oo1: good apollo, vol 1.: the writing writer - coheed and cambria. i’ll live through this in a manner cursed at my own accord --- only i don’t even think of you. no, i don’t want to think of you anymore. oo2: relentless - strapping young lad. all it in it’s place. it’s time to lay everything to waste. oo3: sin & sacrifice - devildriver. old habits die hard, and i’ve lived so fast, and i know it’s a long way down. oo4: lord gold throneroom - horse the band. she sees him: watching, gazing, leering blankly, vacant, worthless, golden, perfect.
oo5: personal jesus - marilyn manson. feeling unknown and you’re all alone, flesh and bone by the telephone. lift up the receiver, i’ll make you a beleiver. oo6: what i always wanted - kittie. i thought i found what i always wanted there with me. oo7: amarillo sleeps on my pillow - fair to midland. if i had to guess, he’s still making a mess worse than any thunderstorm. oo8: rowboat - coal chamber. insects in your kiss, you are my sunshine. get out of my rowboat. oo9: c.o.t.e. - karnivool. so drop me down, let me feel this either way. face me inside: with a broken view, a broken heart. disappear. now i don’t think you like me, now. now i don’t think you’re like me, now. o1o: i could care less - devildriver. i could care less than for your sickening, pompous ways. every time you speak my name, my image burns away. i could care less. o11: te quiero puta - rammstein. entre tus piernas voy a llonar. feliz y triste voy a estar. no me tengas miedo, no te voy a comer. dámelo, dámelo. o12: penetrate - godhead. i wouldn’t know the solution ‘cause this ain’t my revolution. i practice my prostitution and spread the people’s pollution. o13: ravenous - arch enemy. ritual slaughter, fill up the chalice with the essence of your life. liquid strength’s trapped in your veins. i crave your blood, you must die. o14: blue monday - orgy. and i still find it so hard to say what i need to say, but i’m quite sure that you’ll tell me just how i should feel today. o15: entities - job for a cowboy. over and over repeatedly this relentless process, thousands of speechless bodies pile over each other completely motionless, over again. o16: rev 22:20 - puscifer. my pulse has been rising, my temples are pounding, the pressure is so overwhelming and building. so steady there, i’m ready to blow. what is she waiting for? o17: living dead girl - rob zombie. crawl on me, sink into me, die for me. blood on her skin dripping with sin, do it again, living dead girl. o18: the line of least resistance - sybreed. pretentious fraudster, you deem yourself worthy of reverence, ever craving to be praised. o19: the black hole - horse the band. i’ll face the stars, or the abyss, but not nothing at all. i’ll face the stars, or the abyss, from nothing i can’t fall. o2o: deer dance - system of a down. a deer dance invitation to peace, war staring you in the face, dressed in black. with a helmet, fierce, trained and appropriate for the malcontents. for the disproportioned malcontents. a little boy smiled, it’ll all be well. and say a little boy smiled, it’ll all be well. pushing little children with their fully automatics, they like to push the weak around. o21: slave only dreams to be king - marilyn manson. i’m happy to pull my veins out and braid a rope, i don’t need hope to know that you’ll die slow. you are what you beat. o22: mannequin - cradle of filth. burning flesh, dripping sweat. abusing them all, like the paralyzing snake. charmed and enchanted by the babylon whore. o23: one hand killing - twelve foot ninja. up on your feet, darling dear. may the gods guide you right back here. without you here it’s not home. may you find what you’re looking for. an inner peace, the infinite, may it burn through your deepest fear. without punch there’s no show, may you hold them accountable. o24: the light that blinds - shadows fall. you hide behind the light that blinds. we’ll never find what burns inside. you remain blind behind the light. o25: closer - nine inch nails. you can have my isolation, you can have the hate that it brings. you can have my absence of faith, you can have my everything. help me, you tear down my reason. help me, it’s your sex i can smell. help me, you make me perfect. help me become somebody else. o26: alaska - between the buried and me. yes, creepy, the idea of control. controlling death with alertness. ---- nature can be the death of me, a thing we’ll never overcome. o27: sonne - rammstein. alle warten auf das licht. fürchtet euch, fürchtet euch nicht, die sonne scheint mir aus den augen. sie wird heut nacht nicht untergehen ... und die welt zählt laut bis zehn. o28: superbeast - rob zombie. stir the limbs across the wrist, full possession of a memory. bury me as a dog, icy hands surrounding me. ---- hell yeah, i’m the one that you wanted. hell yeah, i’m the superbeast. o29: bounce - system of a down. unannounced twister games, all players with no names. they lined up double-quick: but just one pogo-stick. everyone gets to play, runaway, exposé. it was so exotic, but just one pogo stick. o3o: thank god for the sufferings - cradle of filth. love would have conquered all, were we not parted. her splintered loss rekindles rage, the winter frost dwindles across my stage, lit up once more to score finales started. love would have conquered all. love would have conquered hate, hate hate. and in those frozen moments won, from grief that creeps to wreathe the sun, in drapes inwove with deathshed wing: i thank god for the suffering.

To Have A Villain’s Quirk
EIGHTEEN: CRASHING DOWN
Song: All On Fire - Coheed and Cambria
When she joined the girls again, they had asked about her jacket. Kaida didn't want to rat Bakugo out for having feelings, knowing how her classmates could get, and just said she got a little cold. Even though they were told to have fun, she didn't know how everyone else felt, but she couldn't relax that much knowing she was going to be in the tournament. Kaida knew she wouldn't really have to come up with a strategy for fighting Ashido, as mean as that sounds, so, she tried to just calm her nerves by being around the girls. They never failed to make her feel safe. Sure, she wanted to be ready for anything. And before she knew it, the finals began.
