The Doll Amongst the Battlefield
A report for history class lies on the computer screen…
There are many legends about the Beast beyond the Monolith. However, today will focus on the creature’s very last tales, before the beast disappeared from the heavens.
The first tale is a poem describing the deity in it’s true form, wandering from it’s Monolith. It was likely wartime when the story was written, for the deity stumbled upon the aftermath of many battles.
The second is light-hearted, telling the story of a shape-shifted beast and a young girl. They’re traversing a crowded market, and the beast goes through a multitude of attempts to keep the child from trouble. It ends with the two reaching home, and the beast gifting the child with a weapon of protection.
The third details the rise and fall of a hero, with the Beast guiding them till the very end. The final stanza is tragic, as it describes the silence as the battle ends, and the feeling of dread as the warrior takes their last breath.
The last poem isn’t actually about the deity, but rather a traveling hero. A woman comes to the great monolith, looking for the blessing of power it granted to so many before them. However, there was no reply. The Beast had went beyond the Monolith for the final time, never to return.
There are only theories as to what could have happened to the deity. Some say it’s failure to protect the warrior had it kicked out of the heavens; others think it left to find a way to revive them. Maybe it was simply grief that made it take it’s leave.
