My favourite bits from Yakumo's Book II
I know it's been a while since its release, but I was recently going through a Notepad file from back then where I made diligent notes for the whole book :p.
(understandably, contains spoilers)
-
Episode 27:
Futaba: ...If I give up now, they'll be turned into fodder for the experiments. When I finally get out those words, Professor Yakumo sighs. Yakumo: …Understood. Futaba: Huh? Yakumo: As you are so passionate about it, I will also look for a way to stop these experiments. I look to Tatsu to see if he's just as surprised as I am. Nachi: C-Can you just… decide that on a whim? I thought General Oyama forced you to help out? Yakumo: None of that matters. To me, what is most important is that my precious doll is not hurt.
-
Episode 32:
Kagemaru: You sure she'd be safer here? Yakumo: It was you who called her insurance, no? Yakumo: If even the slightest scratch blemished her skin-- The smile falls from Yakumo's face at Kagemaru's taunt. Yakumo: You would do well to remember I could easily fell this entire organisation.
-
Episode 33:
(about Yakumo and the Senkitai) Nachi: I can't believe he knew where to find them… Nachi: And then he had the guts to actually join with them?!
-
Episode 34:
Mototaka: So… What do you wish to speak with me about? Yakumo: Allow me to be frank. I wish to borrow your daughter. I aim to stop a certain military project, and I need my doll to make that happen. Mototaka: Yakumo, are you listening to yourself? Mototaka: You are a dear friend of mine, but even our friendship could not convince me to acquiesce to that request.
-
Episode 43:
Futaba: ...I don't need immortality. Fear and worry threaten to strangle me, but I push the words out. Yakumo: ... Futaba: It wouldn't make me happy. Neither would living here in secrecy. Futaba: I'd rather be with Father. With the people I love. Futaba: ...Living for so long would be too lonely to bear. Yakumo: ...! He blinks in some kind of realisation, and then I watch as his expression falls.
-
Episode 55:
Yakumo: I am a coward. Futaba: Y-You told me that before. Yakumo: I'm weak… Futaba: …And that's fine. Yakumo: I tried to lock you away. Futaba: That… was less fine, admittedly.
Also from the same episode:
Yakumo: Would you like to broker another deal with me? Taketora: …A deal? Yakumo: First, I will not be returning to my cell. Yakumo: Nor will I be providing my blood for the Youjin Project, which I officially wash my hands of. (…!) General Oyama's brow furrows in confusion. Taketora: …This is not the start of a particularly convincing deal.
-
Epilogue:
Yakumo: As one of us lacks a soul, this destined meeting may not await us in the future. He laughs bitterly, and I quickly take and squeeze his hand. Futaba: ...We'll be fine. Yakumo: ... Futaba: My soul will be reborn and seek you out. Futaba: I'll find you no matter where you are. I refuse to leave you alone.

Chapter 168:
In a foreign land, a woman threatens a shrouded man into compliance by saying he must assist in the awakening of Vishnu. The guy says humans can't handle Hindu gods but the woman says that the Holy Coffin has been discovered.
She gives him an ultimatum: work with them and they will give him the item he's looking for; go against them and they'll kill him and everyone he knows. To make matters worse, the guy...is Haan.
So Yakumo, still in the machine, is fought by the younger Madurai/Benares guy while Madurai's voice coaches him on combat. He does bad, even if he knows the point of the test is to train him to keep his head under pressure. Madurai then gives him an incentive: pass the first test and he will give him a hint as to where he and Pai are going. Yakumo comes out of the machine, pissed, and asks Gonzales if he managed to figure out where Sean is going. Gonzales says no and they need to pass the machine's test to know anything. Yakumo doesn't want to use phones or computers to investigate because Benares can hack (as shown in the school story) so it's just him and the Machine. But he has a visitor from Japan: Youko!
Meeting with him over tea, she says she's been worried about him because she hasn't heard from him in a week. He says he's been busy with the Machine, needing to beat it to get Sean to spill the beans on how to beat Benares or who Benares even is. He says Pai might know everything but he's still in the dark. Youko says she's jealous because Yakumo trusts Sean so much. And she wants a lover too! That's when she gives Yakumo a postcard she received from a guy named Haan, which is only slightly less creepy than I thought it would be. Thankfully, Yakumo says that she should leave that idiot alone but Bakinpa comes by and Yakumo asks him to make them dinner for him and Youko. Youko wants to take care of Haan first but Yakumo says a guy like him should just die anyway.
