Tonight my little teenage echo knight signed up to fight a giant croc in a marsh town for fun and (accidental) profit and it was. Certainly a chain of events.

Yen sets up, gets the echo ready and all

Croc jumps out of the water at him and its bite attack crits. Yen is immediately knocked unconscious

The cleric and the warlock (watching from the stands) do some long-range healing, enough to get him back up to full

Yen manages to not get eaten immediately, brings the echo back and uses it to teleport out of the croc's mouth

Proceeds to wail on this thing, I love how many attacks fighters get it's stupid and amazing

The warlock puts a hex on the croc that takes 4hp from it every round. Nice.

Yen gets one more boost of healing word from the cleric (from 3hp to 10!)

The croc hits again. Knocks him down. Immediately is killed by the hex bc it had 2hp left.

Yen won I guess???

8: what are three songs that suit them? Seven - Sleeping at Last Roots - Swingin’ Hammers No Instructions - The Happy Fits

43: why do they fight? The simple answer is because he genuinely thinks it is Very Fun. Some of that is leftover from his previous life, but he’s good at fighting and he enjoys the adrenaline rush and it’s fun. Especially lately, when it’s very easy to underestimate this little halfling kid with an axe nearly as tall as he is, right up until the echo appears behind you. The less simple answer...I mean this is always what he’s done. For over a thousand years at this point. Varak was a soldier before they even had a country to have a military for. He fought to get his people a decent home, he fought to keep that home safe, he fought to let them slowly start to spread out into a very unfamiliar country. And then they started making enemies and he fought to keep those people from ruining what the Dynasty had worked so hard to build. It’s always been about protecting his people and his country, and that’s gotten a tiny bit more complicated now that this particular life kind of. Grew up in the neighboring country that his previous self hated. But either way, he’s still a fighter (mechanically and narratively) and that’s what he’s good at and that’s how he looks after the people he cares about.

58: what do they think their role in the party is? what is their role in actuality? Yen’s pretty self-aware, I don’t think the two are very far removed; he’s the tank, mostly. He’s the one who can be up close and personal with things they’re fighting and take a lot of hits in the process. He’s quick and strong for his size and he is the fighter. Outside of combat...he does see himself as the kid from the little podunk town who still doesn’t entirely know what’s going on. The memories are back but he’s still a teenager and he’s kind of making a lot up as they go. And that isn’t entirely inaccurate but Yen is also like.....he’s the one who wants to trust everyone they meet, and is constantly determined to see the good in people, and even if it hasn’t come up yet for the party specifically, he is a very experienced military leader on top of all that. Not much in the way of a definitive answer for this one fjkdsl but y’know. He’s still trying to figure this out himself.

26. imagine your character is in a room with the person they hate the most (dead or alive) and aware that neither of them can be put in any physical danger. what would they say to them? Vic: Everdin is complicated, see, because on one hand he was legitimately doing his job. On the other hand his little fetch quest nearly killed most of the party and did kill one of them briefly. They nearly died with the house, and Everdin wasn’t even aware they had that, and was he trying to just get rid of the problem? He’d want answers the guy probably couldn’t even give, answers about why everything surround Ilharess’s death seems just a little off, how no one found that empire experiment if they knew where the worm nests were, so many things. And with that 10 charisma combined with decidedly Hating Everdin Theylss, it wouldn’t be particularly well-spoken.

Yen: I straight up...don’t know who he hates the most. Like this lifetime he hasn’t really made any enemies that he’s aware of, he’s just a teenager. I’m sure there are some people in the court or the noble families that Varak has grudges against, but none that I’ve really fleshed out at this point fjdksl

28. what animal do you associate with your character? Vic: not even because of him specifically, but his familiar is an otter so. otters go with Vic now.

Yen: Gators. He’s a swamp boy and he loves any opportunity to fight a gator.

37. if you could give your character one piece of advice, what would you tell them? Vic: Take a breath. A lot of bad shit has happened in a very short period of time and you have to let yourself feel the bad things that come with it, not just squash them down where they’re gonna get even worse. Open up to your friends, no one’s expecting anyone to come through all of this perfectly fine.

Yen: Enjoy this weird little in-between period, when all the memories are back but the responsibilities haven’t quite followed yet. Take advantage of the fact that there aren’t piles of paperwork and get those new experiences that consecution is meant to give. And be wary of deals with fey.

21. if you were stuck in an elevator with your character, how wld that go? tbh I think I’d get along best with Yen out of all of my kids, like. Find one (1) thing we’ve got in common and there could be conversation for a Long Time. I’m used to teenage energy, I think we’d Vibe.

