Happy Picture Diary! Good Yuri is rare but... a true blessing to find.

Hello! Is the blog being kept as an archive or can we still hope to see content? If the answer is the former, I wanted to take the opportunity to say now (since if I wait, it’s more likely this will never be seen) thanks for introducing me to the community! I no longer identify as ace but your blog helped me question my straightness and feel pride for my identity.

At the moment it’s more than likely that this is going to remain an archive, but I’m not going to rule out the possibility of me doing something with the blog in the future. As it stands right now I have a lot on my plate with university and transitioning and other stuff (like moderating discords) so I don’t really have the time to dedicate to the blog. Thanks to everyone who follows though for all the support and interaction and fun, it’s been great to have the experience of helping people out and feeling like an active part of the community. I might do something similar at some point with a different blog, or come back here but right now I wouldn’t expect any new content.

Is it valid to hate Jumin? But yeah I always thought how they wrote him in Jaehee's route was because we were seeing him through her eyes, in a way? He seems petulant because a lot of the time (esp in regards to Elizabeth) Jaehee views him as a nuisance. The chatrooms don't always reflect what's actually happening, which makes sense since MM is character-driven, and MC is supposed to see why she was to help Jaehee.

I can sort of see that? But the thing is, there’s no balance to it. As much as Jaehee complains about Jumin, she also usually makes a point of saying that she doesn’t dislike Jumin as a person and she even has a lot of respect for him. She’s said that she doesn’t even consider him a bad employer. He annoys her sometimes, sure, but everyone’s boss annoys them sometimes

So like, if Jumin seems particularly petulant because it’s from Jaehee’s perspective… well, okay, but where’s the other side of it? The side where she finds him respectable and intelligent and someone she’s learned a lot from? We don’t really see that until the very end and by then it’s too little too late

Yeah! We’ve actually noticed this/ been told about this! It’s just a funny coincidence IMO! I wouldn’t want to like, purposefully appropriate Japanese without actually understanding the context (especially behind an important word like love), but I still think it’s a cute that the name ended up that way.

mmmm i’ve repressed most of my childhood but one of the stories i do remember (and one of the dumbest) is from third grade when i went to catholic school

the whole school went to mass every other monday and one particular monday, my mom left for work before i went to school and i forgot to eat breakfast, and by the time we got to the church i was so ridiculously hungry i lied about being baptized in a catholic church so i could have one gross rice cracker and a plastic shot glass of grape juice