Kaida sat in the locker room, having just changed out of the cheerleader uniform into her gym clothes, letting her hair down to release some pressure. She could already hear Present Mic getting everyone pumped up, but she couldn't stop her body from trembling with nervousness. She wasn't first up, and that was okay, she had more time to calm down. She jumped when she heard her phone ringing from her locker, only noticing it was hers from the ringtone for her dad. She pushed herself up, slowly taking it from the little cubby, looking at the picture that popped up. It comforted her. After another ring, she answered it.
"Hey dad-"
"Kaida, don't ever wear something like that again, especially on TV. I can't have you dressing like that, you're still supposed to be my little girl. The one that was too afraid to even dress up in Halloween costumes because they were too scary.. You're growing up too fast-!" She could hear her father practically sobbing before there was a loud smack on the other end.
"Oh, sweetie, don't mind your father. You know how he gets." Her mothers voice came through, making her laugh. "You looked so confident out there.. It's a good change. But.. Don't dress like that too much, okay? You're still only fifteen.."
"For only a few more months."
"I know, I know. Anyways, that's not why we were calling. We just wanted to tell you how proud we are of you.. You're doing so well, but please be careful.. I know you want to be a hero but if something happens and you don't feel right there anymore, don't worry if you need to transfer to a normal school. You'll still be our hero." Don't worry if she has to transfer? If something happens? Did her mother really not have that much faith in her? There was a pause, as if her mother was waiting for her to say something, when actuality it was Takeshi staring Kaori down for saying such a thing. The woman sighed before continuing. "We just.. love you so much. We don't want you to get hurt."
"...Yeah, I get it.. I gotta go. My friends match is up. I'll talk to you later." Before Kaori could say another word, Kaida had hung up, throwing the phone back into her locker and dragging herself to the stadiums. Well, she felt like absolute shit.
*
"Why. The Hell. Would you say that to her?" Takeshi stared at his wife, teeth clenched after hearing the words she pointed at their daughter. She lowered the phone from her ear, gently setting it on the counter while keeping her back turned to the other.
"Those schools are dangerous, the sports festival is dangerous. We already almost lost her once, I don't think my heart would be able to take it if something else happened to her."
"I thought you were proud that she got into that school?"
"I am. I'd just wish she had gone to a normal school. Her choice is her own. All I'm saying is that, instead of getting wrapped up in something too big for her, for any of us, that maybe she should really take a moment to wonder if she's already where she belongs. With us."
"Kaori, I understand you're trying to protect her, but she needs to be able to do things on her own. You won't always be there." Her hand gripped the counter, the marble softly screeching beneath her fingers before she whipped herself around with fiery eyes.
"I'm the one who's been here. You're the one who's been off gallivanting over in the states. You haven't been here for her at all. You don't know what she has been doing, going through to get to where she's trying to be. Where were you for the past few birthdays? The days she stayed holed up in her room because of kids at her school? When she finally gained a friend in Izuku, and the happiness that she had? When she tried to fight a villain off with him to save another boy in her class, who was actually Bakugo, believe it or not." She took a few steps forward, staring the male ghoul down as she a tail raised from her back, snaking around her waist to point at him. "I don't want to hear you saying that I won't be here for her when you can't even say you have been."
"From what I've heard, she didn't talk to you, and you didn't really talk to her, until that villain incident. And don't hold me being overseas against me. It was for my job. I've been the one earning money for this family and send it over to you so you can take care of yourself and Kaida. I've done all of that for my family. You're only just now acting like a mother. After what happened when she was five, you distanced yourself. As if you couldn't bear to be around her. You called her a monster for fuck's sake! Your own daughter!" Kaori's eyes widened as he rose his voice at her, dark veins slithering from his eyes and down his cheeks with each word. "So, the one time she calls you mom, and acknowledges you, you can just suddenly forget everything? I want to know what happened to the woman I married. Who was sweet, and loving. I want her back. Not this impostor." All was quiet as the black haired woman lowered her head.
"..You know. I've had just about enough of you." The front door opened, catching her husbands attention but just long enough for her do what she needed to do.
*
Kaida shuffled through the halls to catch the tail end of Midoriya's fight, stopping just before 1-A's seating area. She leaned against the wall and watched the fight end with the green haired boy sending Shinso out of bounds. She saw that Midoriya was already hurt, making her shake her head at his recklessness. She wanted to sit there with her friends, to cheer the boy on.. but she just didn't feel up to it. Todoroki and Sero's match was up next. She didn't talk to them much so maybe she could just sit by herself for a while until her match.
She found one of the empty waiting rooms, gently closing the door behind her as she went to sit down at one of the tables. Letting down her hair, she ran a hand through it as she looked up at the ceiling. She could feel her eyes start burning but she pushed the tears back, taking a shaky breath. She couldn't do this right now, she had a match she had to win. She needed to get herself out of her head but as the minutes passed, she just spiraled deeper down in her thoughts. Before she knew it, her face and the table in front of her were covered in years, her hand over her mouth to muffle any sounds that wanted to escape.
Just when she was finally happy with herself, her life.. something always went wrong. She got too comfortable, that's what always happened. She didn't actually know how much time passed until they announced the ending of Iida's match against the support girl. She wiped her face as best as she could, feeling like her body was numb. Kaida shuffled her way towards the arena, wiping at her face once again as Mic's face rang through the stadium. "Get ready for this next match between best friends! Both students from Class 1-A! The acidic, pink-skinned creature, Mina Ashido! Versus! The virago herself! Kaida Hiyama!"
