This was sitting in my drafts forever and since I has a snow day today I finally finished it yeaaaaa.
Yugioh Arc-V au
Platonic Asuka & Yuri
Asuka pushes the Academia’s prized student as far as she can - making sure that the bars separate her and Yuri from Yusho and the others.
“Go on ahead without me! I’ll keep him distracted!”  Asuka calls to her teacher and those around him. “Teacher, you’re the only one who can talk some sense into the Professor.”
Yusho is stunned for a moment and in that time Yuri is able to gain his composure and he lets out a harsh laugh, “Oh man, I was hoping to take you all out one by one and save you for last Asuka-san.”
Asuka looks at Yuri with determined eyes, and despite her efforts, pity also sneaks into her gaze, and Yusho can’t help but feel concerned over his student, “Asuka...”
“Go, Teacher,” the former Academia solider states without looking back, “Yuri and I have some catching up to do.”
“Yes, go, go,” Yuri waves them off, “I want to enjoy this, so it might take awhile, but don’t worry I’ll catch up with guys later and card you all.”
“Sakaki-san,” Reiji grabs onto the elder entertainment duelist and ushers him down the hall, “we cannot waste any time, we need to find Akaba Leo.”
Yes, they need to find Leo Akaba and try to bring the man to his senses or at least learn as why the former engineer was doing all this, and hopefully convince the man to stop war between the dimensions. Yusho is used to losing students to the Academia, but Asuka....
The man shakes his head, ending the war is more important right now. He grabs onto Reiji and the three make their way down a different hallway leaving Asuka and Yuri alone apart from Sora who was on the other side of the barrier watching the two.
“I didn’t think I’d get my payback with you so soon,” Yuri smiles as he grabs his deck from the case on his belt and puts it into his duel disk. “You ready to feel the pain you made me felt?”
Asuka activates her duel disk and frowns at the younger boy, “Yuri....”
Ever since she arrived at the Academia, Asuka’s dueling has been meet with praise and promise, and students and teachers alike flocked to her believing she would be one the Academia’s greatest duelists.
Asuka wouldn’t lie and say she didn’t adore all the recognition she received, but all the people around her did make her feel overwhelmed at times.
This time people were surrounding her in the Academia courtyard and while the young student did her best to please all the students who gathered to her, but after feeling like she couldn’t breathe with all the people around her Asuka decided she needed to find a way out of this situation.
It was at that moment that Asuka was glad that she was taller than most of the students her age because beyond the sea of students Asuka was able to notice a young boy sitting by himself on one of the benches.
The young girl frowned at the sight, while the school was strict with its education, it’s rare to see someone alone with no friends - especially since many students were orphans who have been here their entire lives.
As politely as she could, Asuka pushed aside the countless students surrounding her and made her way to the young boy who didn’t even notice her until she was standing over him. He looked confused, and Asuka just smiled, “Hello, I’m Asuka Tenjoin. Is anyone sitting next to you?”
Yuri’s not using his standard deck, which causes Asuka to curse. While the two never got duel during their time at the Academia together, Asuka attended dozens of Yuri’s duels to cheer him on. The boy never lost any of them, but Asuka had come up a few possible counter strategies to counter Yuri’s deck.
Instead he’s using the standard Ancient Gear Soldiers deck that all Obelisk students use - that she once used, and it’s not hard for Asuka to figure why Yuri is using this deck.
“Remember this deck, Asuka-san?” Yuri asks. “The one that you once used. The one you used before you betrayed the Academia, before you betrayed me.”
“Yuri let me explain-“
“Shut it!” It was rare for the fusion solider to lose his composure but in that moment Yuri showed a rage that Asuka had never seen before. “I don’t want to hear your excuses! You left me! You left me behind! And for what? For some pathetic ‘teacher’ who can’t even stand on his own!?”
Asuka frowned, realizing that Yuri won’t listen to her now. So she did the only thing she could, and continued on with her turn.
“Yes, yes, fight back!” Yuri laughed, the darkness in his heart growing more and more, consuming him. “It’ll make it all the worthwhile when I finally crush you!”
“Asuka-san! Asuka-san!”
Before the young woman could turn to the speaker, her lower torso was embraced and arms wrapped tightly around her. Asuka laughed and patted the young boy, “Hello, Yuri. How are you today? Did your training session go well?”
The boy nodded ferociously. “It was really easy! No one here is a challenge for me.” Yuri pouted, “Can you duel me? You’re probably the only one on the island who’s strong enough to face me.”
Asuka smiles, but before she could reply to the young fusion user other Academia students passed them and spoke.
“It’s that plant freak again….”
“I don’t understand why Tenjoin-san wastes her time with him. She’s too nice for her own good…”
“Yea, it’s only a matter of time before she realizes what kind of demon he is and ditches that weed.”
