Random lurker who loves J|F! And I was trying to do Pokédex work in the highlands and you know that hidden little alcove west of Fabled Spring? I had a weird idea that he could shelter there (not as cold, it’s hidden by a spring, so maybe Melli and Ingo wouldn’t bother him, and lots of roselia and we _know_ he can get along with them, his roserade is proof of that) and while I was thinking this, accidentally mounted ursaluna, and found Old Verse 18 “Offer only friendship to those around you. / Angering ??? in turn confounds you. / Sorrowing ??? will in woe drown you. / A land once riven, cannot become new. / Let only peace surround you.”

And then I immediately had to tell you, nerves be damned, because it just screams J|F Volo to me and I got excited. (I have screenshots.)

First of all, thanks so much!! I’m really happy you’re enjoying the fic!!! And also, YESSSSS that verse is so thematically appropriate for Volo, especially Volo in the midst of a redemption arc. Volo, in the past, very much failed to cultivate peace in his heart, and ended up doing the very things this verse warns against. Whether the “???” refers to Arceus, or to Palkia and Dialga, what Volo did angered them, and he paid the price. “A land once riven cannot become new” indeed. He can’t undo what he’s done, but, as an author dedicated to a happy ending, I don’t think that means that peace isn’t possible.

It’s all about the things we do to try to move forward from our mistakes. To make things as right as we can, even if we can never go back to the way things once were.

Also I really do love the fabled spring as a game area 🤣 it’s so pretty, and I love the concept of a gorgeous hidden area filled with fairies who will not hesitate to try to kill you for trespassing 🤣 that alpha Clefable, man. *shudders*

Naff Naff Naff…

Okay so I was babbling to a friend about ancient Egyptian religion and was thinking of Ammit and how she literally devours the hearts of those deemed impure/evil and I went “HEART EATER WAIT��� and ran over here. Sorry-but-not-sorry, the cryptid bois have taken the role of heart-eater in my brain and I got excited.

Was Ammit inspiration for the cryptid boys? (Probably not, they seem more intimidating than her as they hunt the hearts of still-living rulebreakers.) Would they know of Ammit/her myth and what do they think of it, do they go “oh ho ho ho, silly humans misinterpret us” or are they like “who was treading on my heart eating turf all those years ago?”

Sorry, I just got really excited about that and was wondering. I tried to capture all my excited typos but if I missed any, I’m sorry. ^^;

Fun fact: I used to dislike hearts (after all, I call Valentine’s Day EPSHOD (Evil Pink Squishy Holiday Of Doom)), but thanks to Cryptid Sightings, I have an appreciation for hearts because that’s what the cryptid boys called us/the hunter.

You have somehow managed to completely rewrite how I feel about hearts. XD;

Shoh is an original character. Paahlott is not.

And I could just see the cryptid boys fighting with the cause of their heart���s night terrors. Two big, powerful demonic cryptids clashing under moonlight, breaking trees like twigs, tearing up fields in their monumental scuffle. Just wanted to pass that along if the song helps in any way… ^^;

Also: a kinda weird question. Are all cryptids demonic? Or are some just purely organic? Is it possible for there to be a “holy” cryptid? Like one that is immune to holy water, or whose blood can hurt the cryptid boys?

That's a sick fighting song, it feels villainous in a way and intense, like terrifying but because you know it's about to get big and violent, and then the beat drop gets my heart pumping! I dig it :D

No, not all cryptids are demonic! Demonic is a type of classification that relates to a cryptid's ability to possess things/people as well as being especially dangerous and deadly. Sun/Moon are classified as demonic because they possess vessels and can cause serious damage and death when/where they please, obviously they have their reasons, but from a cryptid hunter's perspective, it doesn't matter either way.

No holy cryptid! That's impossible as cryptids are by nature otherworldly and not holy. Sun/Moon can tolerate holy water but only at night and there are certain other cryptids who can resist holy water, it just depends on their power and strength and any special conditions like in Sun/Moon's case.
