The Song I Came to Sing: 

Rabindranath Tagore or Thakur - the beloved Indian writer, painter, poet and musician.

His works are not much popular outside India, even not so much outside West Bengal.

When he won the Nobel Prize for literature in 1913, he became the first non-European to do so.

His compositions became the national anthems of India and Bangladesh, and that of Sri Lanka was inspired by his work.

Besides poems, short stories and novels, he wrote almost 2,300 songs, forming a world of music, which has inspired artists, singers and society and culture in Bengal for over a century.

He was regarded as a great philosopher.

Unfortunately, over the years there has been a serious lack of quality translation of his work into English.

Tagore and Einstein, the two great men met in 1930.