Bakinpa introduces himself to Youko, asking about Japan. She says it's fine but it rains all the time, reminding Yakumo of something the letter said about the rainy season in Japan. He pours water on the postcard and it reveals a hidden message, revealing his Vishnu situation. The chapter ends with Yakumo saying he needs Bakinpa to lend him some money...and to book him a flight.

Yakumo was studying at the nearby college and was a lover of books. His black aura snakes came out and hissed at him, and Yakumo turned to look in the direction. His bright pinkish colored eyes widened as he saw he was being stared at, and he blushed. "Sorry, was I being too loud????" He stammered out. The black aura snakes retreated inside him again.
Yakumo was looking through the library at the adventure romance books. He pushes his glasses up and adjusts the pile of books he was holding. "I'm glad they got the new book in the series in. I can't wait to read it" He didn't know he was being watched by someone.
anthony wanted a rest day from stream. he was at the library, wanting to see if he could find anything as reading material. maybe if its interesting enough, he'd get the audiobook copy and have it on stream so he can share it with his followers.
he looked up, not really paying much mind to the patrons here in the library. that is he found one that stood out. he raised a brow, leaning against the table and watched them. he noticed the amount of books he had, wondering if he's a student or just someone who loved to read.

In A Daze. (ft. Louis & Yakumo)
I don't know if people still like Code Vein but I do and that's enough justification for me to post this on my blog ( ̄ω ̄;)
prompt: we suck at the game so we keep dying Your partner watches in horror as you die over and over again, somehow stuck in a never-ending loop of pain and loss. Inspired by KagePro's Kagero Days.
warning: mentions of graphic deaths and trauma ; I'm sorry if it's really messy compared to what I usually write, I just wanted to blurb on about Code Vein again \(º □ º l|l)/
As Revenants, it was normal to come back to life after death, as long as their heart wasn't destroyed. In the beginning, he believed that that was merely what was happening, that you were simply coming back to life after dying again. But at some point, he noticed that this was much more than just a mere revival, as every waking moment felt like a routine he had been repeating over and over again.
Yakumo Shinonome
Yakumo was at a loss, and was starting to believe that everyone at the base was messing with him. After all, despite not having much to do there, there was no way everyone was able to repeat the exact same movements they did the day before.
There was no way Louis had not moved on from the same page of his book, nor was there any reason for Coco to tell him that it was the same day of the same month again. Nor was there any reason for Yakumo to have such vivid memories of you dying so many different deaths while everyone else tells him he's crazy, as you had merely sustained too much injuries in your last skirmish but were close to reaching full recovery.
"No, I swear! Yesterday, they were impaled by Jack..."
Everyone looked at him with their eyebrows raised.
"Yakumo, you know Revenants can't come back after having their hearts destroyed."
Louis says as he places a hand over Yakumo's tensed shoulders and tells them to rest, that perhaps the last skirmish had taken a toll on him as well. The raven-haired Revenant also recommended that his friend sit out the today's expedition, but much to everyone's surprise, Yakumo lashes out at Louis.
"No! I need to stay beside them! I-" Yakumo catches himself and calms down, "I'll rest for a bit, but I'm not sitting out on the mission."
Much like every other vivid dream Yakumo had, he, yourself and Louis would later head out to the Gaols to purify more bloodsprings an mistles.
Yakumo was on high edge the second he saw one of the Gaol's horrific beasts along the path, just like what he saw in one of his dreams.
He leads them along to a secret path to avoid confrontation with the beast, and were fast approaching the area where he knows a few bloodthirsty Revenants lay in wait. He tells to prepare much early, and to be cautious of their backs as there was a revenant laying in wait for them after they defeat these others out and about.
The whole journey, Yakumo guides them, perfectly getting them out of what would otherwise be messy or fatal situations.
When you ask your red-haired partner just how he was able to lead them through the path as if he knew it at the back of his hand, it took Yakumo all his strength not to tell them, I saw you here again and again.
And finally, at the end of their path, he was expecting to see Jack, much like the other time. He was caught in shock however when he saw an extremely powerful horrific beast of the mists instead.
It was a hard fought battle, but Yakumo was convinced that he wouldn't let you die here. Due to his conviction, he never once faltered even as he stood in between you and that monster's attack, and he himself got impaled through the chest.
