Green Ninja & Jade Princess
Tumblr media
Among the Elemental Alliance, one member stands out for being "down to earth" and marketing herself to the people of Ninjago City. The Green Ninja, Master of Flora. This member's popularity would lead to a particular interest from Lloyd among his fascination with the Elemental Alliance, never knowing that the identity of his hero is his own mother.
Tumblr media
Rambunctious, cocky, and with the mouth of a sailor that she miraculously keeps out of her public image, Koko is the youngest member of the Elemental Alliance, and thus is treated almost exclusively like a rookie. Acronix, Left hand of Time, in particular often gets stuck with her, turning eventually into a begrudging friendship. While Acronix admits that Misako has grown close to him, he also says that Koko doesn't really know him.
Tumblr media
Around the same time-frame, Master Wu, Son of the First Spinjitzu Master, and leader of the Elemental Alliance, discovered a starving orphan girl who had broken into the Monastery of Spinjitzu desperately in search of something to placate her hunger. Motivated partly by kindness, partly by pity, and partly in envy of other child-bearing families across Ninjago city, the sensei adopted the young girl, and named her Harumi, treating her like Royalty and giving her the title "The Jade Princess" after her birth-stone.
Years would pass and the girl would grow increasingly close to Misako, almost seeing the Green Ninja as an older sister. (A bad influence that everyone else in the Elemental Alliance were eager to point out.) Desiring to imitate Koko and the others, and eager to help protect NInjago city, Harumi trained under Koko and believed herself to be ready to unlock her elemental power.
Tumblr media
Unfortunately, elemental powers do not come to everyone. And after many increasingly dangerous attempts at unlocking such a power, A tipping point was reached when Koko began to shut Harumi out, believing that she truly was a bad influence that would only hurt Harumi in the end. Hurt that her closest friend would abandon her like that, and even more angry that her adoptive father seemed to agree with such a course of action, Harumi ran away from the Monastery, vowing to achieve her elemental powers no matter what stands in her way.
Man, I really have been holding back on the content, haven't I?
I've been really busy for the last few months and as a result all of the development I've made hasn't even made it past the thought stage. (Although the Full Story Outline document was never any semblance of complete since I first made it.)
Initially I was going to wait way longer to reveal Harumi's role in the story, (Although only about a 4th of it has been revealed thus far,) but I had the idea of making Koko a previous Green Ninja based on how she was the Lady Iron Dragon in the Ninjago Movie, and I knew that was the kind of idea that should be got out of the way early, and one thing led to another, and in fleshing out Koko's doodles I ended up finally making a reference for Harumi, and figured this wasn't a bad time to do her official reveal.

I've only interacted with the fandom (ig, twt, tumblr, bits of yt) since ~may 2023, so not very long but one of the first things i remember noticing is the sheer negativity that came up when someone suggested somewhere that morro could come back (pre drs1pt1 release). Always that "ugh, he's dead and BORING" comment appearing amongst other morro hate (and some people even saying that characters like nadakhan and harumi would be better to bring back (but those people don't consider crystalized to be canon/to exist because 'it's so bad and ruined every character ever and got so much wrong about the lore'. yes some of my initial harumi dislike may actually come from seeing comments like this).
I was.. and still am doubtful of the 'leak' about morro. Yes, he's chosen not to live in possession and in dotd but a little cameo, even in the background wouldn't hurt anyone. You can still do things with him, even if it's just a single episode and then we never see him again. No character is ever truly done, especially when you consider how many come back in ninjago. There's always the possibility- like, the mechanic made it back for the mech shorts, too, why not morro for an episode? He would be a character we already know and when the ninja explore the merged lands and discover the departed or cursed 'realms' he could be someone they meet. He could apologize for possessing Lloyd and everything he did (he never outright apologized to the ninja!) and they could leave things on neutral terms by the end of the episode.
I am genuinely saddened when I see someone shutting down someone else's excitement about stuff like this because.. it's a fictional character. He can't hurt you if he comes back in the show you watch :( I'm not a psychologist or anything like that but I'm old enough by now to notice that people like this may have some issues, either with themselves or their situation irl and their frustrations often end up voiced in situations like this when he pot boils over. I don't think there's an outright hate movement against morro or anyone in ninjago (that'd be genuinely insane and worrying) but more a case of people not having been taught how to regulate their emotions or how to keep things to themselves sometimes.
