The Scrungly Little Guys (gender neutral) Contest will start THIS THURSDAY, September 26th. All contestants have now been processed and are ready to scrungle it up for your enjoyment. Reminder that this contest enshrines the weird, the off-putting, the comic, the character actor, and the strange cinema legend. If you need a reminder of what scrungle means, this picture is the golden standard.

All polls—including ongoing polls, previous rounds, old tournaments, the various shadow brackets, the Dracula Daily polls, and fun mini polls—can be found in the #hotvintagepoll tag. I am working on a more complete tagging system so people just here for the polls can navigate the blog more easily, but that's still in the works.

FAQs:

“Define scrungly?” For the purposes of this tournament, a contestant must noticeably present in some way as at least one of these: odd, bizarre, off-putting, disheveled, creeping, feral, small, filthy, silly, funny, kooky, comical, exhausted, or just plain strange. This contest presents a wide array of scrungly appeal, so not every contestant will hit every single one of these (but should, ideally, be a few of them). Scrungles were chosen based on how convincing their submitted propaganda was. This contest is all about oddball character actors, creeping henchmen, comic relief sidekicks—the side characters who never get the credit they deserve in proper rundowns of famous old movie actors.

"How do I decide who to vote for?" Vote on whoever seems scrungliest to you. Do not vote for someone based on hotness alone. The video propaganda, included under the cut, is highly encouraged for showcasing scrungles.

"Is this just like the hotness tournaments?" No. This contest is sillier.

"Hey! Some of these guys sucked and they shouldn't be here!" Yes, some of these guys sucked. I agree with you. For reasons I've gone into before, I don't exclude anyone from the contest for moral reasons, even if I personally think they were garbage. I do this because I cannot responsibly research and vet every competitor's background and legacy, and I'm not comfortable being the moral barometer for everyone, even in cases where I think it's really obvious. You are welcome to vote against people for moral reasons, but as mod I don’t post or boost negative propaganda about anyone.

If I see repetitive, trolling, or bigoted remarks in the comments, I will block you from this bracket. If you want to point out a competitor’s problematic aspects in the replies, that’s fine, but if I see bad-faith trolling, you will be blocked. I will also block if you start harassing other people voting on the polls. If you really hate that someone is winning, please post positive propaganda for their opponent instead.

I welcome additional propaganda for the scrungly little guys in reblogs or asks. I boost the best propaganda I see and try to boost equally for everyone. Why getting offended over something ANOTHER person will do in ANOTHER reality? It has nothing to do with you, regardless if you agree or not with their choices. The problems of THIS reality are the problems of THIS reality. To get into shifting, first accept infinity. Accept that shifting is not moral, ethic, logical. Accept real change. Your choosen life is not a book. You are not writing a book. It's not a show people from here will be watching.

This will probably be the last time I speak about it. Don't commit to something you can't understand or don't care to understand. Don't commit to a practice you don't really know about. You'll get into shifting and see people publicly saying they are doing something in their dr's you don't agree with. You know what to do about that? Absolutely nothing. If you can't accept this, maybe shifting is not for you.

Ego, misinformation, lies aren't welcome in spirituality or any cosmic practice either. Log off TikTok. Log off Instagram. Shifting is not on the screen, neither on your head. Try taking it a little more seriously instead of a fun hobby that came out of TikTok. Do not trust everything blindly. What others say of shifting (especially the new age) cannot always be true.

There are people who lie about their experiences and get away with it because everyone refuses to NOT believe everything. Seriously, stop believing every pseudo post online.

You may not agree with me. That's completely fine. Still, in these last few years, TikTok surely made people start twisting and confusing the practice. In science and spirituality, experimenting, learning, and studying is essential. Also, yes, shifting can be a mix of beliefs. Yes, people can believe in whatever they want, but it becomes dangerous when it crosses the line. I'll always say this: be careful with yourself, your limits and mental health. Do not let the despair or urgency mess with your head.