Walking out into the open area, she almost hissed at the bright sunlight, eyes quickly adjusting as she saw her friend on the other side of the ring. She could see all of the eyes, hear all of the loud noises, the cheering, the screaming. The cameras were pointed at the both of them, and she just wanted to run away. She didn't want to be here. She wanted to be at home, in bed. Where she was safe. She didn't want to fight. She just wanted to cry. No.. she didn't want to feel anything. She could forfeit.. yeah. That sounded like a good idea-
"Kaida! Don't go easy on me, okay?" Mina called to her, once they were both on the ring and inside the bounds. She met her eyes across the ring before looking away, the others smile fading.
* Up in the stands, their whole class sat, waiting for the match to start as Mic announced their classmates. Some of them were watching the cameras, others were watching the two down below, others were talking. Katsuki's eyes narrowed as he looked at his friends face. It looked like he wasn't the only one who noticed.
"Hey.. is it just me or is there something wrong with Hiyama?" Jirou asked, Kaminari and Kirishima agreeing while Bakugo clenched his teeth. What was wrong with that idiot? Midoriya watched with his friends, frowning as he leaned forward, a worried expression on his face.
* As their battle began, Mina immediately rushed her, Kaida was still a little distracted and too slow to dodge the girl, being knocked back. Their class, and even Mina gasped. She hadn't expected to actually land a hit. Kaida was usually so quick, so strong, that not a lot could but her. Normally, Bakugo was one of the only ones who could land a hit. That was when everyone knew something was really off with her. The maroonette carefully pulled herself to her feet, a little dazed but still conscious. Mina just stood there, confused and worried.
"Ashido managed to get a kick in, but it looks like Hiyama didn't even bother to block it, let alone move! What's going on?!" Mic yelled, catching Kaida's attention for a moment before Mina hesitantly came at her again. This time, Kaida tried to dodge but got hit again. She stumbled back but was caught, just before she was out of bounds. "What's this?! Ashido stopped Hiyama from going out of bounds!"
"Kai.. what are you doing?" The girl in question turned her head away, bangs covering her eyes. Mina's expression grew more upset, twisting her hand in the girls jacket. "You're not supposed to lose. I don't know what's gotten into you but you're the one who has to get further than this." No response came from the girl and Mina huffed, frustrated.
SLAP!!
A hush fell over the crowd as everyone was locked intensely on the two girls. Kaida's eyes widened as she slowly met the others, raising a hand to her cheek. "You promised me you wouldn't hold back, what happened to throwing me out of bounds, huh? I'm not just gonna walk out, Kai. This is as far as I go, so snap out of it and fight me." She paused for a moment, giving a small smile. "..And we can talk about what's bothering you later. Okay?"
She stared at the pinkette before nodding, the corners of her lips twitching up a bit. "Okay.." Her voice sounded so small, and it broke Mina's heart to hear it like that. But the answer was enough for her to drop the girls jacket and take a few steps back.
"Okay, let's go!" Mina grinned as Kaida regained her composure, taking a deep breath as she put one foot behind her.
"Looks like Ashido seemed to pull Hiyama out of whatever trance she was in and they're now ready to fight for real!"
The crowd began cheering the moment Kaida's Rinkaku was released, three tails flaring up behind her. Mina smirked and acid was flung towards her opponent, Kaida dodging a little quicker this time as the acid covered the area in front of her. She tried to get behind the other to take her out but Mina was faster, sliding around the girl with a grin. Kaida felt some acid fall on one of the tails, starting to burn it away. She hissed and jumped after the other, taking one tail to wrap around her waist. Mina, knowing she was caught, just smiled with a nod and Kaida nodded back, tossing her out of bounds.
"Ashido is out of bounds! Hiyama wins!" As soon as Midnight called it, Kaida rose her head to look at the sky before jogging after the pinkette, who was slowly pulling herself to her feet. Kaida helped her stand and Mina gave her a one shoulder hug.
"Congrats, Kai! You deserved it!" She didn't say anything but set her head on her shoulder as they both walked out. As they announced the next match between Tokoyami and Yaoyorozu, the two girls found their way to an empty waiting room. Just before they entered the room, footstep came jogging behind them.
"Hey, are you guys okay?" Kaida and Mina turned to look at their violet haired friend, the girl panting a little as she caught up with them. She was mostly looking at Kaida, her taking a step forward. "Are you okay, Hiyama?" The girl was silent as the other two looked at her and she felt her eyes starting to prick.
"Kaida..?"
"C-can we sit down.. please? I-I just need to grab my phone first." They quickly nodded and let her grab her things from the changing room before leading her into a vacant waiting room, the trio taking a seat on one of the couches. Jirou took one of her hands while Mina kept her arm around her shoulders.
"Okay, now what's going on?"
*
"Kaida.. I know that you're busy with the tournament but.. your father.." There were sobs from the other side of the phone. "There was an accident.. Kaida, I'm so sorry.. Please call me when you can, okay? If you go through with the rest of the tournament, just know that you'll be making your father so proud. I..I love you so much Kai, and I know he loved you so much. You were his Chimera, after all."
The message ended and hot tears cascaded down the maroonette's face, dropping her phone into her lap. She didn't hear the door open or her two friends talk to the group that entered the room. She couldn't see the look on Bakugo's face as he knelt in front of her, yelling at and shaking the girl. But nothing could get through to her.
Her whole world was crashing down.