It's a shame, he thought. But at least now, they can continue on living.
Those were his last thoughts before fading into dust.
The next day, you awaken at the base, but didn't move from your bed. You were listening on the conversation the others were having, about how Yakumo has been having nightmares of you dying over and over again.
"When will this ever end..." You whimper underneath your breath.
Louis Amamiya
Unlike Yakumo, Louis would have realized that this was no mere coincidence. That for some reason, he was stuck in a loop, and only he remembers whatever happens.
He, however, bears this realization all in silence. This time, however, he'll try to do things differently.
When his eyes lands on your resting figure as you recover from the injuries you sustained in the "last" battle, Louis felt pain in his chest. On one hand, at least you're back to him, on the other, you were fated to leave him again, only to return to this very same day.
"I'm calling off today's expedition. Forgive me."
Louis tells to the gang after you woke up. Yakumo points out that he looked extremely out of it, and that calling off the mission for today was a smart decision.
Louis then spends the entire day with you, never having you farther than arms length, which made everyone curious.
"Did you just call off today's mission to spend the whole day with your lover?" Coco teased, which prompted others to join in. He was unable to answer them, and simply buried his face at the crook of your neck to hide his embarrassment.
"Get a room, you two!" Yakumo said at the sight.
Though you didn't mind that your lover was suddenly showering you in so much attention, he was never one to call off a mission simply just to spend time with you.
Louis had always been goal-motivated and wasn't a slacker, so you were worried that something must be bothering him to the point where he had to cancel your expedition.
"It's nothing much, love. Just, I'm tired, is all."
Louis said weakly, his red eyes which usually shined so bright had for once looked so dull.
Much to his delight, the day was going along smoothly. He was slowly starting to convince himself that maybe today, the cycle will finally end.
"What!? How'd that get in here- Louis, (Y/N)!" Yakumo called out, to them, and immediately the two of you darted out of your shared room and head on outside the base.
"What are the creatures from the Gaol of Mists doing here!?" Louis said as he prepared for combat.
Just when you were about to arm yourself, your lover immediately stopped you and instead tells you to run away.
The two of you end up arguing amongst yourselves, which would prove to be your downfall.
"(Y/n)! Behind you!" Davis shouts out.
You looked to see one of the horrific beings coming for you, but your reflexes had not kicked in yet, and you were about to be killed.
That was when Louis shoved you aside, and you watched in horror as the horror from the Gaol ravaged your lover.
The next day however, Louis awakens with regret as he sees you again, sleeping on the bed as you were recovering from your injuries.
"Why...Why hasn't it ended?"

[I don’t know how well received this will be but it’s gonna be long so heads up!]
Random hcs I just thought of pt.1
Louis Amamiya
- So I have this idea that since he’s a heavy book lover, he would cherish those babies and get so hurt when he sees a book that’s been water damaged or ruined.
- Especially when someone decides to whack someone else upside the head with them. Like you could see his face visibly change to horror and you just hear this squeak at the book abuse he’s just witnessed.
- I feel he would read some average books but when he’s bored? He reads some of the more outlandish things he’s found. A book about the history of games? He’s read it once when he didn’t understand what the hell Murasame was going on about. Curious about the war of Kudzu? He’ll be somewhere reading books about plant warfare. This man will read the most unexpected topics and he will sometimes rattle off those weird ass facts that he learns and you can’t tell me otherwise
- I feel like in his pursuit of knowledge he would be amazing at still life art because identifying wildlife would be crucial but if you ask him to draw in his spare time? he will draw you a stick figure because he’s only good at drawing plants and that’s all you’ll get out of him.