Also, if someone race changes, ages themselves down or whatever they do with THEIR lives is THEIR choice. You clearly don't understand anything about infinity if you keep bothered by people doing these things. "It's bad" "only x people believe it's okay", literally, you haven't known the real community to say this. There are people from multiple races who race changes in their dr's, age themselves down, do whatever they want. You should do what makes you comfortable. Infinity is not about what's right and wrong. It doesn't exist when we talk about multiverse/reality switching. Most of these cases are stupid and most of these people won't even come back after they shift, stop being so bothered. Later, you complain that no one shares stories or dr things anymore. The community is dying etc etc. Of course it is and it will keep on fading away because of stupid shaming you do towards other's lives that has NOTHING to do with yours. Absolutely nothing. YOU create problems that don't even exist in the whole shifting concept and if you hate this, go to a reality where everything is exactly as you want. Every shifter follows what you want them to. You're also a shifter, right?

Infinity is not a fairytale and it can be quite "ugly" to our human minds. Man made laws do not apply to this. It's not about having no morals, but about understanding that the whole shifting concept doesn't need them. Infinity doesn't need it. Spirituality doesn't need it. People have free will, as well as you. You can have your opinions, but shifting is not about that. You keep killing the practice every time you be like "this is bad" "this is wrong" "this is problematic" If you think so, then quit, or at least try to be more open minded. You have the option to block people and ignore them if you don't agree with them. You have the option to quit if you can't fathom the rawness of shifting.

Take care of YOUR lives. Do not create discussions over all of it. Personally, I think these opinions are just personal thoughts of a quite closed minded person. Don't speak about infinity if you're going to keep making posts about "shifting things that don't sit well with me", "things you shouldn't do in your Dr" etc. It doesn't sit well with you because you can't understand the practice and what you're trying to do. You all want to be spiritual and shift but only when it's romanticized and "polite". When the real spirituality and the real shifting comes through, you get weirded out. You know why? That's because you don't understand a single thing of what you claim to be. You're just trying to be trendy, most probably. Non-human things won't adapt to your tiny human mind. YOU adapt to them.

I won't try to change your mind. I have no obligation. If you want to keep pretending to understand things and then keep making up discussions, it's your problem. You learn spirituality off TikTok and Instagram and go around claiming to be spiritual. You learn shifting off TikTok and go around claiming to be a shifter. Get outside and start truly learning something for once.

"I studied and still think it's wrong" then don't practice, or at least, stop sharing your opinions as solid facts/rules. Stop shaming others. Keep it to yourself. You're not "calling problems out", you're CREATING problems. You're making a new shifting inside your head to adapt to yourself. YOU adapt to shifting, not the opposite.

"this community is so problematic" then quit. No one is holding you hostage. I ain't going to be the good positive affectionate shifter that will keep trying to motivate you. Besides, you hating on race changers or people who do "wrong" things in their dr's, yet, you use THEIR methods, THEIR informations. Hope you know that. If you're unhappy, then start doing your own stuff and, again, shift to a reality where the community has the same thoughts as you etc.

I had more to say, but I'll just stop by here because I know these words won't change anything. Some of you just see shifting as a fanfiction and treat spirituality as an accessory and your behavior shows it.

AU advice no one asks for woahhhh

I'm still on this app and check notifications all the time and I've noticed how many people really like my AU which really makes me feel relieved cause it was a rushed AU 😭 more or less, I think people should really start to make more AU's, they make me really happy and I enjoy most of them :)

If you're scared about posting your AU's or such, this is friendly advice from your good (wsp)pal:

• there's really nothing that's gonna stop you unless the original creator said not to, that being said, it's your imagination, go for it! I think people would be fantasized by how your AU goes, even if only like a few people see it and interact with it, people still see it, people still enjoy it! Don't just stop posting about it, you might make them hang on a cliffhanger.

