shadow's sacrifice being ultimately selfish in nature—wanting to save the one person who was somewhat kind to him without any strings attached for the first time in his short life—is one of the best things about the whole thing tbh. like here he is coming off the ass end of vio's betrayal and being vaporized by the light of the four sword and begging ganon not to revive him because he's absolutely terrified of the light and ganon ignoring him and dragging him back into it anyway and suddenly he comes face to face with zelda, shaking and sobbing like the world's most pathetic little leaf in a hurricane, and like. the thing about zelda's words to him is that they aren't even. about shadow??? as a person??? to be honest???

she looks at him and says he can be a hero because he's a LINK. because despite her previous hostility with him she sees this warped image of her best friend come crawling out of the dark mirror all hurt and scared and "faint and twisted echo" or not...he still wears the face of her best friend. and because of that i think she IS kind of projecting her own emotions about seeing her friend's face in so much pain. i mean, hell, when the dark cloud takes her, it's LINK she calls for. when she KNOWS that shadow and link aren't the same person. but projection or not, she gave shadow the first truly kind words he ever heard in his life, even if they were less about HIS character and more about link's. so when she calls for link, he answers. and that's what drives him to take on vio's image, to aid the other links, to smash the chair into the dark mirror and kill himself to take vaati down with him.

BUT! one thing i do love is that his ACTUAL acceptance of the light came when green told him that he was one of them. one panel that drives me absolutely rabid is when shadow is still disguised as vio and green finds him and instantly starts fussing over him—asking him if he's hurt, if he's alright, telling him to lean on him, etc., and when green reaches out for his hand shadow reaches back for him with his own trembling hand for just a moment before rejecting the offer ("don't worry about me." in the fan translation/"i... i'm fine." in the viz translation) and redirecting green's attention to the fact that zelda's in danger. but when green (the second person ever to be kind to him without strings attached, even though, as with zelda, it wasn't strictly for HIM at first) looks down at him and smiles and tells him that he's one of them (that he isn't alone), THAT'S when shadow reaches towards the light and accepts it without fear, wholly and completely. THAT'S him reaching back for green's hand—when green looks at him and actually sees HIM, as his own person, and still counts him as one of them anyway, even after everything. and given that shadow is still alive once the links become link as a whole again, no matter how much i think link and shadow would grumble at and argue with each other for shadow's villain spree and vio's betrayal and whatnot, that interaction is always going to be present in their minds. it's gonna be like "congratulations douchebag! now you're stuck with me no matter what! sucks to be you!" on both their ends and zelda is very kindly not going to point out that they're both grinning like morons when they turn away from each other after butting heads for the millionth time. you see my vision

Y'all have no idea about the self indulgent fic ideas I've been holding back on. The very shitposty stuff I think about while spinning my blorbos around in my head and smiling to myself. Like this one that I originally thought of for the post canon of my West Side Story/Little Shop of Horrors crossover/Anybodys x Audrey fic (which is a shitposty idea in of itself but like I think they work pretty well together in an opposites attract way and also Audrey deserves better than Seymour) but could also work for the post canon of West Side Story (with my headcanons that Anybodys was living with Tony in canon and then moved in with Ice instead post canon) where he randomly takes in a fully wild fox off the street and in the original context of it being in the post canon of that one fic it would be a metaphor for him being really weird and out of place in suburbia and by extension making him and Audrey the odd couple that get weird glances and hushed whispers from everyone but in the post canon of normal West Side Story it would be more of just a funny ha ha thing.

Or it could also be about his complicated feelings towards Tony after he misgendered him 30 seconds before dying and he hates him now for only pretending to see him as a man for the whole time they were friends and isn't sure if he was lying about seeing him as a friend too but also his feelings of friendship and platonic affection for him are still there and maybe even more intense after he got a brief bit of hope that he would rejoin the gang and then he died. And also because I headcanon that the Jets fell apart from the stress very quickly post canon he's dealing with that, not that he would have wanted to keep being a part of the gang after what they did to Anita anyway (at least, most of him wouldn't want to, there would still be a part of him that's stubbornly hanging onto that goal of being in this gang that clearly isn't going to exist for very much longer), and he's dealing with what they did to Anita and the parallels that has to some of the stuff in his history with them that he's tried to suppress ifkyk.

In my head I have this mental image of him clearly trying to fill the gaping hole left in his life by Tony and the Jets but also trying to play his struggles with all of that off while he jokes to Ice about how the fox's name is Tony because he's stealing his name, he doesn't deserve it, fuck him. The question Ice asked when he walked in through the door of his apartment was something like "What happened to the lamp?" and the answer presents itself while Anybodys is talking in the form of the culprit coming out from under the couch that Anybodys has been crashing on since his previous roommate who he will henceforth refer to as Human Tony (usually with a string of colorful insults afterwards) died a few days ago. Ice isn't getting the deposit on his apartment back. I'm actually tempted to write a oneshot of Anybodys Grabs A Wild Fucking Animal Off The Street In The Wake Of His Best Friend Turned Betrayer's Death but it's just so ridiculous. Then again it's not as ridiculous as some of the shit that happens in the prologue so it's not like I'm jumping any Sharks that haven't already had looney tunes shenanigans done to them by the Jets.

completed build: HG Susanowo (TRANS-GRAHAM Custom)!

what should have been a three-to-four-hour build escalated into a multi-day marathon due to my dogged insistence on Making Everything Shinier. such is the way.

both the gunmetal and the holographic trans-am red marker ink (as well as the holo red + red sharpie combo i used for the beam chakram) are very prone to smudging off when even slightly beset by the sinister touch of a human finger. luckily, i own plenty of nitrile gloves! unluckily, it took until the third session to realize i might want to use those nitrile gloves. live and learn...

putting this kit together was...weird! having built both the HG Union Flag and the HG Brave, i was expecting (and somewhat dreading) an old-style build with stiff joints and no polycaps to be seen. that is not at all what this kit is! it's got TONS of polycaps!! too many polycaps!!! its twiggy little legs struggle to hold up the rest of its body without doing the splits!!!!

still, it wasn't particularly expensive, the plastic took to my nippers and glass file remarkably well, painting it was ultimately pretty fun and looks cool as all hell, and it fit snugly into the final open slot (for real, this time!) of the 00-themed top shelf of my display case.

i know i don't shut up about it but i think it really truly says something about link's nature as a whole that the four of them got attached to shadow so ridiculously fast. vio at least had the excuse of hanging out with him for however long it was but it was still indicative of that same nature that he quite literally accompanied shadow in burning down a good portion of hyrule's lands and STILL quietly mourned him after they'd "killed" him. but then you have the most obvious examples of blue and green getting so unbelievably distraught when shadow "died for real this time (he did not die for real this time)" after interacting with him in a manner that wasn't "trying to murder each other" for a grand total of like. five minutes. ten minutes tops.

shadow helps them out exactly one time (and really you could see it as him just doing the bare minimum to clean up the mess he created by getting link to release vaati in the first place) and suddenly the links as a whole are like "FORGIVEN!" and if "making friends" was a button they all started hitting it so hard that it broke. shadow was like "still doesn't make me part of the body :(" and green speaking for all of them was like What the fuck are you talking about. Of course it does. We're friends. and by god is that going to influence everything that happens after the manga. like no matter what issues themselves arise between link and shadow that they're gonna have to work through (namely: vio's betrayal) if anyone ever tries to tell him that shadow still poses a threat to hyrule as a whole and he's an enemy and should be taken out then link is just gonna hit them with some flavor of this and that's gonna be the end of the conversation:
