#yes i am rewatching for the millionth time

I think Our Flag Means Death is a very unique show in a way that they don't care to cater to mainstream media. And yes, by mainstream media I mean the general straight people.

I think it's very important that we have feel-good shows like Heartstopper. A few years back, a tv show about two queer boys in high school would be unthinkable. But its plot generally revolves around explaining queerness. Sure, it's nice. It's definitely the show I would watch with my family if I were a teenager and wanted to come out again (I had to watch glee with my mom to do that. not optimal). It's the show where teenagers find love and themselves, but sexuality is constantly discussed, explained, sanitized. It's the show straight people will watch. And that's good. We do need shows like that.

But Our Flag Means Death doesn't even bother trying. It's a show about mostly middle aged people, most of them not white, most of them queer in one way or the other. It's really a game of spot the hetero, like someone said. And the characters are not sublte about it. They have sex for fun, something most characters don't have in tv shows, definitely not queer characters. They make dick jokes. They are not all conventionally attractive and they know it, and the writing doesn't care. They are all people before they are queer representation.

Stede's storyline in s1 is in a part about discovering himself and his sexuality, but it's not obnoxiously repeated. Instead, it's played in a natural way. Stede's storyline is ALL about finding himself, yet it's not just about that. Just like Ed's storyline, it's about toxic masculinity and allowing himself to have fine things and self-hatred and finding his place in a world, something most of us can relate to. Hell, none of us were even sure the main characters were going to kiss and end up together, we were all so sure it's a queerbait. But this show doesn't bait its audience. It's not afraid of weirdness. It embraces it instead. There is a nonbinary character. No, they are not a mermaid. Call them jim. That's it. Yes, Lucius and Pete got engaged. Everyone there knows what mateolage is, congrats. Olu and Jim never break up and then Archie shows up, then Zheng, and we all know. We all know.

Two men nearing fifty have a deep, romantic moment where one of them appears as a mermaid, and it's treated as the profound scene it is without ridiculing it. This would never fly in a 'mainstream' media. It would have to be downplayed. Here, it saves Ed's life.

The show tells you racists suck, but it doesn't tell you in a condescending, finger-waving way catered to the white people. Instead, it sets your ship aflame and burns you alive, runs a knife through your hand, puts poison in your drink and kills you.

This is a show for adults, for queer people of all kinds, and it does not give a fuck if anyone else gets it. It's so rare to find a tv show that caters to us, yet alone a tv show that's genuinely good and caring and so well loved.

This is a show that basically straightbaited its audience in the first season, that's how much they don't care.

Idk, I just feel that it will take ages for another show like OFMD to exist in a world full of MCU and media that tries so hard to be liked by everyone it loses its personality and charm. Rant over

Mmm I've been rewatching hands of time again. For like the millionth time, and something just came up to me. So you know how Krux and Acronix go back in time to win against the alliance and all? And then when they threaten to kill everyone, Wu yields and the future changes? Does that mean that there is like, a 'timeline' where Krux and Acronix actually kill the elemental masters and rule Ninjago? Because I mean, the rest of the ninja team saw how the future changes, that means that the 40 years from the time twins' perspective already happened, meaning that not even Kai and Nya were able to stop them during those 40 years and had to be stuck in that time until they grew older(unless they also got killed). You know what I mean??? Probably not but it's the thought that counts. I've been thinking a lot about this, and Ninjago itself doesn't help bc time is a complex subject in it plus the whole time travel thing didn't really make sense to me- so... Is it possible that in a different timeline or something, Krux and Acronix manage to kill all the masters and are just chilling as emperors? Or am I just stupidly obsessed with the time twins(yes)

rewatching connor’s wedding for the millionth time (i am unwell, yes) and roman firing gerri is just always such a fucking scene oh my god!!

like first of all, how quickly it all unravels the moment he actually speaks to her, because as he says, he goes weird with her and!!! this time it is reasonable! because they haven’t spoken in, what? 4 months? and they left off in such a fucked up state and never talked about the dickpics or the betrayal or anything, and now he’s supposed to just fire her? at connor’s wedding? like the levels of absurdity are unprecedented.

then the actual conversation is so well constructed, because roman tries so hard not to look at her since he knows she has fucking superpowers and can read him like he’s a shampoo bottle and she’s bored on the toilet, but she doesn’t let him off the hook either, because she does have superpowers and knows he can’t hide from her, and yeah, she also hasn’t gotten to talk with him since italy and maybe she expected this conversation to go differently, and maybe she had prepared herself for, i don’t know, anything else than this.

and as soon as he gets it out of himself, that she’s done and dead and goodbye, her face just shifts (the fucking acting here oh my god) and it just becomes so fucking clear that this hurts her so much, and there’s nothing she can do. like it’s insane. he tells her she can go legal but they’ll silence her with money, and maybe i’m a bit too familiar now with J’s many expressions when she’s Feeling Things and Acting Them Out (turns out she cries a lot in her roles), but she’s very good at the whole ”look like you’re just about to cry, but are being so very brave about it” and it’s absolutely conveyed in this scene as well.

