The Hamburg turtles are enjoying the last warm days of the year. (One of the many turtles released into Hamburg's waters. Unfortunately, there are always irresponsible animal "lovers".)

I honestly had no idea that the TMayNT thing, was actually a thing. And I totally forgot that MerMay existed (even though I do it like every year-)

So I compromised and drew some turtles playing in the water :D

It’s a bit of a reach, but if anyone in NH is looking for a turtle (6/26/24), this is a wonderful girl I have to recommend!

I’m fostering Ms. Sheldon, an 18yo yellow-bellied slider through my work. She was left behind by her previous owners, and has been through a lot, but she’s feeling & looking much better now. With that said, she deserves a wonderful place to spend the rest of her days, and I sadly am not in a place to adopt her.

i found a turtle!!! she was in a hardee's parking lot where she def does not belong!! there seems to be a lil crack on her tummy in the second pic?? i admittedly know next to nothing about turtles. but i love her and i moved her somewhere safer!!

A bale of yellow-bellies

I've learned that the turtles that hang out in Hilton Head's lagoons - and sun themselves, cheek-by-jowl, with alligators - are yellow-bellied sliders.

Obviously the name is not meant to imply a lack of courage on the part of a defenseless creature willing to sidle up to pair of jaws that could crush it like a jelly bean. (And don't think the turtle's shell would present an obstacle for those teeth).

No - yellow-bellied sliders actually have yellow bellies; I got close enough to see one as it slid into the water.

Incidentally … Contrary to the song Grandpa Jone's sang on the TV show"Hee Haw", a group of turtles isn't a herd; it's a bale.
