Mira dari Miles Films sedang mengisahkan latar belakang terjalinnya kerja sama mengadaptasi Sunny, sebuah film drama komedi asal Korea Selatan yang aslinya rilis 4 Mei 2011.

CJ Entertaiment adalah rumah produksi --juga distributor dan ekshibitor-- asal Korsel yang memegang hak publikasi film tersebut.

Disutradarai Kang Hyeong-cheol, kini 45 tahun, film Sunny mengisahkan tujuh siswi yang tergabung dalam satu geng di sekolah menengah atas khusus perempuan.

Geng yang kemudian mereka beri nama Sunny --dari judul lagu kelompok Boney M-- beranggotakan Chun-hwa, Jang-mi, Jin-hee, Geum-ok, Bok-hee, Su-ji, dan Na-mi sang murid baru.

MD Pictures memilih menggarap kembali Whispering Corridors yang bergenre horor menjadi Sunyi. Rilis dijadwalkan 11 April 2019.

Terpilihnya Miles sebagai mitra ketiga CJ dalam mengadaptasi film asal negeri gingseng telah melalui proses diskusi selama dua tahun.

Pun demikian, seperti dituturkan Riri, proses kerja sama mereka justru tidak seribet yang terbayangkan sebelumnya.

“Cukup simpel. Mulai dari proses pemilihan hak cerita, itu cepat selesai. Cuma memang ada hal-hal yang baru bagi kami, semisal kontraknya yang berbahasa Inggris,” jelas Riri.

Pihak CJ juga memberikan kebebasan kepada Mira dan Riri yang dibantu Gina S. Noer dalam menulis skenario agar terasa lebih sesuai dengan kultur Indonesia.

Sejumlah perubahan yang terjadi dalam Bebas, antara lain bagian latar cerita masa lalu yang bukan mengambil dekade 80-an melainkan 90-an.

Tokoh-tokoh kunci juga tidak digambarkan berasal dari sekolah khusus perempuan, tapi sekolah campur.

Faktor tersebut membuat komposisi anggota geng dalam film ini berubah, ada lima cewek dan satu cowok.

Alasan perubahan komposisi menurut Mira karena Jakarta pada era 90-an masih sangat terbatas sekolah khusus perempuan. “Kita lebih terbiasa sekolah di sekolah campur, entah itu negeri atau swasta,” jelasnya.

Kebebasan menyesuaikan cerita dengan kultur Indonesia juga terjadi saat MD mengadaptasi Whispering Corridors.

“Saya enggak mau rewel perubahannya apa saja. Satu contoh, kalau di sana pemeran utamanya perempuan, di sini kami ganti jadi laki-laki,” ungkap produser Manoj Punjabi perihal lisensi kreatif yang mereka dapatkan dari CJ dalam jumpa pers di MD Place, Jakarta Selatan (12/2).

Pihak CJ Entertainment paham bahwa unsur kelokalan sangat penting ditonjolkan dalam sebuah film untuk mendekatkannya dengan penonton.

Faktor tersebut yang selalu mereka minta kepada sineas yang mengadaptasi film-film mereka.

“Saat kami mencari mitra yang tepat untuk menggarap kembali Sunny, tidak ada pilihan yang lebih tepat selain Miles Films,” ungkap Justin Kim, Producer for International Film Projects di CJ Entertainment.

Penggemar film Laskar Pelangi dan AAdC buatan Miles itu melanjutkan, pihaknya yakin betul dengan kapasitas Mira dkk. memberikan muatan lokal yang tepat untuk adaptasi ini sehingga bisa berinteraksi sepenuh hati dengan penonton Indonesia.

Mira yang mendapat sanjungan tak kalah percaya diri. “Waktu pertama menonton Sunny, saya sudah yakin ini bisa banget diadaptasi menjadi versi Indonesia. Dan kalau mau diproduksi, yang paling tepat mengerjakan adalah kami. Untungnya mereka juga merasakan hal yang sama,” tegas kakak musikus Indra Lesmana itu.