678.
music;
x1 Your top three favorite bands: >> I don’t really have favourite bands anymore, but three bands that I enjoy a lot are Muse, Nevermore, and Coheed & Cambria.
x2 One song that means a lot to you: >> Nothing As It Seems by Pearl Jam.
x3 An instrument you dislike: >> I don’t think I dislike any instrument.
x4 A musician you think others should know more about: >> I don’t think there’s any musician that everyone should know about. It’s not that deep. Listen to whatever you like.
x5 Some lyrics you find meaningful: >> There’s no way I’m going to think of some off the top of my head.
x6 The name of one of your past music teachers: >> I think one of my choir instructors was named Mrs Brosnan.
x7 A musician who inspires you: >> Clint Mansell.
x8 A song from your childhood, that you used to sing: >> I sang stuff from the Prince of Egypt soundtrack a lot when I was a kid. Which is why I still remember all the lyrics.
x9 A description of your music taste: >> I wouldn’t bother describing it.
x1o One thing you believe about music in general: >> I believe that people should listen to whatever moves them, and being snobbish about which artists/genres are “better” than others completely ignores the pure subjectivity of the experience and makes you annoying to be around. The analytics of music is a very interesting area of study, certainly, but when it comes to whatever people choose to listen to for their own pleasure, leave that stuff at the door.
x11 Do you judge other peoples' taste? >> No. See above.
x12 Do you think you have "good taste"? Why|why not? >> I don’t care about whether my taste in music is “good” or “bad” to other people. It’s just what I like listening to. Again, it’s not that deep.
x13 Are there any concerts you'd like to go to? >> Sure, a few.
x14 What would be a perfect line-up, in your opinion? >> I don’t have any ideas for a perfect line-up.
x15 What do you think of modern VS older music? >> I stay away from comparison. I mean, I’ve definitely had discussions about how the music industry has changed, how listening habits have changed, stuff like that -- because that’s stuff that’s easy to measure. Whether music was “better” “back then” and all that is not of interest to me, because it’s really just opinion and not even useful opinion. Some of the music I like is leagues older than me, some of it came out just last year.
life;
x1 What is one lesson you have learned? >> Oh, you know. Everything is temporary, and such.
x2 Have you ever reconnected or reunited with old friends? >> No.
x3 Were you ever in a hurry to grow up? How'd that work out? >> I was in a hurry because nothing about being a minor made sense to me -- life really only started making sense to me when I was out on my own. Even when it was terrible, it made sense. I could figure shit out. Trial and error never really scared me.
x4 What did you tend to think of school, as a kid? As a teen? >> I don’t know what I thought of school as a child, but I know it was the bane of my existence as a teenager.
x5 Do people have to earn your respect? >> I give basic respect to everyone, regardless of their personality or whatever, unless their behaviour is just full-on atrocious. But more personal, deeply-felt respect is something that is developed for a certain kind of person.
x6 Or is it given until there's a reason for it not to be? >> That’s how basic respect works for me, yeah.
x7 What is something you've learned about trust? >> I’ve learned that it’s a really valuable thing, but people will definitely treat it like it’s nothing, and that’s a tragedy.
x8 What advice do you have regarding happiness? >> Don’t make a big deal out of it. It’s really, really not that deep. The cult of happiness is just a huge money-maker for the corporations, none of which actually have your well-being at heart. Also, the definition of happiness varies depending on who you talk to and what angle they’re pushing, so as far as intangible things go, it’s ridiculously mercurial and insubstantial. Make your goals more specific than “be happy/happier” or else you’ll always fail.
x9 In your own opinion, what is the meaning of life? >> Whatever you want. There’s no inherent meaning, in my opinion, which means it’s all up to the individual.
x1o Who|What makes living worthwhile? >> I don’t know. Whatever sparks joy, I guess.
x11 If there was no God, would you still want to live? >> Luckily, there are far, far more reasons to enjoy being alive than the concept of God.
x12 When was the last time you altered your lifestyle? >> I’m not sure. My lifestyle has been rather stable for the past couple of years.
x13 What is your take on getting older? >> I’m interested to see what happens.
x14 Do you think you are wise? >> Nah.
x15 Do you believe in an afterlife? Why|Why not? >> Nah. It just doesn’t jive with me. Well... on the other hand, I interpret Inworld as an afterlife and neither of the current Inworlders have disagreed with me. But it’s not... like, literal “after-life”. They could also be living other lives, simultaneously, or in parallel to this one, or before this one or after this one or... whatever. It still doesn’t track with the idea of, say, Heaven, which is a very ... linear destination. Hm.
people;
x1 Do you ever observe other people, at random? >> Sure.
x2 What is one thought you have about society today? >> I don’t really have thoughts about society as a whole. I usually have thoughts about specific aspects of American society, like media influence and individualism and stuff like that. But those thoughts change frequently as new information is presented to me, so I wouldn’t quote them or anything.
x3 Can you agree to disagree, easily? >> Sure.
x4 Do you ever wonder about what goes on in other peoples' minds? >> Of course. Especially neurotypical people. What’s it like to have a brain that functions the way you expect and need it to, all the time???
x5 Do you try to persuade others to think like you? >> Eh. I am always up for offering my perspective on things, but there’s no way I can expect to convince anyone to adopt my perspective if they don’t already have it. It might happen, on some odd occasion, but I don’t expect it to.
x6 Has someone tried to persuade you to see things from their point of view? >> Sure. It’s usually not too difficult for me, though. Whether I care about their point of view is the thing that matters, not whether I can grok it or not.
x7 What is one lifestyle you do not understand? >> I cannot think of a single lifestyle I just flat-out don’t understand. (Yes, you should consider that a challenge.)
x8 How do you think people with mental disorders should be treated ( socially, not medically )? >> Well, with dignity and compassion, of course. How else?
x9 Is there a subculture you dislike or make fun of? >> Nah. I like subcultures, even the ones I don’t participate in.
x1o What do you hate about humanity? >> Nothing.
x11 Do you contribute to what you hate? If yes, in what way? >> ---
x12 Do you wonder what the world would be like w|o people? >> Sure, it’s a fun thought exercise.
x13 Is interacting with others something you enjoy? >> Under certain conditions.