• Taking breaks from your AU is completely fine, needing more time to rest off your AU for more personal stuff is completely fine too! And yes, sometimes canceling your AU is always fine, with or without a reasoning! People can't just stop you from doing what you do, besides, they can make up their own imagination from what you're AU could've ended as!

• AU's don't always have to be serious unless it has to, sometimes you just need to go with the flow on how you create and show it off! For me personally; I don't have any storyline plot to go for this except the actual show, but I can always work above it! Storyline is really good too, but if you can't think of one, try to think while working on it!

• if someone compares your AUs to something you don't like, it's okay to tell them that even though you're not really sure if they're being nice or not. If they're being rude about it, ignore it! Your AU is awesome! Sometimes people do have opinions on some areas which is completely fine, leave them be, don't try to start controversy with it!

"But ... what if ...." Just-go-with-it. No one will ever stop you from thinking what you think about your AU, well.. unless it's problematic maybe. Other people will really enjoy it even if they don't seem like it! + your AU doesn't need to have a happy ending, sad ending, or not even an ending at all! being creative with your mind is the best way to show what you can see.

I don't remember exact details, but something like 20 years ago, a German yaoi fanfiction site got sued. I think a parent saw their teen reading smut or something, and it got blown up to a pedophilia issue.

The site, which had very explicit warnings and a pretty good tagging system and etiquette, very dedicated mods, was forced to only show fics rated adult (yk, 'lemon' fics as it were) from 10pm to 6am, to prevent minors from accessing

And TBH I can say I never saw anything that I found ‘’problematic’’ – yes, I will admit some things were a bit less realistic than others but as far as I’m concerned it was in good fun and not something meant to be taken as an agenda of the OP. But as soon as Evan and Natlie showed that they were more than a one night stand, ya’ll lost the plot. Whether you mean to or not you are basically catering to the Rosa’s of the fandom and feeding into mental illness which is this obsessive nature of knowing about what they’re doing, feeling, whether they’ll be ‘’soulmates’’ eternally and that sort of shtick. Hi anon. I absolutely understand where you are coming from. But, what I would like to say is that we are not intentionally trying to get Rosa and the others excited so they can do what they do. And we are also not rooting against Evan and Natalie. if the readings were actually read by you and other people, you would see that we always say we are not against anybody. The cards might be, but I always try to look for the good. Shamrock and Admin both have their disclaimers in big giant print saying to take tarot with a grain of salt and it's just for fun. I highlight in red that I don't know anybody, I just started reading and this is just what it is. I am not an OG reader and this is very new to me. I don't have a public DNI or list of my personal ideologies in my bio. I do block people I'm uncomfortable with interacting or following (and yes, that's probably along the lines of 'general DNI criteria'). Nothing is a secret, so if you need to know anything that's not listed here to determine if you're comfortable following me, feel free to send me an ask or message (genuine).

I'm chronically offline, so I'm not involved in online discourse subcultures or in the loop with a lot of things. I'm not involved in system discourse or ship discourse so I'm not 'aligned' with anything. Ditto with knowing who is problematic on Tumblr. I also have significant memory issues and struggle to remember even "obviously problematic" usernames, so if I reblog from someone I shouldn't, just let me know - it's not on purpose.

I can't typically "boost" posts or reblog things because I "should" be talking about them. It doesn't mean I'm not paying attention or don't care. This is not a minor thing where I'm 'prioritising my mental health' so I don't feel sad - this is losing my ability to work/survive because I can't regulate my thoughts/actions and level of engagement. As an example: I can't personally add image IDs to reblogs, because if I start doing it just 'sometimes' or 'when I can', I quickly have to do it all day every day, on every post, even if I'm missing work to do it. Yes, that sounds ridiculous, but OCD is ridiculous. I wish I was in a better place with it - but at this point in my life, I'm not, and I can't 'bootstraps' my way around it because something is important, or the right thing to do (because with moral OCD, that's exactly why it has that effect on me).

1- are other languages allowed?

Yes! I speak English and French, so these 2 are completely fine. For anything else, I go with my best judgement (see answer #2 for content warnings and such).