roman is so helpless too, because she’s emotionally stronger and more intelligent than him and he’s made her go quiet and deadly, but also you can see it in her eyes that she’s not OK but she’s handling it, and i’m sure his balls burrowed themselves right up in his fucking chest because four (4) months (!!!) of not talking to each other, and when they do he fires her and makes her put her fucking guard up and it’s so unfair, because yeah, he chose logan and fucking chose to do this to her but it’s like it doesn’t even register to him until after it’s done and he realizes that yeah, he just broke something so unbelievably badly between them and there’s no way to fix it but if only he’d held off until tom would call him again and their day would get just so much worse, but then they could’ve had an actual conversation, after, and maybe even resolved some shit and this might have all been just a bit better, in the end.

Currently Watching: I could be like the cool kids because I, too, have watched Taskmaster recently and 8 out of 10 Cats Does Countdown once upon a time. However, in between new episodes of Doctor Who and rewatching Frasier and Golden Girls for the millionth time, I have been rewatching the animated series for Hercules. It's so fun, and I'm even re-rewatching some eps. Some of the jokes are just sooooo up my alley. In one episode, a delivery man asks for a "Heracles" and Hercules replies "It's pronounced Hercules." And when I say I HOWLED. Yes, at this children's cartoon. But I do laugh a lot. ANYWAY!

Rewatching entertainment district for the millionth time. I always laugh at the whole "I am a god. You three are trash" like, that was so unhinged😂but, imagine the Hashira, Inosuke, Zenitsu and Tanjirou are hanging out, and somehow it gets to that again and Tengen is like "well it's true. We really are like gods. No?" He shrugs, looking to the others. Some roll their eyes, like Shinobu, Sanemi and Iguro. Some laugh like Mitsuri and Rengoku. And some downright blank face, such as Giyuu, Muichiro and Gyomei. But, Tanjirou laughs. He's picked up on how the Hashira talk now...though he doesn't fully understand it's actually flirting. So, without thought he says-

"Oh? Should I get on my knees and pray then?" With a cheeky smile. Zenitsu legit gasps and falls back, and Inosuke chokes on his food. The Hashira? Well, that image is a little too good. Also, Tanjirou is flirting with them? It's even worse when Tanjirou doesnt notice the reactions, and continues by saying- "Though maybe you guys would look better on your knees." And shrug. Zenitsu? Dead. Inosuke? Shook. The Hashira? Stopped breathing. Tanjirou? He doesn't even mean to sound flirty or know he sounds flirty. He just remembers hearing responses sort of like this between other slayers when joking, and he sees how the Hashira "joke" with him (they are not though...) He tilts his head when no one laughs. Did they not get the joke? Hmmmmm....

After they scare Tanjirou by bleeding through their noses and acting like they have concussions (yes, they're very flustered and can barely say a few coherent words because their minds are too busy with those two images sweet, innocent Tanjirou put in their heads) they actually kneel in front of the sunshine.

Zenitsu decides that enough is enough and takes Inosuke with him back inside the mansion because he can't stand it anymore.

"Wait, I was just joking..."

"A kiss?" Mitsuri pleads then, she's being serious this time and Tanjirou can't say no to a friend.

So Tanjirou walks towards them, feeling shy and very flustered because they all keep staring at him like he's... precious.

He goes to Gyomei first and is very careful when he cradles his face in his hands before giving him a kiss on the forehead.

He does the same with the others, who don't move (although Kyojuro is almost vibrating with excitement) waiting for him to kiss them too.

Tanjirou enjoys giving them physical affection even though he feels like something shifted between him and the Pillars that day.

It becomes a routine after that. Whenever they're in the butterfly estate, they kneel in front of Tanjirou (and they give a couple of newbies a heart attack in the process) and wait for him to cup their faces and give them a few kisses.

"So you're basically their god now..."

"Of course not, Zenitsu!"

"Okay... But at least you know now they're in love with you, right? Because come on!"

"We're friends. There's nothing wrong with giving physical affection to my friends..."

"Of course it's not wrong, but not like THAT! I mean you have to admit that's a little bit kinky–"

Tanjirou has to put a hand over Zenitsu's mouth because there are more slayers around and he doesn't want that to reach the hashira's ears.

Obviously his friend doesn't know what he's talking about.