14 Do you think the government is up to something? >> I mean, aren’t they always? But maybe not necessarily the stuff r/Conspiracy says they’re up to.
x15 What is one cure for ignorance? >> The only cure for ignorance that I’m aware of is the willingness to learn.

Our interview with Save The Broken about mental health and some other questions
1. What is your names & what do you play in the band?
Steve Walters - Vocals
Tyler Semolik - Drums <Participants of interview
Frank Cortalano - Guitar
Frank Mazzei - Guitar
Mike Hooper - Bass
2. • How did the band get started?
Rob, a founding member and I used to always go to karaoke together and sing songs with screaming in them. The look on people’s faces was priceless when they heard that first scream unexpectedly. One day we got tired of people coming up to us asking if we were in a band to which we always replied no. So we told each other “let’s just do it, it’s our dream. What are we waiting for?”
-Steve
I joined the band when the old guitarist left the band. Members of Save The Broken including Steve and Tyler had come to see my other band at a show back in February of 2019 to introduce themselves to us. After that, my other band had played a few shows with Save The Broken. Later that year the band had announced that their guitarist was leaving and that they we’re looking for a new one. At the time I was not looking to join another band because I have a million other things going on, but I reached out to Steve and told him that I was willing to help fill in until they found someone permanent. After weeks of practicing, we had our first show at Lucy’s Lounge in Pleasantville for This Is Sirus Fest. The energy on stage was amazing and I knew that I couldn’t pass up the opportunity to be a part of something this fun so I decided to become a permanent guitarist.
-Frank C.
3. •What was the funniest thing that has ever happened to you on stage?
Last year on Halloween my mic got yanked into the pit and I tried pulling it back but it wasn’t budging. I threw my arms in the air and sang along with the crowd for the rest of the song. There’s a clip of it in the highlights on our instagram.
-Steve
My equipment breaks on me almost every show lol!
-Tyler
The funniest thing that happened on stage was a drunk guy at one of our shows was so into our set that he came up to sing our songs along with us, even though he didn’t really know the words lol.
-Frank C.
4. •If you had 1 million dollars in the music industry what would you use it for?
Besides investing in equipment, I would love to donate to charities that are meaningful to me and to the band as a whole and put together shows that would help raise money for causes that we care about. I want people to realize how important music is and how it can help the community and the world.
-Frank C
This has never been about money for me. If I can help people heal and just make enough to get by, I’ll be very happy. If we do end up getting to that level one day I’d want to give back to all of the people that got us there. -Steve
Currently, a venue for sessions where bands can do their thing and be live streamed so everyone can see them considering the situation.
-Tyler
5. • If you could tour with any band or musician dead or alive who would it be with & why?
Easy, August Burns Red or Dance Gavin Dance. They’ve always been my inspiration to be a musician and be in a touring band.
-Tyler
My Chemical Romance. Yeah, the guy that screams was an emo kid. I don’t think I’d be here without them and they’re my inspiration for wanting to help people just like they’ve helped me. Band name inspiration confirmed. -Steve
Definitely Bayside and Coheed and Cambria. These are two bands that have gotten me through some tough times and have been a huge inspiration for me as a musician across all instruments I play. One of Save The Broken’s main messages is to help and inspire others so bands like these two that have done the same for me are near and dear to my heart.
-Frank C.
6.• What do you think of the media frenzy over mental illness meaning should we talk about it more in the world?
I believe that it is very important to talk about mental illness. We all need to do what we can to be healthy in all aspects of life and our mental health is arguably the most important part because it coincides with everything else. I feel like the media doesn’t focus as much on mental health as it should and unfortunately does not do more to encourage people to seek the proper help that they need.
-Frank C.
We should always talk about it. I think the media and certain businesses are just cashing in on the hype, but there has never been a better and more acceptable time to talk about your mental illness, and that’s a great thing. -Steve
7.• Have you ever dealt with depression or any other mental illness & if so how did you handle it?
I’ve been dealing with depression for years. I find solace in my friends, family, music, writing, and my bandmates. I’m very lucky to have strong people around me and to be a part of this band. Helping others is a great way to deal with your own depression sometimes. We’re here to help heal the world, but we’re definitely healing ourselves along the way.
-Steve
Depression has definitely been kicking me in the butt for a while. I try to put myself out of my own element and to be more openminded about trying new things I may like to take my mind off of the old things dragging me down. -Tyler
I have been dealing with both depression and anxiety nearly my entire life. I’ve been trying my hardest to follow a lesson that I learned from reading the book The Alchemist which is to live in the moment. This lesson has really helped me become more present in all aspects of my life rather than be stuck inside my own head. I am very lucky to have things in my life that bring me joy such as music, dungeons and dragons, video games, and hanging with my friends and loved ones who are an important support system to have. There are a ton of bad things that I can focus on or worry about but when I can do the things that bring me joy, be present in every moment and remind myself that the pain and sadness are temporary it allows me to be positive and enjoy the good things in life.
-Frank C.
8.• What would you say has been the most difficult or hardest part of your life so far?
The hardest part of my life so far has been finding a comfortable environment where I feel free to find myself and to properly sit with my emotions. This has negatively affected me because I haven’t felt like I had a place to think and to properly heal mentally which has taken toll on my writing which is one of the most important things in my life.
-Frank C.
Losing my dad suddenly at 15 still hurts me to this day. We were very close. I’ve lost many loved ones, but that cut is the deepest. I’ve worked in the funeral business for a long time and being around death is always a constant reminder of what I’ve been through, but being around others who have lost someone and helping them means a lot to me.