Now i mentioned it already but idc. If harumi came back in dr, would i dislike it? No. Would i dunk on people who want that? No. "But you don't like her!!1!" Yeah. But that's *my* problem and *my* opinion. I don't feel too comfortable with her but I'm slowly warming up to enjoying content with her (like.. painfully slow but i had one short, very vague idea about her in like may or june this year). Sure i don't like the spider-theme she has (severe arachnophobia for the.. not-win) and yeah that s9 scene with garmadon makes me sosososoososoooo uncomfortable and makes my skin crawl but going around and bashing people and their art, writing or other canon/au ideas and stuff would only make *me* an ass and not make me like or tolerate the character more. It does nothing except ruin someone else's day. It's stupid and useless and I think this fandom needs to learn that.
Whatever platform the fandom is on obviously influences the behavior of people when they open a different platform (like mainly consuming ninjago content on tiktok during the day and then for a few minutes a day consuming ninjago content on tumblr)
okay, so I've seen this sentiment floating around with Morro that there's nothing more to do with him or that his story is entirely done. I disagree and want to share my two cents, but first I want to clarify a couple things. A) he does not have to come back to be a good and worthwhile character and B) I do not think the current conclusion to his character is bad. His story as is, is a tragedy and that's meaningful and C) that I am not trusting unreliable leak sources or 'getting my hopes up'.
Anyways, to say there's nothing to be done with his character is completely wild, and in my opinion a take more formed from fandom negative association than anything based in canon. I think it links back to some people seeing him as irredeemable, or believing without question his 'you can only save those who want to be saved' line. I said it before, but that line doesn't hurt because it's true (you wouldn't believe that with any other characters, why just him?) Morro has a compelling story, and it ends on the note that he can change and right his wrongs (dotd). His conclusion in Possession is sad but good, and his ending in DOTD is at least okay, in my opinion. However, when a character shows clear ability to change and develop, how in the world does that not lend itself to being able to continue his story? He doesn't have to come back, but if he did, there's material to play with. Morro died willingly, in the end, in Possession. I don't understand this idea that it has to cathartic for everyone. What's the crime in someone saying they would be excited or happy to see him again? There's directions to take his story in, and it's not like he's ever going to be anything like a main or strong presence in the show if he ever did come back! Not even the original six ninja are that anymore!
I'm going out on a limb and saying all the people who say Morro shouldn't come back for reasons [x] [y] [z] are going to be the same people who dislike he takes that Harumi shouldn't come back in DR, right? Is it because people think she's irredeemable, or that her story is 'better left done' and it'd be 'bad writing' to bring her back? Be bad for Lloyd? That's what a lot of you sound like to me. Additionally, you're allowed to have your own opinions, obviously but it's getting frustrating to see posts asking people to be less mean about the idea of him coming back filled with tags that go 'and here's why I think he shouldn't come back--' or two mutuals of mine both express the sentiment of pulling back a little from the fandom because of the recent negativity towards Morro. To be honest, sometimes it feels like a lot of people just groan whenever he's mentioned at all (because of the aforementioned fandom negative association) which, that's obviously going to be discouraging and un-motivating for people who do post a lot about him! Anyways, point is, be nicer and also stop characterizing him because it's cool now or whatever 👍

EVEN MORE Small Facts/Details About Ninjago Characters
> Day of the Departed is Nya's favorite holiday
> Lloyd isn't usually one to snark or be cold towards people, but if you do him dirty he will verbally eviscerate you. He did this to Harumi, Garmadon, and Akita after feeling betrayed or hurt by them.
> Cake isnt the only thing Cole likes. He also likes chocolate-covered shell peas!
> Jay really likes cotton candy! he's seen eating it during Lloyd's trivia game in "Child's Play" as well as after stopping Lloyd in "Rise of the Snakes."
> While Kai isn't very good at skating, he is good at sledding.
> Lloyd's animal symbol was an ouroboros serpent until he became the golden ninja. Now it’s a dragon.
> Cole tends to cross his arms.
> Ninjago's version of Instagram and Facebook merge together, and the site is called "InstaBook.' Twitter on the other hand is called 'Chirper.' Kai's handle on Chirper is @ Fi-Ya13 (Yes, it's pronounced how you think it is. Bonus fact: Kai is a professional dork.)
> Cyrus likes talking about technology and the work he makes, even in the presence of people he doesn't necessarily like. He was very proud to announce the features of the BorgWatch after Krux dismissed the device.
> Cole is a nervous eater, and Ronin called him out on this.
