The Minister of State for Petroleum Resources, Sen. Heineken Lokpobiri, and the former Executive Secretary of the Nigerian Content Development Monitoring Board (NCDMB), Simbi Wabote, have disagreed over $500 million investments made during the latter’s tenure. In a statement issued by Lokpobiri on Tuesday through his media aide, Nnaemeka Okafor, the Minister said that NCDMB under the leadership of Wabote “wasted” over $500 million of the industry’s fund on equity investments, private establishments, and non-performing loans. The Minister had earlier alleged that Wabote paid $35 million for the Brass modular refinery in Bayelsa State without anything to show for it. He had also alleged that $20 million was paid for a fertilizer factory that was yet to materialize. He had claimed that approximately $350 million was transferred to the Bank of Industry by the board to provide loans to investors, asserting that the funds were mismanaged with 90% of the loans non-performing. Wabote fires back On his part, the former NCDMB boss, Simbi Wabote, had also allleged that Lokpobiri’s “reckless statements” in the past months were not new to him. He said, ”My problem as the Executive Secretary started with Lokpobiri in December 2023 when he sent one of his undocumented aides within his ministry to my office in Yenagoa (Blackson) requesting me to increase the NCDMB budget by N30bn for the office of the Minister, and I said it had never been done before.” Wabote said that he informed the oil minister that during his tenure under two previous ministers, none had ever demanded such actions from the NCDMB. He said that the board solely allocated funds for the office of the Chairman of the Council, which included coverage for his travel expenses. “I said to him that the maximum the NCDMB budget has ever got to in the past is circa N80bn for all our activities, adding N30bn will be too much for his office and I was not going to do it,” he stated. Lokpobiri’s position In Lokpobiri’s statement on Tuesday, the Minister noted that investigations are ongoing and that all funds belonging to the generality of Nigerians will be recovered. According to him, if Mr. Wabote has proof of budget padding accusations, he should provide it to the public. ”Let me add that these revelations are not new, they were first made during an investigative hearing of the House of Representatives Committee on Local Content. Again, the records are there and you are welcome to verify these facts. “The Minister has never been part of any budgeting process of any parastatal under the ministry. ‘’Secondly, the minister has no aide called Blackson. All his aides were duly selected in line with extant laws and have documents to that effect. “Thirdly, the said Atlantic Refinery was supposed to be built in Mr Wabote’s home town, he should show Nigerians where that refinery is. ‘’Fourthly, the Brass Fertilizer and Petrochemical company was also paid for. ’Finally, the Minister’s office is run with a budget superintended by the permanent secretary and so one will wonder, how the Minister will ask another entity to make provisions for the budget of his office,” the statement reads.

10 Nigerian Navy warships conclude military exercise in Gulf of Guinea
Tumblr media
10 Nigerian Navy warships conclude military exercise in the Gulf of Guinea. Following a military drill to deter criminal activity in the country's waters and the Gulf of Guinea (GoG), ten vessels of the Nigerian Navy have returned to their bases. NNS Sagbama, NNS Nwamba, NNS Ibeno, NNS Dorina, NNS Gongola, NNS Ikene, NNS Badagry, NNS Oji, NNS Ose, and NNS Okpoku are the vessels of the Nigeria Navy. Rear Adm. Umar Chugali, the flag officer commanding the Central Naval Command (CNC), told reporters that the operation known as "Exercise Sea Guardian" was a resounding success after the vessels berthed at Onne, Rivers. He said that troops took part in man overboard, gunner, fleet manoeuvres, vessel seizures, and anti-crude oil theft operations. "Emergency exercises, which include firefighting, machinery failure, steering gear breakdown, abandon and man, and cheerleading, are among the other activities. The purpose of the drill was to test and show off our ships' ability to defend the Gulf of Guinea and Nigeria's maritime borders. "Within Nigeria's maritime environment and GoG, the four-day exercise was used to highlight our readiness in tackling all forms of maritime crimes," he continued. In addition to the battleships, Chugali stated that the practice included two attack helicopters and a unit of the Navy's