La Catrina - La Calavera Catrina was created circa 1910 as a reference to the high-society obsession with European customs and by extension, Mexican leader Porfirio Diaz, whose corruption ultimately led to the Mexican Revolution of 1911. La Catrina was originally called Calavera Garbancera. Calavera meaning “skull” and Garbancera being the nickname given to indigenous Mexicans who denied their cultural heritage – instead aspiring to adopt high-society European culture.
Mammon - Mammon, also known as Mamyun and Prince of Greed, is one of the Seven Princes of Hell, being the Demon who personifies and represents greed, as well as avarice, wealth, abundance, prosperity, wealth and injustice, sometimes interpreted as a deity. During the middle ages, mammon was personified as Mammon, the demon of greed and avarice, who was one of the seven deadly sins and a Prince of Hell. As a demon, Mammon has been associated with pagan gods, such as Dis Pater, the Roman god of the underworld and wealth, and Plutus, the Greek god of abundance and wealth.

Hodag - In the 1800s, Rhinelander was a pioneer lumber town, and loggers who worked the Northwoods told stories of a monster roaming the forests. Legend had it that this “Hodag” was the reincarnated spirit of the sturdy, hardworking oxen that dragged logs from the forest. After cornering the creature, a long battle ensued whereupon the beast was consequently destroyed by dynamite blasts during the fight. Gene Shepard named this creature he had discovered, a “Hodag”.
Black cat - Samhain, it was believed that the Cat Sìth—a Celtic fairy creature that was said to resemble a large black cat with a white spot on its chest. Black cats are often a symbol of Halloween or witchcraft. When the Pilgrims arrived at Plymouth Rock, they brought with them a devout faith in the Bible.

Tsuchingumo - Tsuchigumo mainly live in forests and mountains, where they build their homes in silk tubes, where they are ambushing for the victims which pass by. They rely on illusion and trickery to humans. Tsuchigumo has a very wide selection of forms, and has a lot of ambitions in the mind. The giant spider-like figure of the tsuchigumo as a oni-like yōkai first appeared in medieval literary works. The most representative work among these tales is The Tale of the Heike, compiled in the Kamakura period (1185–1333) in the first half of the 13th century, in which it appears under the name yamagumo (山蜘蛛, "mountain spider"). As the tsuchigumo passed through the ages, it became a more bizarre-looking yōkai.[6] In the 14th-century emakimono Tsuchigumo Sōshi, the tsuchigumo is depicted as a giant yōkai 60 meters long, and when it was exterminated, 1990 heads of the dead came out of its belly.
Halloween is coming soon I’m getting ready for both inktober and other art challenges I’m doing tomorrow.

EXAMINE: mountain shrine (Yui)
examine [ . . . ] = accepting!
it's a jizo statue... you think. it is horribly worn down and has vines growing all over it. despite its familiar appearance, you know better than to place anything in it. it simply shields a cave that you've been in twice - where the yamagumo lives.
logically, you'd best be on your way now that you got what you came for. lingering is asking for trouble.
however, it is a beautiful day, and you are a horrible, petty child. you rifle through your bag and find your glitter gel pen. you deface the rocks with some silly drawings; dogs, cats, fish... you would write something too, but you know you're not very good at that.
Tumblr media
you huff, pocketing your pen with a flourish when you're done. you spin on your heel and start down the path back to town.

from where it is concealed, it smiles. humans, spirits... they cannot help but react when something they care for is threatened, be it another entity, thing, or their existence. that is how it knows where to put its web. one thread of connection is all it needs, and now it can use that. damage the thread a little, see where the humans run - see who they run to. use those connections to weave new threads, and catch more flies. this "chat" is just the beginning.
don't hurt her. i'll hurt you if you try. i don't matter, but i'll fight. stay away from her.
argument? you wanted to have a chat, so we are conversing. i have conceded to your threat and accepted your demands since i, too, can foresee what foolish actions might wreak on my carefully-knit play set.
a minion crawls up from the side of the cliff. it ignores kotori completely as it collects the limbs of the corpse in its pinchers. the minion turns and skitters up the cave wall.
the other fowl care naught about me 'till i am closer to their shrine. you are the only one who hounds me on the streets. your reluctance confirms my suspicions as to why.
rumbling. two of malice's legs appear on either side of the cliff, slowly sweeping toward kotori.
i do not care for your sibling. she is a good source of sustenance as is; i have to do nothing for her to be tormented. what i care about... is that you are the only feather opposing me. goodnight, little down feather.
malice's head bursts through the mist again, the yamagumo present in all his hideous glory. thick bundles of spectral threads burst out from the ground, threatening to impale.
run. run, run away... if you can.

