Hi, yes, I know it’s been two and a half years. It’s been two and a half years but I’m still not over that shitshow that calls itself ‘Avengers: Endgame’.
You know what irritates me the most? Above Tony’s death, above that shitty ending, above Professor Hulk and Nat’s self-sacrifice and Gamora who isn’t our Gamora but a different one and all those bad, bad character arcs in general?
What irritates me the most is that stupid, dumbass, ill-conceived 5-year-gap between Infinity War and Endgame.
It’s shock value. Nothing but pure shock value. There was not a single braincell involved when the writers decided to go with that route. They only had one question in mind and that was “how can we shock our audience the most?” and yes, congratulations, mission accomplished you fucking idiots!
But how, how on earth do you plan something like that without a single thought of the consequences? How do you write a world where half of the population of the entire universe vanishes and then of a sudden reappears 5 years later as if not a second has passed for them, without answering the questions of
1. Hey, what’s with all those who have moved on meanwhile? Who have found new families/lovers/made a new life? Being suddenly confronted with their old family/loved ones being back? Just… you know… 5 years younger, which can, depending on age, be quite a huge deal?
2. What’s with those who couldn’t move on? Who might’ve harmed themselves because they couldn’t go on with having everyone lost?
3. What’s with those who did blip and then suddenly have to orient themselves within these new circumstances?
4. And so many questions that were already asked post-Infinity War: didn’t technically more die due to accidents during the snap? Not to mention that the world in itself must’ve changed a great deal when this many people disappear suddenly. Economy, living conditions, environment in general—where’s the world building? Where are the explanations?
5. Is the MCU aware that every following movie/series plays now in 2023? Considering how often they already messed up with the numbers I wouldn’t be surprised even a single bit if they forgot. (Which is extremely embarrassing for such a huge franchise.)
Like, ‘Spiderman Far From Home’ technically should’ve answered all those questions, instead they just made jokes about it, like that one boy explaining that his younger brother is suddenly older than him. Was that supposed to be funny? It’s not funny, it’s confusing, it’s weird, it’s life-changing!
Those writers really didn’t think even a single bit when they decided to go with that 5-year-gap. They could’ve done 5 months instead! 5 months would’ve been still shocking, because none of us would’ve expected this much time to pass until the Avengers avenge, and they still could’ve easily shown how in that time Thor developed depression, Clint went murdering people, Bruce experimented on himself a bit too far (though, rather not to be honest, fuck that Professor Hulk bullshit what the hell even) etc.
Sure, we wouldn’t’ve gotten Iron Fam which is a pity (unless they made Tony survive wielding the gauntlet and giving us a view into the future with happy retired Iron Fam, thank you very much), but all in all still much more reasonable than letting 5 years pass unnecessarily.
Honestly, fuck Endgame solely for that alone. Fuck the writers. And fuck everyone who approved going with that incredibly bad route of wannabe story telling.