Special Boat Service, which is comparable to the US Navy Seals. The Flag Officer Commanding ENC, Rear Adm. Olusola Oluwagbire, remarked Soldiers from Yenagoa and Calabar, the locations of the eastern and central naval commands, participated in the drill. He claimed that the drill was a part of the Nigerian Navy's practical efforts to put an end to various crimes committed in Nigerian waterways, such as sea robbery, sea piracy, and crude oil theft. "With this drill, we're testing our capabilities and preparedness to protect the GoG and our waterways from illegal activity. Oluwagbire stated, "We are making every effort to provide the best foot (personnel) in our deployments - both in terms of personnel and assets." Nunieh Odede, Bayelsa PDP Youth Leader, Aides To Governor Diri Decamp To APC
The camp of the Bayelsa State Governor, Douye Diri, was depleted on Monday as some of his principal aides and the state youth leader of the Peoples Democratic Party, Nunieh Odede, dumped the PDP for the All Progressives Congress and its governorship candidate, Timipre Sylva. Odede announced his resignation from the PDP in a handwritten letter while the governor’s top aides formally vacated their offices to campaign for Sylva ahead of the November 11 polls. A statement signed by Sylva’s Special Adviser, Media and Publicity, Julius Bokoru, confirmed that Odede and the other defectors had held a meeting with the APC flagbearer. It listed the aides who abandoned Diri to pitch tent with Sylva as a director in the state environmental sanitation authority, Abiah Oyisor; three of the governor’s special advisers on special duties, Itu Goodluck, Timipa Ile and Olali Suwofien as well as his special representative in Yenagoa LGA, Ayaye Obuma. Odede in the meeting, said, “We have spent years with the PDP and we built the party to where it is. We must move on now in the light of what is happening in the state. “Bayelsa is in a comatose state and we cannot keep doing the old things and expect to get it right. Our resignations from the PDP, honestly, is to save our dear state from further ruin.” The statement quoted Sylva as commending Odede and others for their courage and for choosing the progress and development of the state over selfish gains. “Youths are always the driving force of every society, youths also embody and give a trajectory of what the future would look like. Your decisions today are heroic and selfless, you have placed state over self and beyond even the elections, you instil in us all that Bayelsa state is bound to do well.” It stated that they would be received at a formal defection ceremony with thousands of their supporters following their resignations from the PDP and endorsement of APC and Sylva. It said the defections had eroded the PDP governorship candidate’s chances of winning Yenagoa, the state capital, and particularly the Epie and Atissa kingdoms where Sylva was believed to be making political inroads. The statement also confirmed that recently the APC deputy governorship candidate, Joshua Maciver, received thousands of defectors from Sagbama LGA and the home of the incumbent deputy governor of the state. https://www.google.com/amp/s/punchng.com/bayelsa-pdp-youth-leader-diris-top-aides-join-apc/amp Read the full article

By • Olalekan Fagbade Ex-president; ‘I would have relocated my Mother if Governor lost his reelection’ Former President Goodluck Jonathan has said he would have relocated his mother from Bayelsa State to Abuja if Governor Douye Diri had lost his reelection bid. Jonathan said Diri’s victory means Bayelsa State will be safer with the governor’s determination to tackle insecurity. He spoke while visiting Diri in Yenagoa, the Bayelsa State capital. The former president said the gains of tackling insecurity in the state would have been lost if Diri was defeated. Jonathan said: “We don’t want to go into an unnecessary crisis in the state. Results have been declared and we believe the election was conducted. “We believe the governor won the election and we plead that people should accept it and work with the governor. Let all of us support him so that the state will move ahead. “There should be nothing that will push the state backwards. We should think about the development of the state, starting with the issue of peace and security in the state. Within this last period, three years plus, there have been significant improvements in terms of cultism, kidnapping, and so on and so forth. “I was saying before this election that if Diri lost this election, I would have relocated my mother to Abuja.”