> Nya and Zane are the only Ninja who have never been shirtless at any point in the series. On the other hand, Jay has straight up been naked on-screen before. (And... hit a dude with a towel while he has naked.)
> Zane's speech pattern tends to be more formal than his fellow Ninja's. He doesn't use slang, idioms, or contractions very often. The other nindroids tend to be the same way.
> Wu's beard got a lot longer after being hit with the Time Punch. Seriously, it basically dragged on the ground.
> Cole is a very skilled artist. Specifically, he likes making traditional paintings.
> The last time we saw Zane's falcon was season eight.
> Jay.. does not have a very expansive vocabulary. He wasn’t exactly sure what 'bequeathed' or 'temporal' meant.
> Skylor has appeared in every season since her debut. The only exceptions are season 8 and season 11.
> Ronin's eyepatch has thermal vision and can scope out ghosts. Pretty handy if you owe a very dangerous ghost a large debt, no? ((This also implies that Ronin likely isn't blind in his right eye.))
> Ever wonder what happened in the aftermath of Skybound?? No?? Well according to The Dark Island Trilogy, Nadakhan's crew is actually currently in Kyptarium Prison, while Clouse is trapped in the Underworld.
> Acronix's favorite modern invention is the BorgWatch. Likewise, Krux hates BorgPads the most.
> Acronix says he has followers on InstaBook. How many or who these followers are is unknown.
> During DotD, Morro and Pythor's statues are opposite side of the other villains'. This could be possible a representation of how Morro and Pythor got redemption arcs while the others did not. (even tho Pythor's redemption arc was a psuedo arc, he was still considered 'redeemed' until that point)
> Fangtom and Skalidor's names are never mentioned in canon; whereas Pythor, Skales, and Acidicus are all mentioned by name at least once.
> The spider song Harumi sings is actually a lullaby Hutchins taught her. Ironically, she found it pretty creepy as a child.
> Harumi likes lots of garlic in her noodles, but wasn’t really allowed to have garlic often due to her parents believing that princesses 'are not allowed to have bad breath.'
> Harumi also likes ice cream and cats!
> Pythor has happily taken pictures with a family visiting the amusement park, and only seemed to hate it after the flash went off.
> Acronix likes taking pictures. This includes selfies.
> After being bleached, Pythor's eyes shift in and out of being pink and red. Whether this is an animation error or there's an actual reason for this is unknown to me.
> Harumi has zero clue where Mr. E came from. He just kinda... appeared.
> Nonetheless, Harumi was soft for Mr. E. She tried to reason with Garmadon to prevent him from being murdered, and looked legitimately hurt when she was unsuccessful.
> There's a particular scene where Morro walks into a bar, and he seemed to get a nostalgic kick out of being there. As if he's visited it many times before when he was still alive.
> Pythor prefers to lead armies with perfectly concocted plans rather than directly fight his enemies. If he has to directly fight, he's either gonna pull a trick out of his sleeve or he's gonna end up running away.
> Morro is one of the only ghost warriors we see whose never seen with a tail. (Unless you wanna count the time he possessed Bansha)
> While Chen is ultimately a selfish asshole, he did stick up for Skylor after Clouse made a snide remark about her betrayal.
> Pythor is extremely lonely, going so far as becoming friends with inanimate objects in order to fill the void. He even questions why Lloyd would run away from making friends, saying that 'everybody needs friends, even tyrants,'
> Chen, Clouse, Skylor, and Garmadon are the only cultists without tattoos on their faces. Likewise, they're the only cultists who keep their regular humanoid heads after the transformation spell is complete. (Well aside from Clouse, since he never became an Anacondrai in the first place.)
> Hutchins was more aware of Harumi’s problems than the Emperor and Empress. It’s also implied Hutchins was growing suspicious of Harumi’s plans.
> We don't have much to go off of, but it's subtly implied that Morro was very curious as a child. This seems to carry over as an adult, as he can be seen assessing situations and acting quickly based on these assessments. (For example, he was the one to figure out Yang was likely the culprit that brought everybody back to life during DotD while all the other villains were still bantering with each other. He was also able to figure out how to use the Sword of Sanctuary fairly quickly through mere study.)
> Morro almost always has an eyebrow raised. Seriously, between his smug nature and his curious nature, his eyebrows never even out.
> Cryptor laughs... a lot. Like that's literally half his dialogue. At least he's having a good time!
> Morro had his green hairstripe before he was adopted by Wu.