2- are problematic tropes allowed?

In general yes. It's not realistic for us to read every single fanfic that is posted for the event, so we trust that writers will put the appropriate content warnings in the description of their post or in the tags (here or on AO3/FF.net etc.) I will add them to our reblog of the post as well. If there's any issue or if you think another content warning should be added to something we reblogged, please send us a message.

One thing we won't share on our accounts is graphic depiction and/or description of sex between minors or with a minor and an adult. You can still post it on your own account obviously, but we won't reblog it here or on our twitter account. Everything else that is sexual will be tagged #nsfw in our reblog.

3- are translations of previous works allowed? (My own fics, I mean)

Why not! You specified that it's your own work so there's no issue here. If you're translating someone else's work, please ask them for permission and credit them properly.

4- are WIP / Sneak peak allowed?

If you mean sharing WIPs / sneak peaks before the event (of works that you will post during the event) then absolutely! You can tag us in them and we'll reblog them. If you mean posting WIPs during the event for something that you will post later, that's also fine! I continue to check our notifications and the tag even if the event is over, so if you don't finish on time don't stress and just post it later.

As you can see we are not strict at all when it comes to the rules. We created this event to celebrate inukag, it's not a competition so you're really free to participate however you like. We still want to make sure everyone feels safe and comfortable so we had to draw a line somewhere when it comes to sexual content, but that's really it.

Was there a fic or writer who inspired you to start writing your own posted works? I don't think so :)

What do you remember about writing your first posted fic? I remember loving the emotions in the fic I was translating, the family drama, the unfolding troubled story etc. I don't remember what fic was my own afterwards or the emotions that accompanied writing it.

Is there a fic or fics you’re most proud of, and why? I really like my The Witcher modern!AU, for how long they are and how many themes from the games and books I managed to modernise while keeping the characters in character :)

Is there a fic you would redo completely if you could? Yes, I deleted a series of The Witcher ficlets in Polish just for that purpose. Maybe not rewrite completely, but I use one problematic trope far too many times and I hoped to change that. Still haven't even started, so I probably won't.

Is there a specific detail (setting, interaction, quirk, dialogue) you stole from your own life to use in a fic? Not really.

Is there a line in your fic that makes you smile/snicker/chuckle every time you remember it? I have that in a fic I haven't published yet. :)

Don't worry about it. Sorry for coming off so hostile at first on it; it came off as a tad rude, but now that I know the context behind it, I see where you're coming from.

I'm really sorry that people have said those kinds of things to you; that's really shitty. You're better off not interacting with people like that, so it's probably a good thing in the end that they wouldn't trade with you. People treat beginner artists and artists they deem to have "bad art" like shit, and that's not right. It's not like they became master artists overnight; I bet they spent years being stuck at a stage where their art's quality was at a similar level to that of the people they're making fun of. It's not much better if you have what they deem as "good art", because then you get all the entitled assholes who think you're their servant who owes them shit because they breathe. *Sigh* it really just sucks being an artist out here sometimes. 😔

Also, in regards to the adopt comment, that's mainly there for scam prevention. I don't want there to be a case of someone going "oh I'll trade you three fullbodies for your adopt!" and then showing up with art that was scribbled out in under a minute and looks like this:

"Yeah, that's completely recognizable as Sabrina! Now give me the adopt!"

People do shit like this to try to scam people out of adopts and this is to circumvent that. My only real metrics for gauging quality in that sense are:

1.) Does the art you're offering in payment look like what you offered in your examples?

and 2.) Does it look like you put effort into it and is the character recognizable?

If both are a yes, it's fine!

(If you want to offer on one or more of the adopts, feel free to! Neither have gotten a single offer yet, so you're pretty much guaranteed to get them if you offer, provided what you're offering is art [I'm VERY picky with other characters, but you can still offer if you want!]. lmao)

In short, we're endo neutral and anti misinformation. The long answer is a bit more complicated, but that is the vibe of it.