24. how do they cry? what does it look like? Ironically, considering everything else about him, pretty quietly. He doesn’t usually try to hide it or anything but it isn’t really super noticeable right away either.

27. who was the first person your character ever trusted (outside of family)? On a surface level,,, Everyone, the kid has always had a very easy time trusting people immediately, whether they deserve it or not. In a deeper sense tho, probably the crownsguard who started training him to fight. Ty has always been super supportive and also super willing to knock him down a few times if it helps him learn a move better. There was some panic when she caught up to them in Hupperdook mostly because he was terrified of seeing that Disappointed Look.

10: how often do they lie? what situations cause them to be dishonest? It’s generally either survival (his entire stretch going by Krag and decidedly not being from the Dynasty) or because one of his friends asked him to keep a secret -- and in that case he’s more likely to just avoid the topic altogether. Vic doesn’t tend to lie much, but he definitely will lie about the fact that He Is Fine.

Yen 59: what is a quiet passion of theirs? He does like writing. It’s usually just letters and very rambling but he’s finding it really helps straighten his thoughts out, especially when Everything is Happening So Much. He also loves fighting. But that’s not exactly quiet.

61: what kind of flower would they choose to pick from a meadow? Probably try to find the weirdest-looking ones and seeing if Ax knows what they are. Alternatively whichever ones are most familiar from home.

2. would your character carry around a tiny bath and body works hand sanitizer? if yes, would it have a specific scent? He wouldn’t specifically go out of his way but if someone (Someone) gave him one then sure. It would probably be some nice leafy type smell.

5. do/would your character carry lots of hair ties on their wrist? Even when his hair is longer, not likely. And there’s a little regret when it should be tied up and then he ends up using random string so it’s fine.

11. if a button came loose from your character’s shirt, would they make sure the replacement matched? There might be half a thought to, but Yen doesn’t really care that much about it. But then I’m sure Nora would insist.

20. if your character saw a turtle stuck on its back, would they flip it over? Absolutely! Even if it was one of those giant turtles in the marsh he would try

After killing a giant murderous worm, you learn that it has a baby. Does your character attempt to adopt this baby and risk being attacked by Furies who don’t want them to bring it out of the Underworld, or leave the baby worm to fend for itself? I think u mean Free Pet, Yen will fight for this new weird baby friend

Vic would probably be a giant nerd these days and just. work on the studying. (he’s really into this magic stuff now guys, let me tell you) Chat with his friends if they’re around too, but lots of free time goes to books rn.

Yen would talk to Whoever is available to talk to, stranger or otherwise. He’s pretty good at finding something to entertain himself if that isn’t an option -- maybe writing letters or the like. Hopefully no mischief. Hopefully.

Joseph would probably just read? Zone out for stretches. Try very hard not to fall asleep.

have they ever been in love? i see those eye emojis, i see them but at this point, nah, the boy’s 16. He has had multiple crushes, he has one right now, but nothing much more than that. (on the other hand YOU TELL ME, I don’t know what previous-life-Yen got up to fdjskl)

what are they attracted to in other people? Compassion. A good sense of fun. Someone that like...does appreciate his dumb jokes, but also takes his actual skills seriously (like listen, he knows he’s small compared to a lot of other people, he knows, but he’s also got a giant axe and he can use it). More recently discovered, and kind of ironic given the last point, the ability to just. Easily Lift Him. 

what is the most beautiful thing in the world, for them? Any new horizon. Even with the ridiculous circumstances around it, he’s still so excited to be Out In The World, and he adores seeing all these new places and meeting new people and every morning they pack up their little cart and start heading to yet another new place is just. The Best.

what is a quiet passion of theirs? He’s found that he genuinely loves writing. Mostly the letters he sends home but he’ll sometimes just do stream-of-consciousness almost journaling? which, considering how fast the boy’s thoughts go, is kind of a feat. It helps him sort out events and ideas and the like a lot easier.

do they value mercy or justice more? hoo boy interesting,, He follows Erathis so like. I think he’s convinced he’s all about the proper justice and whatnot, it’s rather important to a god called the Lawbearer, but. When it comes down to it, even his lawful good self would probably lean more toward mercy. He wants to believe people can be good if they’ve got the right chance!

how would they describe their party members? Coral is like. Probably the smartest person he knows, really. Not entirely clear what her powers are or where they come from, he’s not familiar with warlocks let alone celestial ones, but she can make herself look like Anyone which is super cool, and seems to know how to handle the more adult-type social situations better than most of them.

Quill is strange, but fun? Very fun. All his little magic trinkets and potions and such are confusing but super cool, and I mean just the fact that he is a cat sort of ??? Quill’s good for talking to when you want someone to like. Validate that yes, this sucks, it really does. Also has a gun now, Yen’s very excited to see what happens when he finishes fixing it.

