Answering this one months late with a tiny fic snippet of something that hasn't seen the light of day.

Thomas isn’t even sure how Vince finds him.

“How did you find me?” is the first thing Thomas says to him in over three years.

Vince shrugs in that infuriating way he has - a small gesture that does very little to sell someone on the idea that he’s as harmless as he might look. “Asked,” he answers, succinct and a little smug. It also doesn’t fully sound like the truth, and Thomas vaguely entertains the idea that Vince never really didn’t know where to find him.

Thomas sighs, shoulders his pack and turns away. “Nice to see you,” he says, unsure if it’s a lie or not. “Bye, Vince.”

“We need you.”

And there it is.

Thomas stops. He can’t really help it. He’s known Vince for half his life. He’s the reason it changed; first for the better, and then… Well. It wasn’t his fault. Vince had pushed him when he needed it, supported him when he didn’t know how to ask, and then let him go when staying would have destroyed him.

“I wouldn’t ask if I didn’t have to,” Vince says, suddenly softer, to Thomas’ back. He hasn’t moved closer. “You know that.”

That’s what makes it harder, really, is Thomas does know that.
