I completely forgot to post a photo of my finished dye experiment from about erm.. two months ago? This is sandalwood and alumn and I used the appropriate amount of sandalwood per g of wool. It turned out nice but is a very light shade (the light from the window makes it look darker than it is) and I think I’d need more colour (so more sandalwood) for a next skein.
Right now I’m dyeing with acid dyes and trying out different techniques to layer colour and stuff. I only have four bare skeins left but more are on their way. I’m looking forward to that because I found some very interesting blends...
What I didn’t expect with dyeing was for it to take so long. For the most part it only takes so long because of the cooling down process. I let the whole dye bath cool down to room temperature in the dye pot, I’m aiding it with a cracked window (that helps against the fog from the simmering water too) but with the big skeins it still takes over an hour to cool down. And I only have one pot. I’ve been sewing and knitting while waiting so it’s still been fun but I don’t want to wait that long to see my result! (that’s the impatient child in me..)

So I bought one kg of Merino Superwash sock yarn that’s ready for me to dye. My last dye experiments were in spring/summer and I haven’t really done much of anything mainly because I only had raw wool and when I dyed that before spinning it didn’t turn out so nice. So no that I finally found un-dyed yarn I’m at it again. My kitchen smells rather funky right now...
I’m going to try out how sandalwood and alumn trurn out.