-Steve
Now, 2020, corona virus, I love being around people, being out and enjoying myself. So not being able to do so drives me insane.
-Tyler
9.• What would you tell a fan that is struggling with self harm?
I try my hardest to let the people in my life know that they are important and that their life is worth living. I would encourage a fan, or anyone struggling with self-harm, to seek out professional help or at the very least reach out to someone who can help them get to that point. I know it can sometimes be scary, but therapy is an option that they should consider and can benefit from. It’s also important to be honest and patient with themself and to realize that healing takes time. We all have the strength to get passed whatever we are dealing with.
-Frank C.
Do whatever you can to find a different outlet for your pain. Reach out to anyone you can, and even if you think that person doesn’t exist there is always someone out there going through the same thing or maybe even worse. Luckily there are many ways to reach out these days even if there’s no one present in your life to help you. You shouldn’t be ashamed to talk to someone, and if that’s what’s stopping you, luckily there are plenty of ways now to do that privately and virtually. I also want people to know that they have the strength within to heal, but sometimes in your darkest of places, someone needs to drag it out of you, and that’s ok.
-Steve
If a fan is hurting, you be there for them, LISTEN to them. A fan is a friend you hold highly. Try to help them find other coping mechanisms to help when they are in their time of need.
-Tyler
10.• What is like when a fan comes up too you & tells you your music saved their life or get them though hard times in life?
That’s what this is all about. There was a guy who came up to me in Brooklyn after a set who had never heard of us before. He connected with what I said between songs about losing someone and not being alone. He thanked me for reminding him of that and gave me a hug. I cried and thanked him also, because he reminded me of how true that was too. If he’s reading this I hope he never forgets that statement, and for anyone else reading this you shouldn’t forget it either.
-Steve
It’s one of the best feelings in the world. As performers and artists, it is important to remember that what we do goes beyond ourselves. When we get up on that stage or release music out into the world we are connecting with people. I don’t do this for money or fame. I do this to inspire others and impact their life through music. If I can relate to one person and give them a sense of hope by letting them know they aren’t alone in this world then I have done my job as a musician.
-Frank C.
It’s a great feeling. I love that people can connect through music and being someone who helps with that means the world to me!
-Tyler
11.• Do any of your songs talk about anything dealing with depression or self harm or anything along those lines?
Not every song of ours speaks about those subjects specifically, but every song is based off of emotions, good or bad, that come from dealing with hard times, and the journey to overcome them.
-Steve
12.• What would you tell someone that is scared to ask for help because they don't want to be looked at differently?
I’d tell them that it is okay to feel scared, but don’t let anyone stop them from getting the help they need. The fear of being judged should never hold them back from doing what is right for them. It is their right to keep their personal life private, but they should reach out to people they trust if they are in need of help.
-Frank C.
I would tell them don’t feel scared. Speak to someone who they feel comfortable talking to and explain the problem, then look for help.
-Tyler
Reach out privately. Research different organizations designed to fit your specific needs.
-Steve
13.• Do you think we as society should be able to have a conversation about mental health without being judge or looked at differently & do you think we should be able to talk about it in our school systems?
Anyone who would ever put you down for what you’re going through has no place in your life. Cut toxicity out of your circle. As someone who was bullied all throughout his life in school I think that is the toughest hurdle. We as a society have to make it so mental health is not something to be looked down upon and I think that will trickle down to everything else including the school systems. I think we’re on our way to that.
-Steve
As a teacher, I can tell you just how influential the things kids learn in school are. Speaking about mental health in schools will help children understand how important it is and may help decrease the stigma that surrounds mental health. If our children are properly informed on the subject, it will help us as a society to normalize the conversation and can lead to less judgment and better understanding of it.
-Frank C.
14.• Do you think the media should look at mental health in a positive light, more then just jumping to conclusions on the news?
Unfortunately, media and the news have a big role to play in our society. If mental health was discussed in a positive light and helped people have a better understanding of it by providing the information in a more accessible way, then it may help open the discussion rather than stigmatize mental health.
-Frank C.
Don’t watch the news lol...