Yakumo Shinonome
- Alright so I feel this teddy bear of a man can’t draw anything imaginative to save his life but give him rulers, pencils and what you need and he will be able to come up with a blueprint and start building what you asked for so long as you give him a base idea
- I would feel because of that he and Louis got along because yeah he has a past with mercenary work but also the fact that he was able to convert the church they found into the home base we know and love today? I’m certain the two of them would bond because the math and the damn work it would take to make sure anything was more or less structurally sound would impress Louis because let’s be real, that sweet nerd probably wouldn’t be that great with building like Yakumo would
Mia Karnstein
- So she strikes me as the type to admire people who have musical talent because she herself doesn’t have any but I could see her being really good at coming up with the most amazing fairytales to keep Nicola interested
- Also she’s the older sister who I could see helping Nicola through levels before the collapse and would learn how to play games just so she could play with him, especially if he had a hard day
- Speaking of games, I feel like for how sweet she seems to be, her best genre if she played games for fun in her own spare time? Fighting games. Specifically things like Street Fighter or Super Smash Bros and she would be the one who would play either Kirby or Solid snake and there is no in between
- Building off of that, I feel like her and Murasame would’ve became the best of friends because one day Murasame would be strugging with a level and Mia would notice and ask to help and BOOM she absolutely crushes it and now they hang out all the time because of it
- Lastly she always tries to adjust her dress strap but it never tightens as much as she needs it to and she’s always had that luck that any strap she wore would always be too loose on one side no matter how hard she tries to make sure it stay secure and so she just gave up on fixing it after a while and when people point it out, she’s just like “Yeah I know”

What kind of lover is: Louis
• This boy is a cuddler, especially if he’s reading a book with S/O. Will fully take advantage of having the sit in his lap, and resting his chin on top of his head.
• Loves holding S/O’s hand, will always try to weave his fingers into theirs every chance he can get
• Will get flustered easily if other PDA is done, he would usually like to have S/O to himself.
• Would also get more flustered if people are giving him shit for having hickies or being too loud. Especially if Karen joins them.
• In private, he will probably tell S/O anything and everything.
• S/O sees him geek out a lot if it’s about his research or one of the comic books that was brought back.
• His kisses are super soft and slow, he likes to treasure them so will do it for long amounts of time.
• Louis knows how the world can be, so he will spend every waking moment making sure S/O is safe, while also trying to achieve his goal.
• He does feel sometimes he doesn’t deserve his S/O, so they have to reassure him a lot.
• Before the relationship, Yakumo was giving Louis shit for pining all the time. But in all good fun, he just wants them to get together already!
• Louis would also attempt to flirt like one of the gentleman types he’s read about. S/O laughed, but they loved it even though he got embarrassed.

Ayakashi RR Guide Prt. 1 : How to get More Main Story Keys for Free
One of the many questions I get from others that play the game is: "So which stories have you played?" My answer is simple and a bit of a flex, but, ALL of them 😂. People then ask me, "How do you get so many? Do you use money?"
The answer is no, I don't use money, but I have found ways to gather a lot of keys in my own way. So, I'll be showing what I do to get more keys! 🗝
1. Patrolling
* (Process: Tedious)
This is no surprise, the main way to gain keys is to patrol and level up. Now, this is all smooth sailing until your level gets higher. As your level increases, the slower it will be to get to the next level, and the more patrols you will have to do. With this slow cycle, you'll find it slow to get keys.
However, there are ways to make this process a little bit more bearable:
TIP #1: MIDNIGHT PATROLS
For those that are higher leveled, I recommend patrolling on Midnight from Monday to Saturday, especially the Northern District. You get more level points from this.
TIP #2: SUNDAY DAILY PATROLS
With Sunday Daily Patrols, you get experience bonus, thus making the process of leveling faster. For low level players, start with Nachi. In the middle level players, Yakumo is good. And for higher level players, Tatsuomi is best since he gives the most experience! If you have any omelettes or castella cakes, use them to refill all or half your LP on Sundays! If you don't have those, you can use five diamonds to refill all LP if you want to (I suggest doing this if you prioritize keys over cards).
TIP #3: FEVER
Enabling FEVER allows for more experience during the patrols. So, I HIGHLY RECOMMEND choosing your partner during patrols to have FEVER, especially on Midnight and Sunday Daily Patrols. Yes, doing this is tedious considering you can just press the Auto button, but more experience allows you to get your main story key a little faster.
