YGITOBER DAY 20: COSTUME
I’m late again! I had to get off tumblr for nearly two days and had this ready days in advanced, but obviously those two facts conflicted with each other and now I’m late!
Anyway, here’s Espa. I’m kind of growing slowly more obsessed with them... I love them.

YGOTOBER 7: Paranoia
The line of sunlight from your window stretches across the room as the time passes. You wait, and you wait, and you wait for the knock on the door, the click of the lock being undone, that will signal the end ... The sunlight stretches further, and you hear nothing, just the tick of a clock on the nightstand you can’t see assuring you that time is in fact passing. You get angry. Why are they doing this to you? If they hate you so much, why can’t they just get it over with? Why do they have to make you wait, make you count the minutes of your life?

Awaken
Okay, so this next story of YGOtober 2018 is called Awaken, and it is a sequel to my other story, Comatose, which I wrote for VRAINS week 2 months ago. I don’t know if Awaken is the same as Rebirth, which is the theme of this event, but I hope you enjoy the story.
It’s been 2 months since Yusaku saved Link VRAINS from the Tower of Hanoi, but it’s been 2 months since Revolver, Ryoken Kogami, his voice of hope, his savior, has fallen into a coma.
His last attack during their duel had almost killed him, but luckily, the doctors manage to save him, but he will stay in a coma for maybe for weeks, or months, so Yusaku has been visiting Ryoken everyday in the real world, and in Link VRAINS, as Playmaker, he is taking care of Revolver, even if Link VRAINS is in construction after the Knights of Hanoi attacked it.
Although SOL Tech has made Playmaker wanted in Link VRAINS and that there are bounty hunters after his head, he still manage to sneak away from them without any notice.
But as soon as he came to visit Ryoken in the real world, he was inform by Ryoken’s doctor that he plans on unplugging the cord because he is not waking up any time soon, so they all thought it’s best if they just let him go.
Yusaku was heartbroken by what the doctor had said and he feels like he wants to cry, or scream at him to not unplug the cord, but he just understands.
He really doesn’t want to let go of Ryoken, he was the one who gave him courage and let him live, but knowing that when he won’t wake up in the real world and in Link VRAINS, meaning he needs to let go.
Before he says goodbye to Ryoken in the real world, he logs into Link VRAINS to say goodbye to Revolver.
Playmaker manage to sneak pass the bounty hunters as he headed to the ware house. As he is on his way, he thinks about Revolver. Yes, he did try to destroy Link VRAINS, and he wants to capture Ai because he is an Ignis, but still, he saved him 10 years ago, and he will never forget that. And during those 2 months as he took care of Revolver in Link VRAINS, and visiting Ryoken in the real world, he somehow developed feelings for him. A lot.
He knows that if Ryoken wakes up, he knew that he would never have feelings for him, or wanting to have a future with him, because Ryoken is still tied to his father’s promise to destroy the Ignis, but since Ryoken won’t wake up and that the doctors will unplug him, he guess he won’t have a future with him.
Playmaker made it to the ware house. As he enters the ware house and approached to Revolver’s bed shack, he stops walking and his eyes widen of what he is seeing.
Revolver was sitting up on the bed shack. He was awake. Fully awake.
He then turned around and looked at Playmaker with his yellow eyes. They weren’t blank at all, well basically he’s not wearing his mask.
“Playmaker?” Revolver seemed confused. He probably doesn’t remember what happened during their duel. “What are you doing here? Where am I? Why do have this headache?”
Playmaker didn’t answer the questions. He was speechless of how Revolver is awake. If he is awake, then he can log out and get out of the coma in the real world, meaning he would be okay.
Soon, tears started falling out of Playmaker’s eyes, then he ran towards Revolver and hugs him very tight.
Revolver was startled by the sudden reaction Playmaker did and he fall on his back of the bed shack with Playmaker on top of him as he is hugging him tightly. He suddenly heard Playmaker crying. What has gotten into Playmaker, he thought to himself.
“You’re awake… You’re awake! Thank god!” He heard Playmaker mutter while he is crying.
“What is wrong with you?” he asked the crying teen hero, “Is this about the whole future thing together? I told you before, I don’t want a future with you.”
“I don’t care,” he said, crying into Revolver’s shoulder, “All I care about is you, okay and alive, just how I wanted it… Please don’t ever try to leave me…”
Revolver was surprised when Playmaker begged to him. It’s not like him. But, somehow, he really doesn’t care. He then hugs Playmaker and he rubs his back as he try to calm him down a bit.