-Steve

REVIEW: “THE UNHEAVENLY CREATURES” - COHEED AND CAMBRIA TRACK BY TRACK BREAKDOWN
PROLOGUE: The story starts here. it all starts here. Do you like galactic space operas? Does the never ending battle between Good and Evil make your calves cramp? Do you always wear cargo shorts regardless of inclement weather? If you said yes to any of these, I have very good news for you; Coheed and Cambria are back with a new album, “Vaxis - Act 1: The Unheavenly Creatures”. Lets start the show
THE DARK SENTENCER: Ok this is pretty much already a bad idea. 15 tracks, all clocking in at a whopping 4+ minutes. This sounds like every Co&Ca song i’ve ever heard. “Take my hand”. simply epic. Putting the longest song at the beginning of an album is a power move, and i respect the hell out of it. I’ve listened to white noise asmr that does more in 8 minutes than this song
UNHEAVENLY CREATURES: Chiptune synths? On a Coheed track? Epic. Kinda reminds me of their song “Feathers” from 1000 albums back. Thats it
TOYS: These guys started as a very nerdy emo band and somewhere along the way convinced themselves they were prog-metal torchbearers. This song fits more in line with the former. I like this song its fine
BLACK SUNDAY: I can only assume this album is telling some kind of story with different characters and this is a song told from a villain’s perspective? SOme kind of powerful alien demon with his own twisted moral code? Who’s goal is to bring balance to the universe by any means necessary?. That is until he comes face to face with Earths mightiest heroes, The Avengers
QUEEN OF THE DARK: ughhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh
TRUE UGLY: I could’ve picked any album. ANy album. For this dumb fucking review blog that no one will read. It’s like very riff, lyric, melody, breakdown et al from their back catalogue were entered into a Coheed and Cambria song generator
LOVE PROTOCOL: THis sounds like a song and i can’t put my finger on it ok now it sounds like a ballad you’d listen to while drinking a Rockstar Revolt™: Killer Grape Energy Drink™. Rockstar Energy™: Let The Music Take Control. ™
OLD SPICE COMMERCIAL: Cooling mint body wash, now at Wal Mart
SPOTIFY COMMERCIAL: Discover weekly, tap the banner to start discovereing
SPOTIFY COMMERCIAL: Podcasts too!! COmdy, politics, sports, tap the banner to check out whats streaming right now
THE PAVILION (A LONG WAY BACK): sdfdsf Big Bold U2 guitars, a real anthem. And a string section? They captured lightning in a bottle here. Speaking of which, do you Wanna Ride the Lightning without all those pesky calories weighing you down? Rockstar’s gotcha covered. Rockstar Pure Zero, now in 6 Rockin flavour’s™
NIGHT-TIME WALKERS: sdf alright been hoping they’d switch it up and i only had to wait 10 songs. Basically just a Coheed song with synths and vocoder. Nice little refrain. Imagining a Metro Boomin produced Coheed album and getting more joy out of that thought than this song
THE GUTTER: Buddy, i gotta gutter for ya. Meet me at the bowling alley and i’ll show you what a real gutter is. buhhhh auughhh idk this song has screaming and breakdowns and still falls short of being metalcore or whatever. Every now and then a guitar will pop up that reminds me of Fang Island, they were a good band listen to them instead of this. And if you like Coheed and Cambria just listen to those first 3 albums c’mon
ALL ON FIRE: I could’ve gotten so much done already; loaded the dishwasher, gone grocery shopping, joined a gym, picked up an old hobby, put a belt around my neck and taken a lil nap under the door handle. But no. “I should review the newest Coheed and Cambria album start to finish wouldn’t that be soooo funny”. I own this guilt. It is my cross to bare. Rockstar Energy™
IT WALKS AMONG US: Is he.. rapping? Creature feature mona lisa beat ya meet ya robin leech ya/Gucci belt my pants saggin til the meat show/Yeah aight bitch welcome to the meat show/Freak show, my life a movie scene i shoot pornos/Got the pussy in a chokehold/Bitch i’m really stone cold
OLD FLAMES: This sounds like Jimmy Eat World. Hold on, I think I get it now. The story this album is telling is actually a metaphor for something else. Lotta “na na na” vocals, great
LUCKY STARS: Welp, I can thank MY Luck Stars that this is the last song on the album. It’s an acoustic ballad but i have a sneaking suspicion that’s gonna change ;) hmmmmmmmmmmmmm ok maybe not. There is some 80′s prime time cop drama blues guitar and i’m not mad at it
OK! It’s over. I loved this band when i was 15 and a piece of me hoped to love this album. And I did! 5/5 stars

289.
Let’s start with you: How are you?: >> I’m all right.
What motivates you to get up every day?: >> I mean, the alternative is worse...
Do you have a true best friend?: >> No.
Do you see yourself as a sensitive person?: >> I don’t see myself that way, no.
Have you been upset recently?: >> Sure.
Do you still leave/receive voicemails?: >> No. Is this something one stops doing at some point, for some reason? I just don’t use the phone much, period, and I never have.
Do you live in your hometown?: >> No.
Are you a festive person? Do you enjoy holidays?: >> I can be a festive person, as long as brain shit isn’t interfering. I do enjoy holidays (some much more than others, obviously).
Did you/Will you attend college?: >> I did not attend and I won’t.
How many alarm clocks do you use?: >> Zero.
Do you consider yourself to be an open-minded person?: >> Yep.
Do you eat fruit?: >> Not usually. Produce is the most annoying shit to buy and keep and eat, what with how quickly it goes bad and how shit I can be at eating things in a timely fashion. I commend and envy those who don’t have this problem, but it’s definitely a problem.
What is your favorite subject to learn about?: >> I’m not sure.
How many meals a day do you typically eat?: >> At least one; two on average.
Music, eh?
Have you seen any live shows?: >> Yes.
Name three of your favorite bands/artists…: >> David Bowie, Pearl Jam, Coheed & Cambria.
How big of a role does music play in your life?: >> It plays an extremely large role in my life.
Can you play any instruments?: >> No.
You’re feeling down - do you listen to sad music or happy? >> I don’t often choose music based on the mood it’s supposed to evoke. I listen to metal when I’m feeling down because something about the tempo and percussion-heavy sound is soothing. Or I’ll listen to synth stuff because it’s engaging in a way that just works for me. Sometimes I’ll listen to songs that make me cry if I feel the need for that sort of catharsis, but those songs aren’t necessarily “sad songs”, they’re just ones that make me cry. *shrug*
If you’ve ever been to a concert, how old were you and who did you see?: >> I’ve been to a lot of concerts. I was 18 when I went to my first one, and I saw Avenged Sevenfold and Coheed & Cambria on a co-headliner tour. (I actually went to two shows on that tour; the first one was in NJ and the second one was in NYC the next month.) Do you prefer music to be meaningful and deep, or purely for dancing/fun?: >> I like both. That’s why there’s Rush’s 2112 and Taylor Swift + Brendon Urie’s ME! on my playlist, for example. Is there a song or artist that you secretly enjoy, but don’t want to enjoy?: >> No.