Yuri stiffened and he felt something deep within him stir. Demon….nothing but a demon to these vile, worthless, pathetic huma-
The boy’s thoughts were cut off when he’s engulfed into a hug and Asuka is squeezing him so tight that he almost couldn’t breathe. It takes a few moments but soon Yuri relaxes and moves into Asuka’s touch.
“Don’t listen to them Yuri,” Asuka spoke softly. “I’m your friend and nothing can change that. I’ll always be there for you.”
Yuri took a few moments to react but soon he returned the hug. Even with all the affection Asuka gives him it takes a while for his brain to wrapped around the idea that he’s not alone anymore. And Yuri’s glad he’s not.
Asuka lost her breath and she was sure her heart was going to explode with how fast it was pounding. Academia, the place where she grew up in, she trusted had just carded one of their own for trying to escape.
Her legs gave out and on her knees all she could do was stare at her fallen comrade’s card and think, Monsters. Monsters. They were training us to be heartless monsters. Asuka’s chest tightened when she comes to a realization.
Yuri.
She had to save Yuri.
She’s going to be carded any second now but she has to warn Yuri about truth of the Academia.
Asuka hardly processed the fact that a man in a bright red coat with a powerful magician came to save her. All she could think about is how she needed to go back to the academia and get Yuri out of there.
And yet her legs brought her Sakaki Yusho’s resistance school and buckled and trembled at the thought of ever returning to Academia grounds.
Yuri looked high and low for Asuka but the boy couldn’t find her. Which was odd, it’s hard for someone to vanish on this tiny island.
The fusion user stopped in his tracks when he noticed the Professor coming up to him. “Professor! Have you seen Asuka-san. Tenjoin Asuka-san.” The boy frowned and scanned the hallways one last time, “I can’t find her anywhere.”
“Tenjoin Asuka is no longer with the Academia.” The Professor replies.
Yuri takes a step back, “Did she go to the XYZ dimension? But she would have told me if she was dispatched-“
“No,” The Professor cuts the boy off. His eyes showing no sympathy. “Tenjoin Asuka has abandoned our mission and fled the Academia. She most likely will never return.”
Yuri stumbled and his mouth moves on his own, “She can’t be gone. She won’t leave me. She promised me. She wouldn’t do that. She-“
A million thoughts ran through the fusion user’s head.
Asuka-san promised she never leave me alone.
Humans are all the same. Liars and weaklings.
Asuka-san was the first person to truly care for me.
Humans only care when it benefits them. They only care about their own feelings.
Asuka-san loves me! I know she does. She’ll come back for me! I know she will.
In this sick world filled with vile humans you can’t trust any of them. Only power and duel monsters.
“Yuri,” The Professor spoke, and slowly brought the boy out of his haze. “I know you and Tenjoin-san were close, and this is probably hard for you. So I have a proposition for you…”
That day the young boy become The Professor personal assistant, and as he began to card people the pain of Asuka became an afterthought for the boy.
Who needs love when you have power.
The fusion counterpart’s life points fell to a mere one hundred. As the boy pushed himself back up from the ground Asuka’s eyes sobered and she began to walk over to Yuri.
“I’m sorry I left you behind.” She started and she could hear Yuri’s breath hitched at her words. “But what the Academia is doing is wrong Yuri. I couldn’t stay while knowing the atrocities that we were aiding in. I should have come back for you. I should of. But-“
She was afraid.
Afraid of being carded.
Afraid of having to duel her old friends.
Afraid that the academia would convince her that what they were doing was right.
“Yuri,” she spoke softly. Yuri’s eyes widen at the tone, the same one should would use when giving him reassurance. “Come with me. I promise I’ll always be with you. Let’s stop with war. Together.”
Silence.
And then.
“No.”
Asuka froze and she feels a darkness emitting from Yuri. The boy turns to her and wears a vicious smile, “Why would want your cheap friendship when I can be the strongest in the world!?”
Before Asuka could collect her thoughts after Yuri’s response, the fusion user began his comeback in the duel and soon enough Asuka was thrown against the bars behind her and fell to the ground. Her life points hit zero and Yuri continues, “I must thank you Asuka-san. If it wasn’t for you betraying me, I would never realize that humans are truly worthless creatures, and the true beauty of holding absolute power above everyone else.”
No, Asuka can help but think, that’s not true Yuri.
The Yuri Asuka knows may be prickling around the edges and rude to people, but deep down he has a good heart and values those he cares for above all else.
This darkness around Yuri, whatever it is, must be what’s telling him these lies. What’s driving him to becoming an actual demon that many Academia students feared he was.
As Yur’s duel disk begins to glow a bright purple, Asuka can’t help but curse at herself. It she had stayed and followed the Academia, even with all the awful crimes she would have committed, or if she had been able to conquer her fear and save Yuri before this darkness was able to grow so large in Yuri’s heart she could have saved him.
“I’m sorry I failed you Yuri….”
And then Asuka knew only darkness.
