The Allure of Defiance

I could not tell you what it is about my hair that is bothering me but something definitely is. I am definitely preferring a more masculine length and style but it’s other people’s comments. I get comments like “oh but I really like your hair like this”. Like it’s really positive and supposed to be a compliment. However; Gender. It becomes more complicated when I’ve not even had a chance to think about booking a hair appointment to sort it (yes I have taken matters into my own hands and cut it myself). I can do basic hair maintenance but with my job I have to remain a level of professional, so I can’t get too experimental. And it takes a lot more effort to maintain short hair, I’m -as of now- not willing to go to a barbers. The point though is, every comment about my hair is someone saying I should grow it out, or I say “I really need a hair cut, it’s getting too long” and their response is ALWAYS “oh but it’s nice”.

Does nobody actually care how I feel about my own appearance??? This is rhetorical. I do have friends who care, they just aren’t the ones constantly talking about how much nicer my hair would be if it were long.