He may not know why Playmaker is acting like this, but he does know that he is happy. And somewhere deep inside, Revolver a little happy too.
A happy end to this short story. And yes, I know, I added a little bit of Datastormshipping in it. Just because I don’t ship it, doesn’t mean I can write a little bit of Datastorm.
Anyway, I hope you all enjoyed the story. Please leave a comment on what you all think about it.

Day 1: A Lonely Place
For as long as Judai could remember his mind was an unusually lonely place. Not that he knew much about minds and how they should feel like, but to him it was as if something was missing. Something that should've been there with him in the warm embrace of darkness.
He asked his parents about it once. Parents were supposed to know this stuff, right? His parents froze for a moment before his father turned to him.
“It's probably just the constant moving getting to you. Why don't you try to make some friends tomorrow? We'll be here for at least a year,” he had said.
Judai knew that that wasn't the problem. He wanted to ask further, but his mother still refused to look at him and his father had a weird look in his eyes. So he agreed to go out the next day and try to make some friends.
It never helped. No matter how many friends he made in the months before the next move none of them could fill the loneliness in his mind. Maybe they couldn't because he knew they'd only be around for such a short time. Maybe he just needed a place to stay for a while.
And then came Duel Academy and with it the best friends he ever made. Sure, each of them were messed up in their own way, but then so was he and for the first time his mind didn't feel as lonely. When he got his Neo-Spacians and he learned that he controlled the Gentle Darkness the warmth of the darkness in his mind made sense.
But he couldn't shake the feeling that something was still missing. Something nagged at him since he remembered sending the Neo-Spacians to space. It felt as if he wasn't remembering the whole thing.
Then Yubel stood in front of him and the memories rushed through him. Of receiving Yubel as a gift, of talking to Yubel and learning how to duel from them. Of Yubel hurting people and him sending them off to space to be fixed just for them both to burn in the fires of the Light of Ruin. Of the silence and loneliness that followed.
They were barely together before they were ripped apart once more.
He knew it should've been him staying back with Yubel, Johan was already too deep as it was and now he was who knows where with Yubel, suffering for Judai's sins. They all did. None of this would've happened if he never send them away.
Of course he went to the other dimension in hopes of finding both of them. Of course the others wanted to come and help him. Of course it didn't work out nearly as well as they hoped it would. Of course he messed it all up.
He had way too much time to think while Haou took over the fighting for him. It was weird being him yet not being him. The darkness held him closer than ever as if protecting him from outside threats, trying to soothe him as he grieved his friends.
Jim's light pushed Haou back and allowed Judai to take control of his body again. He could still feel Haou in his mind, holding Judai in his arms, telling him that Super Fusion was ready to help them get Yubel back.
At the time he didn't understand how that would work, but now standing before Yubel being Judai/Haou/himself he understood. There was really only one way to free Yubel from the influence from the Light of Ruin.
It took a while to get everything in position to use Spiritual Fusion with more close calls than he would've liked, but he got it off, choosing himself and Yubel as Fusion materials. The world faded away and then it was just them.
Yubel took their rightful place in his mind, his very soul, as his body adjusted to no longer being human. They'd never be separated again. They'd never have this loneliness eating away at them ever again and for the first time in forever they felt truly complete.

For ygotober! Day Two: Ghost Stories
Ryou Bakura was renowned, among his friends, for his ghost stories.
"Thousands of years ago, there was a village... a secluded village in the heart of the harsh Egyptian desert."
The lights were turned off, with only candles to light the room. Ryou sat with his friends clustered around him—Jounochi and Honda on one side, Anzu on the other, and Yugi across from him. Yugi swallowed.
"In the time of Ancient Egypt," Ryou said, his voice low, "grave-robbing was a horrible crime. If the body's rest was disturbed, the soul would never find its way to the afterlife. And if you robbed the body of its funerary goods, then the soul would be left destitute in the afterlife. Bodies were carefully prepared... organs removed and placed in canopic jars... body cavities packed with cloth to give the hollowed-out corpse a more human shape... tombs prepared with the utmost care.