The answer your questions tho, yes, we think that headmates can form/split without trauma, but the original creation of the amnesia barriers(I.e creation of the system) has to be caused by trauma. This doesn't have to be horrific trauma, though. I know people whose systems split simply because they grew up autistic or neurodivergent in a family that didn't understand how to accommodate for that. What is traumatising to one person may be completely fine to another, and that's ok!

This question is a tricky one to answer, but I'll try my best(sorry if I get some words wrong). While I feel that the existence of endos isn't problematic in itself, it's when they start supporting ideas that are harmful or anti recovery and start to take terms from trauma survivors and make them about themselves (see. System hopping). This is when I feel I line is crossed. But most endos I've met are genuinely nice people and are really respectful, so I understand that those people mentioned above are a minority.

And the last one, yes, absolutely. Unless someone comes onto our turf and actively insults us, then we honestly don't really care if you believe in whatever. Being respectful is something that is normal for all of us unless you are acting maliciously towards us. And then you can expect the use of a fun little button called block and some low jabs:)

I'd also like to add that if someone comes on here and spreads misinformation, they will also receive this treatment, although with less aggression. I'd also like to mention that if you genuinely believe that you've had a completely non traumatic life and you're a system, good for you! You get the best parts of being a system without the ptsd. I hope you have a nice life like that, but please, please, please don't speak over people who have had a rough life talking about how hard it is being a system, I've seen this way too much and it gets kinda tiring.

Lastly, I'd like to reiterate what is mentioned in our intro. we'd like to keep the people that follow us mostly traumagenic. This is mostly for the reasons just stated above, but anyone respectful is welcome to interact if they want.

Yes I am a GI player, but I've only reblogged a few GI posts because the fandom doesn't appeal to me nearly as much as Hetalia does??

I know, it's weird. Tbh, I only went on Twitter for some content of my favourite GI ship (which also happens to be my ONLY ship, wait that sounds familiar... IDV fandom flashbacks) and nothing else. Even though that ship is constantly bashed on by antis (even though it's actually not problematic at all smh), that tag was the only part of twitter I felt entirely comfortable in

It's really sad tbh. Now I understand why Twitter has such bad rep. Not necessarily Twitter's fault, but I think it also has a bit to do with its design.

The fandom might be better on Tumblr because it's less big, but ofc I can't really confirm because I haven't spent as much time on Tumblr when it comes to the GI fandom since... well, there's also a lack of the "niche" content I enjoy.

Fine, I do have very specific preferences in hetalia too, but they're far more diverse than what I like in GI. Kind weird considering how GI has characters and relationships far more well-written than the ones in Hetalia, but I suppose it leaves very little room for imagination as a result. (I really LOVE fantasy, but I love creating my own fantasy worlds. It feels much easier to do that for Hetalia since GI itself already takes place in a fantasy world far more complete than anything I can ever come up with.)

Honestly, I'm really surprised that I'm still in the Hetalia fandom. It's been almost 5 years, which is a record for me. I thought Undertale (yeah, yeah I know) would be my longest fandom journey but no.

Maybe the biggest reason was that I wasn't in the fandom at its peak. Maybe I would have eventually gotten sick of the toxicity and bad vibes and then leave thinking that it had been very cringe of me to be part of it in the first place (I'm sorry, Undertale, but that's you. It's not your fault really, but I don't really have the best memories from your fandom)

Don't get me wrong, I'm still seeing posts about toxic hetalia fans, but trust me, it's far worse in GI. This is very tame stuff that I can ignore quickly. (No, I'm not denying that being toxic is bad, but I just want more positivity in my life, not be some sjw. That's why I'm on the internet :/ )

I may reblog GI content here, but I'm actually writing hetalia fics and drawing hetalia art (well I am also working on ONE GI fic but that's it.)