Moonlight rewatch for millionth time

Episode 4 random thoughts and feelings I had while rewatching again: cause I’m bored and have nothing else to do or watch. And I love this show

“When it’s Beth calling I always pick up.” Mick’s such a softie

Also a week has passed by since episode 3

“Probably wouldn’t use that term today if I was you [in reference to graveyard shift]” Mick is unintentionally sassy sometimes like I know he’s being genuine with that, but it comes off as a little bit sassy

Beth to Mick: “You’re a delicate flower Mick St. John” me whispers “yes he is”

I know it’s acting but I love how Beth and Mick look at each other

“Seems like he can get the jump on just about anyone” 🫤 okay like what’s that supposed to mean?

That dirty DA must have been so relieved that there was a phone call from that cop, Colden’s phone to Amir’s phone that must have been the biggest break he was hoping and praying for

Mick’s always so soft and gentle with people, with Ilene when she comes to him for help, when he’s rescuing Julia from Lee Jay, with Leni when he’s trying to convince her to come back to L.A with him, how he treats Audrey, his brief time with Tierney to name a few and it’s so annoying he calls himself a monster like a person who is truly awful doesn’t constantly worry that they’re a bad person nor are they gentle with others.

I know Beth was blaming herself and Josh for those brief moments that she thought Mick was dead. Like I think Josh took it as a you think I’m capable of doing something illegal like that but I think Beth’s anger towards him was more like you forced me to bring him on this case so we’re/you’re de facto responsible for his death

I like that they sprinkle in little tidbits of Mick’s human life like mentioning he survived the “Battle of the Bulge” (which took place between 16 December 1944 – 28 January 1945) in this episode then bring up other parts of WWII he was a part of like he was a medic when he’s helping Josh, or that he was on the queen Mary during her time as a war ship in the episode Click, and everything that took place in episode 15

I know this is a serious moment and Mick’s on deaths door but what random ass “motel hell” in the middle of nowhere has a mini bar? I feel like that’s the last thing they’d have but I don’t travel much or very rarely out of my state so what do I know?

Beth once again dropping everything to help save Mick

I feel like some of Mick’s shame and guilt are sometimes deeply ingrained religious trauma in a way. Like he’s always apologizing and feeling guilty for something. but whether or not he considers religion bad or not, is something different. He at least seems to have positive feelings about going to church every Sunday with his parents.

Idk though he just has like that stereotypical Catholic guilt thing to him. I say Catholic guilt because he’s been to confession before as we see in episode 12:04 AM and confession (I think) is primarily a catholic thing

I love Alex’s acting when he thinks he hurt Leni, the poor man is shaking and looks like a mess and you can see the shame in his body language and eyes.

I love how much Beth trusts Mick to offer up her blood to save him. Like he think he’s a monster and he’s going to hurt her some day but she knows he’s not and he’s just screaming at her to get out because he’s so ashamed of what he is and he can’t even look at her at some points

And Beth’s like I’m trying to save you damn it! You’re not a monster

“Not your blood! not like this!” I still can’t get over this line, it’s very brief and isn’t really touched upon in later episodes well at least in so many words but it’s very telling about Mick’s character. Josef later teases Mick that he’s a romantic in the abstract but when it comes to the reality of fang on flesh he’s a bit more… Mick cuts him off but I think Josef may have said something like aloof (maybe? Idk if that makes sense) I think Mick either wants to be completely separated from the person who’s blood he’s drinking or it has to be something very special.

He’s had a few freshies but we only see one, a redhead in the second episode and I would say the encounter is very formal despite the intimate nature of feeding someone your blood. Then in Episode 16, after he’s drinking Simone’s blood he says it’s not a big deal and they weren’t making out. Which is a very interesting comparison because making out is itself an intimate act.

So Mick probably had some romantic fantasy built up in his mind of how something like that would have happened with Beth.

I know Mick probably thought Beth would never want to see him again but I think a part of him really hoped and wanted to see her again. Like when she knocks on his door he perks up a little bit like a puppy or kitten with their owner returning home.

Okay so I'm seeing Aaron Tveit on broadway next month which has reawakened my love for him and inspired me to rewatch everything he's in (for like the millionth time) and I was wondering if you've seen "Undrafted" there's no physical whump in it (there is a fight but he doesn't participate) but there's a decent amount of emotional whump. Our boy is sad and defeated for the first solid chunk of the movie.

It's not a spectacular movie by any means, but it has a surprisingly stacked cast (including Manny Montana), and it's a pretty cute story and kinda funny.

Okay first of all I am deeply jealous that are going to see him live in Moulin Rouge!!! SO JEALOUS!!! I hope you have an amazing time!!!! It's killing me that I can't afford to see him!!! I did manage to score tickets to his concert in Erie this May though and I am so freaking excited I'm gonna die.

Anyways YES! I have seen Undrafted and I loved it!!! It was a good movie! I loved that both Aaron and Manny were in it together after doing Gracleand together. And then throw in Tyler Hoechlin and Joe Mazzello and you've got a great movie. I enjoyed sad and dejected Aaron very much lol. I love sports movies (and anime) and weird teams so this movie was perfect lol
