so this picture was actually taken in 2015 by the Earth Polychromatic Imaging Camera (EPIC) on the Deep Space Climate Observatory (DSCOVR) satellite! the green around the right hand side is an artifact of the way the camera works - it takes images in three different colours and then combines them

i just thought it was really cool how the camera works!