These are not actually my thoughts but aimeeeface on twitter! She tweeted these and tbh she made some great points that I hadn’t even considered so I got her permission to share what she wrote here!

love this analysis so much. actually have been analyzing + re-analyzing this one scene to a friend for days bc yes, it's wrong and problematic but i also think it accomplishes - visually- what he's trying to convey to her. that at this point he no longer has the energy to convey. aside from the fact that the alternative - an honest conversation - requires a vulnerability taichi does not have the mental or emotional capacity to handle at this point so soon after the last time he was vulnerable with her, i think the other details you pointed out (the way she grabs him, her forceful words regarding him not quitting specifically for her, her tears) play a huge role in how he chooses to react to her. what i focus on is the specific details of the kiss itself, how he fast and desperately he goes for it, how it looks like he pauses the second their one lip touches, how fast he backs away - like he gets driven to this point where he absolutely crosses a line, somewhat recognizes that this is Wrong, turns away and delivers that line to her. taichi losing it, the way that entire interaction is v unlike the taichi she knows, and his words affect her and she realizes he's actually hurting that much. i also like that chyfr doesn't romanticize that scene, it's not the big criminal act taichi haters turn it into but it's also absolutely wrong and you're supposed to be horrified he does it and somewhat relieved it doesn't go far. i hadn't considered it as build up from the taichi cup (where i you're right, she not only gives off mixed signals but also carelessly offers his kiss without his consent, in a way like maybe he gets the impression she doesnt think it matters to him who he kisses) but that makes a lot of sense. at the same time, much like the rejection, he expects her response before she even gives it, he definitely wasn't trying to kiss her long enough to get a reaction out of her but it represents the split second he, essentially, loses his mind. i think taichi is a flawed character and he makes mistakes, but turning this problematic moment into some violent crime isn't the way to go, and i feel people don't discuss him with nuance or allow him to make mistakes more than other characters, so i appreciate your analysis. some people do stupid things at peak emotion, and it's not a justification but i think it does drive the story from here bc that whole scene, not just his words but how uncomposed he is in that moment, is when she starts to see him as a fallible human.

I really like this addition b/c again it’s completely fine to be uncomfortable with the kiss - I think that was the point. However, the kiss was a mistake made in a moment of desperation and should Taichi never be allowed to ever come back from this? TBH we are all imperfect human beings and we will all make mistakes.

AND TAICHI FEELS BAD ABOUT HOW HE LEFT THINGS WITH CHIHAYA!! He really does. The guilt is apparent when you look at this:

Like not only did he leave things badly BUT THEN HE EVEN HAD THE AUDACITY TO FEEL GOOD THAT CHIHAYA WAS HURTING TOO!! Like be honest when someone hurts you do you not feel a bit of satisfaction when you can hurt them back? It’s such a believable and human flaw but Taichi truly thinks the worst of himself because of it. “There’s no coming back”.

Him quitting the club hurt him too you know… He missed out on the last year being able to play WITH HIS FRIENDS AS WELL! :( But people only think that Taichi was being manipulative because she rejected him? Bro he was on the edge of quitting before that if you hadn’t noticed. If Chihaya had accepted him honestly it would have ended up disastrous for both of them. It was not Chihaya’s job to fix Taichi (even though she wanted to help him by making him smile). This was a journey he had to go on himself. Him tethering himself to Karuta for Chihaya’s sake WAS VERY BAD. The rejection while heartbreaking was necessary b/c he needed to stop doing things for Chihaya’s pleasure only and do things for himself too. I will also be honest I hadn’t even considered the fact that Chihaya had offered up Taichi’s kiss without his consent. Even I am fallible to the double standards of sexism. Because let’s be honest if Taichi had offered up Chihaya’s kiss as a prize without her consent most people would have been up in arms about it. But because she only sees him as a “friend” it’s somehow ok? Ehhhhh. Or maybe it just slipped under people’s radars like it did mine.

Anyways I kinda just said what Aimee said in my own words cjkhackacn. All that is to say is that Aimee made SOME REALLY GOOD ADDITIONS SO THANK YOU FOR SHARING!
