Off-White Fall 2019 Ready-to-Wear Review

Virgil Abloh, 38-year-old American fashion designer, has stunned the world once more with his Off-White Fall/Winter 2019 Women’s Ready-to-Wear collection at this year’s Paris Fashion Week.

The collection, “His & Hers”, portrays 45 looks on 45 models.

The first model to emerge is sported in a white dress, the word “OFF” boldly standing in black against the scooped crew-neck neckline.  A large, ankle-length coat is draped around her shoulders, and the sleeves are so long that they cover her hand as she holds the bag by her side.  The bag is the main focal point of the look.  Its material looks billowy, as though it were created in the means of a puffer jacket.  The pattern is made up of black and white squares, quilted into the shape of a duffel bag.  The look is complete with fuzzy, white, lace-up high heels, with the iconic OFF-WHITE zip tie shaped around the ankle.

Abloh continues to use an array of blacks, whites, and neutral colors throughout the next few looks, until reaching Look 17.

The model catches all eyes as she struts down the runway, wearing a bright orange waist piece paired with bright orange pants and heels.  A long, quilted jacket extends off her silhouette and portrays the essence of power. The jacket carries the same pattern as the bag in Look 1.

Look 29 caught my eye in particular because it has a bright, yet neutralized vibe.  The skin-tight top, which I can only assume is a bodysuit, renders a light yellow and light gray checkered pattern.  However, some of the checkers are distorted, giving a hallucinogenic trip-like effect to the viewer.  The high-waisted, bleach wash jeans are an epic tribute to ’90s denim.  The green, multi-textured handbag paired with the green, open-toed heels tie this look together.

Look 43, worn by supermodel Karlie Kloss, would have been my absolute favorite under different, alternative circumstances.  The vibrant yellow color of the dress would have made a bright, bold statement on any normal runway, shocking the audience with its monochromatic design and its equally brilliant matching, yellow handbag.

However! The layout of the show’s interior design deflected the brightness of the outfit, creating an awkward blend between the yellow of the fabric and the yellow of the patterned floor.  All in all, no shade to Abloh, because I would still kill to see this dress worn on the street.

To sum up this review of Off-White F/W 2019 RTW collection, I absolutely loved the pieces.  I think Abloh is extremely creative and talented and I am excited to see what he will do for other brands like Nike and Louis Vuitton.