If you could only listen to music from one decade, which would you choose?: >> I would never restrict myself like that. Has your parents taste in music in any way affected what you like?: >> Yeah, I grew up with a lot of R&B and soul music (and gospel, sometimes) playing in the house so I still deeply appreciate that kind of music. You’re looking for some new music - what’s your preferred way to discover?: >> Checking out random playlists on Spotify, usually. Do you still own any CD’s/records/tapes?: >> I have records, but no CDs or tapes. Do you ever hear a new song on tv that you like and find it?: >> Definitely. Speaking of television… (look at that smooth transition!) Do you watch a lot of television? Whether that be shows, news, movies etc.: >> I watch a fair amount, I guess one could say. Anywhere between a half hour to 3 hours of TV on any given day. Do you watch the news?: >> No. What about the weather channel?: >> I don’t have cable. I use the NOAA app on my phone for weather. What’s your favorite holiday movie?: >> It’s a Wonderful Life. What hooks you to a television show? >> There are different factors depending on what kind of show it is, but the one thing that’s universal for me is whether the characters are interesting, whether I care about what happens to them or not (even if “I care what happens” just means “I really gotta see what ridiculously stupid fucking shit they’re going to do now”, like in It’s Always Sunny). How do you feel about adult cartoons?: >> I like some of them, I don’t like others. Talk shows - boring or entertaining?: >> Boring, for me. Do you prefer cable, satellite or streaming?: >> We use streaming services. Have you come across any new shows you like this year?: >> I started watching It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia this year, finally, and I gotta say, I see why it’s so popular. I don’t remember what else I started watching this year, specifically, that was new to me. Do you still watch shows that you grew up watching?: >> I didn’t really grow up watching anything. What about movies that you grew up with?: >> The only movies I really remember from childhood that I still enjoy watching are Labyrinth, The Prince of Egypt, and The Pagemaster. I didn’t see a lot of movies as a child, either, aside from dry historical shit that my dad made me watch. Are you subscribed to any streaming services?: >> Netflix, Hulu, Amazon Prime. Reality shows - entertaining or horrifying?: >> The genre seems to have broadened considerably since the Survivor and Jersey Shore era, so yeah, there are some reality shows I can stand watching, like some stuff on HGTV. What is the first movie you ever saw in a cinema?: >> The Prince of Egypt. Let’s talk about what you don’t discuss at Sunday brunch Do you identify with any organized religion?: >> No. If so - is it how you were raised, or have you found your own?: >> I was raised Christian, and when I got old enough to realise that 1) it didn’t suit me and 2) I didn’t have to be chained to a religion if I didn’t want to be, I gave it up. Do you think that marijuana should be legalized?: >> I don’t have a firm opinion on that specifically. I’m sure it’d be fine if it was, but I specifically think people should stop being given ridiculous prison sentences for drug possession, and I think the War on Drugs should end, because it’s not helping anyone. If so, would that be for medical use only, or recreational?: >> I mean, if you’re going to legalise it, then... legalise it... across the board. Pro-life or pro-choice?: >> Pro-choice. Have you ever protested or been on strike?: >> I’ve participated in protests. Is gun control necessary or no?: >> Certainly. Are you happy with the political state where you reside?: >> Not currently. It seems to me like our current administration is straight-up ignoring the Constitution, and considering the Constitution is the basis of USian democracy, that seems pretty fucked up to me. I know a lot of people think that the problem is... democracy, for some reason? and no, I don’t agree with that. Democracy is the least corruptible political system I can think of, and the fact that its core tenets are being tossed out of the window of the Oval Office right now is not the system’s fault, it’s the fault of the specific people we’ve voted into office. Should abstinence or sex education be taught in schools?: >> Sex education. “Teaching” abstinence isn’t education, it’s just attempting to use fear and shame to intimidate young people into not having sex. What are they actually learning? Have you read the book 13 Reasons Why or watched the show?: >> No. Should shows like this be available to everyone or could it be a trigger?: “Um, of course they should. People with triggers become adept at knowing what they can and can’t watch and will make their choices accordingly; we’re not idiots. If I know something has torture in it, I stay away from it. Simple as that. I’m not going to deny other people the right to watch what they want.” <-- What I was going to say is basically this, but this is the succinct version so I’ll just... yep. Okay, let’s simmer down. Back to happy things. Do you like animals?: >> Sure. If so, do you have any pets?: >> No. I like animals best when they don’t live in my space. What is your favorite day of the week and why?: >> I don’t have one. Do you have a favorite season?: >> Spring. How do you enjoy nice scents? >> ??? Do you live in a large city or small town?: >> Small city. Are you happy with that or would you like to change it?: >> I’d prefer a city with more... of an identity, I guess I would say? Grand Rapids gives me the impression of a very young city, which exists in a culturally homogeneous region of the Midwest US, and it kind of just takes its cues from... what’s hot and popular in this era. I’m not saying that’s a bad thing. A lot of people love GR because it’s a forgotten city that’s had an urban renewal phase and now it’s... respectable, I guess you could say. But as far as my personal desires in a city are concerned, it’s not my kind of place. I love places that are so culturally rich that just being in them changes you fundamentally, places that are colourful and vibrant and unabashedly unique. Places that aren’t afraid to be unpolished in places, places that love their dead. I don’t know. I have a lot of feelings about this but they’re hard to make coherent. Do you have any children?: >> No. Are there any colors that you think compliment you?: >> Yeah, most of them. Do you enjoy cleaning or find it to be a chore?: >> I really don’t enjoy cleaning. I very much enjoy tidying and organising, though! What is your absolute favorite food?: >> I don’t have one.
If you were any color, what would you be?: >> I’d have to be black or white. A hue that contains or absorbs the entire colour spectrum. Do you spend a lot of time on social networks?: >> I really don’t. I’ve downsized to the point where now I only have tumblr, and I spend less time here, too. It’s... it’s nice.
