Ekko’s goggles flickered with blue light as he slammed the dial on the Z-Drive, the world bending and warping around him. He didn’t like using it unnecessarily, but this timeline was different. Powder’s chaos had spun out of control here, and everything screamed for his intervention.

As the world settled into place, Ekko took a deep breath, steadying himself. The streets of Zaun were warped, unfamiliar yet achingly familiar. Smoke hung low in the air, and the sounds of tinkering machines echoed in the distance.

And then he saw you.

You weren’t supposed to be here. Not in this timeline, not in this chaos. Yet, there you stood, leaning against the wall of a rundown shop, tinkering with some strange device. Ekko froze, the words caught in his throat.

“Ekko,” you said, a smile spreading across your face like you’d been waiting for him. “You’re late. Again.”

His heart stopped. That tone. That look. The way your hand reached out instinctively toward his. It was you. Somehow, still you.

“I—wait. You know me?” Ekko stammered, stepping closer. His voice cracked as his mind tried to piece it together. “Here, too?”

You blinked, tilting your head. “Of course I know you. What kind of question is that? We’ve been through thick and thin, remember?” You paused, then smirked, poking his chest. “Don’t tell me you forgot already, Time Boy.”

His breath hitched. In every universe, every timeline he traveled to, he always thought of you. But he never expected to find you in all of them.

“What’s wrong? You look like you’ve seen a ghost,” you teased, but your brows furrowed slightly as you stepped closer, studying his face.

“No, it’s just—” Ekko swallowed hard. How could he explain this without breaking everything? That the you he knew didn’t belong to this timeline, that you were together in his own world too. And yet, here you were, the same warmth in your voice, the same spark in your eyes, and still, somehow, his.

“You’re beautiful,” he said softly, unable to stop the words from tumbling out.

You raised an eyebrow but grinned. “Now you’re acting weird, even for you. What happened? Did you hit your head or something?”

He shook his head, a smile tugging at his lips. No matter the universe, no matter the odds, somehow, you were always his. And in that moment, Ekko realized something profound: the timelines might fracture and spin, chaos might reign, but you and he—you two were constant.

“Nothing’s wrong,” Ekko murmured, finally taking your hand. “Just… happy to see you.”

You rolled your eyes but squeezed his hand. “Come on, hero. We’ve got a job to do. Powder’s out there, and we’ve got a world to save.”

As you pulled him along, Ekko couldn’t help but smile. Every timeline, every version of this chaotic world—you and he found each other. And that was enough to give him hope.

The game was nearing the end, the score being a tie. Paige had just sunk a three-pointed, making the crowd go absolutely wild. The opposing team rushing to get the ball and going down the court, but they were too late. Game over. Uconn had won again.

You just couldn't shake the burden of being a failure, thinking you would never be as good as them. All because of an ACL tear.

As the crowd cheered, Paige kept looking over to you. She finally caved in and jogged over to you on the bench, taking the seat beside you and giving a soft smile.

"You good?"

"Yeah, just watching the game. Congrats on the final point, Paige." You smiled at her, a lump in your throat as the constant feeling of being a disappointment kept coming back.

She didn't answer right away, her hand coming to rest on your knee, squeezing gently. "Come on, don't lie to me, Y/n. I know you are. Don't think so badly on yourself all because you're not playing, we’re still doing this together. So don’t shut yourself out, okay?”

Your heart ached for a second, you bite your lip and nod towards her. For the first time since her injury, you let yourself believe.

The locker room was loud, everyone cheering and talking above one another, as you were sitting on the side with your leg propped up. Paige was staring at you from where she was sitting. She made her way over towards you, slipping into the spot next to you as her hand moves to your thigh.

For a moment, it was silent before Paige started speaking. "I'm proud of you, ya know? You are apart of this team, whether you're playing or not. We all need you here. I need you here."

Your heart ached for a second, you stared at Paige for a few seconds. "I love you so much, Paige." The two of your hands intertwined, Paiges' thumb stroking the back of your hand as she smiled.

Before you know it, Paige is leaning forwards into you and her lips are on yours- soft and light, her hand coming up to rest on your cheek.

The two of you part, slightly breathing heavily as your foreheads rest together. "I love you too." Paige murmured against your lips, before smiling and pressing against you again, the team being forgotten in the background.