"This village of graverobbers was a place to be avoided—a place of poverty and misery, hunger and crime." Ryou leaned forward slightly. His eyes, in the candlelight, glowed eerily, shadowed by lack of sleep. He paused, then said softly, "Perhaps the gods themselves had turned their backs on it. The Pharaoh's men appeared, one moonless night, and slaughtered every man, woman, and child in that village. The villagers screamed like demons as they were boiled alive, skin peeled away from muscle and muscle stripped from bone, blood smelted into gold by black magic. And the royal armies laughed."
Yugi felt a familiar stirring deep within him; felt the unease of the one who shared his body. Other Me?
The Other Yugi didn't reply, but Yugi felt his anxiety rise mysteriously. Though the others in the circle seemed unnerved, fidgeting and watching Ryou intently, the Other Yugi's disturbance was far more visceral, and Yugi tried to keep his hands from shaking.
"That village was abandoned, bequeathed to the ghosts in place of a proper graveyard—it sits out in the desert, even now, its weary inhabitants wandering its streets endlessly," Ryou murmured. "They were never able to find rest. They're still there, even now, waiting for those that wronged them to stray close enough... waiting for the Pharaoh so that they might devour him, and deny him of his own restful tomb. They wait, though the passage of time has driven them mad, to exact their revenge. And for any unfortunate person who wanders into their village after all this time... there will be nothing but darkness and agony, the vengeance of grave-robbers exacted from beyond their own graves."
Honda gave a nervous little squeak, and Anzu grabbed onto Yugi's shoulder. But Yugi was frozen, the Other Yugi's anxiety making his heart pound. Other Me... what is it?
Again, the Other Yugi offered no reply, though Ryou Bakura had fixed Yugi with an oddly intense gaze. Yugi felt his heart, impossibly, beat faster.
"They'll wait, until the Pharaoh reappears," Ryou said softly. "And, until that time..."
"Okay!!" Jounochi exclaimed loudly, leaping to his feet. Honda shrieked with surprise at the movement, and Ryou blinked, the trance broken. Yugi drew back institutionally, even as he, too, blinked furiously. Jounochi fumbled for the light, and a moment later bathed them all in artificial light. "I'll go grab some snacks from the kitchen! What'd'ya say? Who wants to take a break?"
"I'll help!" Honda said, scrambling to his feet.
"I'll get drinks!" Anzu volunteered, bounding up. In a hurried mess of footsteps, the three fled the room, leaving Ryou and Yugi alone.
Ryou Bakura swayed wearily as he watched his friends leave. Yugi saw the bags beneath his eyes, and leaned forward.
"That was... a very frightening story, Ryou."
Ryou smiled—a tired, appreciative smile. "Really? Thanks, Yugi!"
Yugi felt the one who shared his body stir, once again, unsettled. Other Me... "Did you read it somewhere? About that village? Or did you make it up?"
Ryou shook his head, tipping slightly to the side; Yugi resisted the urge to reach out and steady him, and wondered when Ryou had last slept. Ryou raised one hand to his chest, and Yugi noticed, for the first time, that his friend's fingers were twitching.
"No, I..." Ryou blinked, then smiled once again—a deeply fatigued smile that stretched itself thin across his face. "No, I... dreamed it."

Prompt #2 -- Ghost Story
❝They say that in the human world, abandoned asylums are a hot spot for paranormal activity and ghost sightings.❞
The starry eyed magician wrapped his arms around the Kuriboh who had joined him tonight. Just in time for a ghost story, that is. He placed his furry friend in his lap, and received an excited “Kuriiiii~!” in response.
❝But there’s one in particular that is said to be far more sinister than all the others,❞ a pause, Doomstar’s gaze meeting Kuriboh’s. ❝And it is said that once a person enters this asylum, there isn’t any way back out. That you’re trapped forever. It’s sometimes called the Devil’s Playground.❞
All lighting across Doomstar’s room seemed to vanish then, and he could feel Kuriboh jump in surprise. Alas, the darkness lasted but mere moments. That is, until the magician cast a spell to display a visual of the supposed haunted asylum. He took a sip of his juice and smiled.
❝To get into this asylum, you must enter the front doors. Once inside, there’s a large foyer where people tend to camp out. It makes for an easy way out if they become too frightened, right? Wrong! They sealed their fate the moment they stepped in!❞
Trembling... he felt trembling in his lap. The light from his spell display was enough for him to see that Kuriboh was trembling. Was it out of fear or... anticipation? Only time would tell.