Today, USS Johnston, Gambier Bay, St. Lo, and Samuel B. Roberts are sunk by the Japanese Centre Fleet. Together with them go Kumano, Haguro, and Tone.
Just a few hours prior, battleships Fuso and Yamashiro, cruiser Mogami, and destroyers Michishio, Yamagumo, and Asagumo were sunk by Admiral Jesse Oldendorf's heavyweight fleet that had six battleships in it, five of which had been at Pearl Harbor.
Just a few hours later, Zuikaku, Chitose, Chiyoda, Zuiho, Tama, Akizuki, and Hatsuzuki are sunk by Halsey's TF 38.

Battle of Surigao Strait: October 24-25, 1944
In the next phase of the Battle of Leyte Gulf, U.S. and Australian warships assault the advancing Japanese Southern Force "C" enemy with torpedoes and heavy guns resulting in the Battle of Surigao Strait during the night of October 24, 1944. In the resulting battle ending the following day, the Japanese lost the battleships Fuso and Yamashiro and the destroyers Michishio, Asagumo, and Yamagumo. The battle holds the distinction of being the last naval battle in which air power did not play a part, except in pursuit. As such, it was the last U.S. Navy's last battle-line engagement. U.S. Navy battleships participating were USS Mississippi (BB-41), USS Maryland (BB-46), USS West Virginia (BB-48), USS Tennessee (BB-43), USS California (BB-44), and USS Pennsylvania (BB-38). Except for Missisippi, all these battleships were damaged during the attack on Pearl Harbor in December 1941. In addition to the warship engagements, U.S. Navy patrol boats engaged the enemy. Thirty-nine of the boats were in 13 sections, consisting of three boats eacch and were successful in hitting the Japanese light-cruiser Abukuma.

Battle of Surigao Strait: Veterans recall horrors of World War II
#PHnews: Battle of Surigao Strait: Veterans recall horrors of World War II
REVISITING THE PAST. Retired Royal Admiral Guy Richmond Griffiths (left), 97, and David Henry Mattiskie, 96, (center) join the three-day commemoration of the 75th anniversary of the historic Battle of Surigao Strait, from October 23 to 25, 2019 in Surigao City. SURIGAO CITY -- Retired Royal Admiral Guy Richmond Griffiths and David Henry Mattiskie, both part of the Australian Navy when the World War II broke out, arrived in town to join the three-day commemoration of the 75th anniversary of the historic Battle of Surigao Strait from October 23 to 25, in this city. The Australians were allied with the United States and the Philippines that fought the Imperial Japanese forces. Griffiths, now 97 years old and Mattiskie, 96, flew back to the Philippines to join the event. “War is a dreadful part of civilization,” Griffiths told PNA in an interview as he expressed gratitude to those who sacrificed their lives for the peace that nations and their citizens are enjoying nowadays. “You come from peace and suddenly, somebody wants to create war,” Griffiths recalled the time when Japan declared war against the US and bombed Pearl Harbor and parts of the Philippines, particularly Davao. He said war remains a horrible experience for humans as millions die and countries enormously devastated. Griffiths said that at his age, he could not still understand what anyone would get from the death of millions of people "and the colossal devastations of countries and communities." “My question is: what’s been achieved from these aggressions? Countries have to rebuild. Fathers, sons, daughters, and families were killed. It’s dreadful,” Griffiths asked. He said the key to maintaining peace in the world today is mutual understanding and good relationships among nations. “We need to talk to each other and maintain good relationships and understanding between people, rather than aggressive,” Griffiths said. Early morning battle Griffiths can still recall where he was positioned during the historic Battle of Surigao Strait that started the early morning of October 25, 1944. He was on board the HMAS Shropshire, an Australian gun cruiser serving as Assistant Control Officer. “On the morning of the 25th of October, we started firing just before 4 o'clock or at 3:56 in the morning,” Griffiths told PNA in an interview. “When we were firing, I was the Assistant Control Officer. The firing was from down below but I could see all the firing that was going on,” he added. Since it was still dark, Griffiths said all he could see from the distance are fires in Japanese ships that were badly-hit by torpedoes. “One exploded. I could only see the explosions, the fire,” he said. Mattiskie said he was at the bridge when the firing started. “We were firing at 4 in the morning. I was on board the HMAS Shropshire. I was at the bridge at that time listening to what was happening. I knew that the Americans were also firing their torpedoes towards the enemy ships,” he said. Griffiths said the firing stopped at past 4 a.m. “and that was the end of the battle.” Six Japanese warships, under the command of Vice-Admiral Shoji Nishimura, were destroyed during the Battle of Surigao Strait: Fuso, Yamagumo, Asagumo, Yamashiro, Michishio, and Mogami. Nishimura was among the more than 4,000 Japanese sailors who perished during the battle. The historical account said 39 American sailors were also killed during the Battle of Surigao Strait. (PNA)

So if I’m to go Hard on E4 I’ll have to get Michishio and get her to good enough levels.
I’m a bit sad, especially since I had Yamagumo once upon a time.