Industri perfilman Indonesia empat tahun terakhir memang semakin menggeliat. Indikasi paling kentara terlihat dari jumlah penonton bioskop yang terus meningkat.

Jika pada 2015 total penjualan tiket bioskop ada pada kisaran 16 juta lembar, maka jumlah tersebut meningkat jadi 50 juta tiket lebih kurun 2018.

Dituturkan Rance Pow dari Artisan Gateway (h/t Jakarta Globe), industri perfilman Indonesia sepanjang 2018 menghasilkan AS$355 juta. Meningkat 2,8 persen dari catatan tahun sebelumnya yang mencetak AS$345 juta.

Indonesia kemudian menjadi negara dengan pasar terbesar ke-15 di dunia dan keenam terbesar di Asia Pasifik.

Dengan tambahan fakta jumlah penduduk melebihi 270 juta jiwa, yang berarti potensi pasarnya masih bisa terus berkembang, para investor asing semakin tertarik melirik industri ini.

Terlebih sejak pemerintah membuka Daftar Negatif Investasi dari sektor perfilman pada 2015.

Salah satu yang langsung memanfaatkan kesempatan tersebut adalah CJ Entertainment, perusahaan hiburan raksasa yang merupakan bagian dari CJ Group.

Langkah pertama yang mereka lakukan adalah menyokong produksi dan turut mengedarkan film A Copy of My Mind arahan Joko Anwar.

Hingga tahun ini, CJ Entertainment sudah bekerja sama dengan sejumlah rumah produksi di Tanah Air memproduksi sembilan film Indonesia, tiga di antaranya merupakan adaptasi film Korea.

Langkah tersebut sebenarnya ditetapkan CJ Entertainment sejak dua tahun silam untuk merespons kondisi pasar dalam negeri mereka.

“Pasar domestik (Korea) telah sangat jenuh dalam beberapa tahun terakhir. Mengembangkan pasar luar negeri pada akhirnya bukan lagi sebuah pilihan, tapi suatu keharusan,” kata Jeong Tae-sung, CEO CJ Entertainment, dilansir Variety.

Indonesia bukan pasar asing bagi produk-produk budaya populer asal negeri tersebut. Demam drama Korea alias drakor sudah melanda masyarakat Tanah Air sejak Trans TV mulai menayangkan serial Mother Sea pada 2002 silam.

Langkah tersebut kemudian diikuti stasiun televisi lainnya, seperti Indosiar, RCTI, SCTV, B Channel (kini Rajawali TV), dan Trans 7.

Sambutan terhadap film-film asal Korea juga tak kalah gempita. Berhubung film-film produksi CJ yang kemudian diadaptasi sineas kita masuk kategori box office, meraih minat penonton dengan cepat bisa terjadi.

Akun Twitter dan Instagram Miles Films seketika kebanjiran testimoni dari mereka yang sudah menonton versi aslinya.

Mayoritas mengaku sudah tidak sabar menanti seperti apa versi adaptasi Indonesia film tersebut.

Riri menyambut terbuka adanya proyek mengadaptasi film-film luar negeri seperti ini. Sebab ada dua faktor yang membuat prosesnya menarik.

Hal pertama terkait efisiensi waktu. “Biasanya waktu pengembangan cerita di Miles Films bisa 1,5 tahun sampai 2 tahun. Dengan adanya model seperti ini kami bisa memangkas waktu tersebut jadi 8 bulan karena pondasi ceritanya sudah ada,” jelas Riri.

Faktor kedua, ada tantangan lain ketika harus menulis ulang karakter dan perjalanan hidup tokoh-tokoh dalam sebuah film yang sudah punya skrip kuat.

Harapan Riri, pada masa mendatang tiba giliran film-film orisinal Indonesia yang diadaptasi oleh rumah produksi atau studio dari mancanegara.

Mengingat sepak terjang sejumlah film Indonesia yang mendapatkan atensi warga global; Marlina Si Pembunuh dalam Empat Babak, Pengabdi Setan, dan The Night Comes for Us untuk menyebut beberapa, harapan Riri bukan pepesan kosong.