❝But of course you cannot simply stay in the foyer, right? One must explore their surroundings.  The ground floor has the least activity, but if you pay close enough attention, you may see doors opening on their own, or shadows darting across the wall. But that’s expected, you see.❞
The display changed so that the second floor became visible.
❝Legend has it that once you ascend the stairs to the second floor, you can kiss the first floor goodbye. There are many hallways to tread, and even more rooms to peek into. Some rooms are empty. Others... are vile. These rooms used to belong to the resident patients, but having been abandoned can be quite messy. The beds are not made, there is clutter all over the floor, and... do not go into the bathroom -- or so we are told.❞
Kuriboh sank further into Doomstar’s lap, glancing up at his starry friend with visible concern -- to which Doomstar offered a reassuring pet to his head.
❝Because if you do go in... the bathtub fills with blood and the angry ghost of the patient who lived there is said to pop out and give chase to you! All the way down the hallway to the flight of stairs that would take you to the foyer! Or... it would have taken you there... if the path to the foyer was still accessible.❞
“Kurrrrriiiiii...”
By now, the Kuriboh had covered its eyes and the trembling became far more prominent.
❝But don’t you worry your silly head, I won’t let any bloody ghosts get you. Let’s finish this, shall we? So anyway, the stairs to the foyer are gone and the people are forced to find an alternate route. What better path than the hallway that opened up in place of the stairs? But caution must be heeded here, because the hallway has no light--❞
The room dimmed further.
❝--but if you follow the sound of children’s laughter, you’ll surely find your way. At least you hope so. You’d better, because the second floor is home to many unsightly creatures that are often descried as DEMONS and may sneak out of the rooms behind you and snatch you up! Better hurry to the third floor so you don’t get caught!❞
Doomstar exaggerated creepy laughter, and the Kuriboh peeked at the display through its large claws and huffed at the sight. Within the display was a group of three people, running from ghosts and demons chasing them down the hallway until they ascended another flight of stairs.
❝And this would be the final mistake, you see? What looks like a third floor is merely an illusion in this asylum! It doesn’t exist!❞
The group of people in the magical display stopped in their tracks, and when they turned around, there was a wall where the stairs used to be. There was no way down, and no other path up.
❝Do you know what happens to people who climb to the illusory third floor?❞ he whispered, his voice low.
“K-kuri...?”
❝They cross over to the other side, Kuriboh! They become ghosts, trapped forever with many others just like them! Unable to leave these grounds for all eternity. Trapped... with the ghosts of residents who were once insane and out of their minds!❞
At this point, the Kuriboh had flung himself out of Doomstar’s lap and away from the display to hide within the confine’s of this crazy magician’s cape.
Damn you, Doomstar! Damn you and your ghost stories!
Just for that, the Kuriboh reached out and snatched the plate of snacks and was going to claim them all for himself. He deserved at least that much, right? And Doomstar surely wasn’t going to object.
Or else.
Tumblr media
❝But you needn’t worry yourself, my friend. It is as I said. It is a legend. A fabled tale. Good thing it isn’t real, right?❞
Or... was it?
Good thing neither of them could hear the screams of terror and pain echoing from within a certain asylum deep within the human realm.

YGOTober Day 1: A Lonely Place
It’s about four months after it’s all over that Yuugi realizes he can still get into his soul room. It’s an accident. Of course it’s an accident; he wouldn’t try to get back in there on his own. He wouldn’t have even thought he could, really. It’s just that sometimes he reaches for somewhere quiet at night, and one night, he actually got the place he was reaching for. He supposes it’s a good thing he did it while he was alone at night; he can only imagine what it looks like from the outside when there’s no one else to take his place. There’s still a hallway outside of his own unlocked door. There’s nothing across the hallway, though, just scuff marks where there was once some large, heavy door, scraping across the floor. It’s a scar where he once was. His soul room is lying open, and when Yuugi glances in, it’s as much of a mess as before. It’s not as full of toys, though. He wonders if he can get a paintbrush. His other half’s door deserves more than scuff marks to mark where it once was, doesn’t it? Nevermind that he’s painting in the scars deeper in his soul, once he finds a Sharpie in a drawer. He just needs to paint a name in. He promised not to forget it. In the weeks that follow, though, he spends too much time at night staring at the name he wrote. It’s silent, and it echoes, in that hallway. It’s not so much the quiet at night he was looking for as something terribly loud in its absence. He ends up back there, anyway. A poor substitute indeed.
