Thank you to @aimeeshermakes for opening my eyes. I have used a few of these but no more! Won't you join me in abandoning these? ...... OK, buckle yourselves in for this one... There are a few hashtags I keep seeing around this app that I wish we would stop throwing around. I've used some of these hashtags myself in the past, and I'm making an effort to stop using them. If it harms even a few people who might feel belittled by them, I think it's worth letting go. Addiction, eating disorders, and mental illness are not cutesy things to make jokes about. While knitting can be therapeutic, it is not therapy. It will be far more helpful if you actually need therapy to incoporate knitting into your mindfulness practice WITH A THERAPIST. Some of the hashtags to use instead suggested in the comments I love are #knittingasmindfulness and #knittingistherapeutic! If you have issues with impulse control with shopping, please actually seek help for that. It's not cute or quirky. Acting like it is a funny little personality quirk can really hurt those who are trying to make an effort to do the inner work on this. Please stop normalizing having impulse shopping sprees as a normal way to cope with how terrible everything is. Using these hashtags can contribute to minimizing or make caricatures of the struggles of people who suffering with these serious issues, and also can be really triggering for those who have been on harmful diets and fasts due to the evils of our diet culture. I would suggest trying using things like #YarnStashing or #NoMoreYarn or other things that actually describe what you are trying to do in your yarn purchasing habits rather than using the hashtags listed here. There's also the well established #StashLess. Will you join me in trying to change the way we use hashtags to minimize harm? Please feel free to add any I missed in the comments! Over break I managed to get my entire yarn stash caked and displayed on these peg boards. It’s so easy to forget what fiber you have unless you can see (and pet) it all of the time, so this takes care of the out-of-sight-out-of-mind problem. A couple of WIPs are up there, too. The Craft Loft is coming along. 😊 . Bonus: kinda looks like modern art, right? 👩🏻🎨🧶🎨 . . . . . #ourmakerlife #handmade #slowfashion #makersmovement #knitting #instaknit #knittersofinstagram #stranded #fairisle #knittersofinsta #yarnporn #yarnlove #yarnstagram #igknitters #sweaterknitting #ravelry #handknits #fairisle #strandedknitting #sweater #metropolissweater #strandedknitting #pullover #cardigan #carlinapullover #strikke #hygge #stashgoals #yarndiet / on Instagram https://ift.tt/2NNIrmD