Kit doesn’t talk very much, but she seems really sweet when she does. And is also. Very down for stealing things (almost all of them are, really). Anyone willing to sit up in a tree with him in the middle of the night while he tries to talk to some weird,,, person that may or may not travel through trees is very cool in Yen’s book. She’s also super fast! Sneaky! He is determined to find things to make her happy more!

Gemma is Very Interesting. Very snarky, sometimes difficult to tell when she’s joking or not? But she also knows a lot of things, some very obscure things sometimes (she took college courses!), and is a boss with that lyre. Seems to bounce wildly between being a voice of reason and “no wait that sounds horrible I’m in.” Which is confusing but fun?

Ax is. Ax. He’s just so nice is the thing, and usually so quiet that when he suddenly makes a joke it’s even funnier for it. It’s super cool knowing a dragonborn in general, and Ax can heal and sic bugs on bigger bugs and apparently just easily lift some of his fellow party members ?? Talking to Ax always seems to help things feel a little better. Even if those things are still weird and possibly bad, there’s just. such good vibes from that boy.

How does your OC enact plans? Do they plan down to the smallest details, or do they wing it? Vic A good majority of the time he waits for other people to make the plans -- he’s not the strategist and even if the mechanics say otherwise lately he does not think of himself as an Intelligent person. He is the guy the plans are made about, not by. If it is left to him he does make some effort to go through contingencies and backup plans and the like, and he is actually pretty decent at it, but if things start going poorly he can and will absolutely wing it.

Yen Incidentally he’s gotten. A lot better at it within the past week, what with all the memories coming back and his being a legitimately very important military leader. So that was a fun thing to learn. So now for the Most Part he’s actually good at the detailed planning, on a small and larger scale, and it is wild, but he is also y’know. still sixteen and just a tiny bit easily distracted. A little bit. He’ll shake the rust off though it’s fine, it’s fine.

What’s your OCs temper like? Are they a slow boil, or an instant explosion? Vic It had been slow, almost to the point of even Vic not noticing when he was pissed a lot of the time. And then his friends got taken and something kind of snapped and now yeah, y’know, now he literally has that rage feature. Even a lot of that is more of a steady and driven and deadly focus, but there are moments when it explodes out and he is not overly fond of them but it gets the job done so it’s fine right?

Yen He doesn’t have much of one tbh? and Yen especially hasn’t had much of a reason for any kind of serious anger to come out. If there were I feel it’d be quiet, though -- there’s been enough dealings with nobles and the types that usually find themselves in the higher positions that he knows blowing up doesn’t usually get anyone very far. It’s better to be productive with the anger, maybe a tiny bit passive aggressive, but save it for better outlets like Actual Combat. 

On a scale of 1 - 10, how ‘soft’ is your OC? 1 being the edgiest of edges and 10 being a literal teddy bear that cries at everything? (Bonus questions, where on the scale would your OC place themselves, and where would they like to be on the scale?) Vic It is so dependent on the situation, but underneath everything that’s happening and the stubborn walls he’s trying to hold up, he’s probably around a 7. Never had all that much issue expressing himself and he’s never afraid to admit how much he loves his family and his friends. Vic would probably consider himself even a little higher than that, because he thinks he should be lower -- that’d make things easier to deal with, obviously.

Yen Solid 8, nearly 9, he’s just a little guy is all. (He is the first character I’ve had readily willing to not only acknowledge romantic feelings but admit them like that’s Big.) Sometimes he’ll try to hide when he’s scared but is well aware it never works and that’s really pretty okay in the end. He loves seeing new things and meeting new people and playing dumb games with his weird friends and looking at flowers with his boyfriend (and oh my god is that what they are ?? is that what they are he should probably ask --) and he is Soft and he is aware of that. And he really wouldn’t want to change it, honestly, like he knows he’ll need to be a little more serious for some things, but that doesn’t mean having to be harder or anything.

54: How does your character feel about keeping secrets from the rest of the party? Krag At the beginning it was fine, because they were just y’know. a bunch of randos that were helping him take out some slavers. But now they’re a bunch of rando friends. And he has seen the Conflict that’s arising from secrets being kept. and it Looks Bad Todd.

Joseph Everyone’s got secrets. Even Bo, he assumes. They tell each other what’s important if it comes up, but there’s enough that they judge about him already without adding the worse bits to the pile.

Yen He isn’t even consciously keeping secrets, some things just. Haven’t really come up. He trusts the others and assumes they trust him and if they ask he’s not gonna outright lie. Secrets don’t make friends, guys.
