They hadn’t rebuilt Chloe’s clinic yet. Not that she expected them to, not when that entire stretch of the Wards was so much rubble and char, but it at least would have made it easier to cope.

She could have used the supplies that used to be in it, too.

There’d been no time to grab anything from her clinic, or her tiny apartment above it. She hadn’t even realized what was happening at first. The day had been so… normal. She’d had some diagnostic tests running on a blood sample from a sick salarian, the notification that her sushi delivery was on its way had just popped up, she’d been offering an asari child her choice of a sticker or a piece of candy because she was so brave getting her scraped-up knee looked at… and then there was a horrifying shriek of crashing metal, environmental alarms blared out, and the Wards were engulfed in fire and screams.

At least the little asari and her mother made it out with her. She hadn’t seen Deston yet. Some little, worried thing in the back of her mind chewed at her with the memory of how much he’d struggled just walking into her clinic to ask for a physical, and some days it was all she could do to just keep repeating to herself that he’d probably been taken to a different shelter.
