Nagao clan
The Nagao of Echigo claimed descent from the Taira. For many years they ruled Echigo for the Uesugi, by the early part of the 16th Century being pillars of the Yamaouchi Uesugi line. The main line of the Nagao became Uesugi in 1561, when Uesugi Kenshin assumed that name.
*Prominent people*
*Nagao Tamekage* (1489–1543) daimyo of the Nagao he Served as Deputy to Fusayoshi, shugo of Echigo Province, Tamekage led his lord's Yamanouchi Uesugi forces to victory against the Ōgigayatsu Uesugi in a series of conflicts from 1500-1505. Was the farher of Nagao Kagetora (Uesugi Kenshin)
*Nagao Kagetora* ( 1530 –1578) He changed his name to Uesugi Masatora when he inherited the Uesugi clan name in order to accept the official title of Kantō Kanrei . Later he changed his name again to Uesugi Terutora to honor the Shogun Ashikaga Yoshiteru , and finally to Kenshin after he became a Buddhist monk(*I have more information about Uesugi Kenshin under my post about the Uesugi clan*)
*Nagao Fujikage*(????-????) served under Uesugi Kenshin He was counted among Kenshin's Twenty-Eight Generals and fought on the left flank at the fourth Battle of Kawanakajima in 1561.
*Nagao Kagenao*(????-????)
Adopted son of Nagao Fujikage and vassal of Uesugi Kenshin who supported Uesugi Kagetora in the Otate no Ran after Kenshin's death. His territory was reduced after the war. In rebellion, he later defected to Oda Nobunaga.