2. Shop!
*(Process: Okay-Fast)
The shop is your friend. And no, I don't mean buying diamonds or packages. For those that don't know, the shop is available when you go to Menu. Now, in the shop there are two ways to get keys:
1. EXCHANGE SHARDS
For those that have saved up a good amount of shards, you can purchase one main story key for 300 diamond shards. This regenerates on the weekend, so you can have a key every week if you have enough shards. You can obtain shards by the following:
Milk Hall Invites
Daily Missions
Special Missions
Event Point Ranking Prizes
2. EXCHANGE MEDALS
This new feature added to events allows players to exchange medals gained from events, and trade them in for prizes. Keys are 25 medals each and the limit is four per date range. I don't know exactly when the date resets go through if it's weekly or not, but just look at the highlighted blue dates on top for the rest time! Medals are obtained during:
Event Point Ranking Prizes
3. Special Draws
*(Process: Meh)
Personally, this is my least favorite way to obtain keys. Unless you have the diamonds, go for it, but I stick to not spending money as much as possible. So, for this one, I don't do much but if you really want to gain keys from this, here are my tips:
TIP #1 : USE SR TICKETS
If you have any SR tickets and want those keys, use them here. You can buy SR tickets at the shop for shards and medals (which are easier to obtain compared to diamonds) as well as get them as rewards from badges. Badges that offer SR tickets as a reward are:
Dawn Faction Lover!
Twilight Faction Lover!
Night Faction Lover!
These badges are unlocked by:
Dawn: Have one SR/SSR of Koga, Kuya, Ginnojo, Aoi, and Yura (5 Total)
Twilight: Have one SR/SSR of Toichirou, Shizuki, Kuro, Oji, and Gaku (5 Total)
Night: Have one SR/SSR of Nachi, Aki, Kagemaru, Tatsuomi, and Yakumo (5 Total)
TIP #2: DRAW X1
If you want to have more draws, I recommend using the Draw x1. This way, you can draw 10 individual draws. The Draw x10 DOES NOT mean 10 individual draws, so be careful! Yes, it's not effective when trying to get rare cards, but if you prioritize keys over cards, this will work best for you. However, I suggest only going up to 10 draws if you don't have many diamonds.
4. Event Point Ranking Prizes
*(Process: Okay)
If there is an event going on, you can get keys by the point system by duels. This process can be time consuming, and doesn't work in favor for busy people as well. Here are some tips for more points:
TIP #1: DUEL POWERFUL & STRONG
If you want those keys, to get a lot of points I would recommend dueling with the Powerful and Strong. Average is so-so, but Weak you can reject, it will just waste your SP.
TIP #2: USE SUNDAES & MILK
If you have sundaes and milk, use those to restore your SP especially when a powerful or strong opponent is ready to duel. It will help alleviate having to wait for the restore time.
5. Badge Rewards
*(Process: Only can be Done by Reading)
What do I mean by "Only can be Done by Reading?" Well, it's exactly what I mean, you get one free key when you get the following badges:
Comrade of Dawn
Comrade of Twilight
Comrade of Night
You can only get these badges by reading the first book of each faction story arc. It's not really a way of getting more keys but it is a way to get keys 😅
6. Daily Login
*(Process: Very Simple)
If you don't know, you can get a free key when you login on the 5th and 20th of each month. Nachi will appear on the screen and give you the key. However, you can also get free keys when there is a special event login that offers them! So be updated and at least login everyday to see if you have that chance!
🍀Good Luck

agsghsjsk half of me wants to say 4 (can I kiss you) with Louis/Marleu but I'll go with "would you just hold still" THANK YOU LOVE YOU
Mmm hi, I am so so sooo sorry this took so long to get done! For some reason, this prompt just… through me for a loop and combined with RL stuff it took a bit to figure out what to do. But I think I came up with something pretty nice. Please enjoy!
From this Prompt List: #8 ‘Would you just hold still?’Word Count: ~2530
____
Marleu stared at the large stacks of books in front of her, as well as the now empty bookshelf in front of her and the young man who had asked her to help him reorganize his things. It was a quiet day at the church, Yakumo and Mia had gone out to help Coco bring some supplies to a human shelter, Rin was busy doing who knows what with Io, and Davis was not scheduled to visit the church that day. That left the two of them with little to do and Louis getting frustrated with how his desk space was slowly beginning to become a safety hazard.
“Yakumo always joked that my next death would be because I tripped and a large pile of books fell on my head. I’m starting to think he wasn’t far off.” Louis shook his head as he looked at the mess in front of him, then turned to her. “Are you sure you want to help me with this?”
“You asked if I could and I have nothing else to do today.” Marleu said with a shrug. She had done a little training in the morning while Yakumo was still around, but other than that for her it had been quiet and uneventful. When she asked Louis if he needed help, he had been more willing to take it, but just seeing the piles in front of her made her realize she was signing up for quite the daunting task. “But… you have a lot of books, Louis.”
“Yes, I know.”
“A lot.”
Louis sighed.
“Let’s start with that pile.” He pointed to one of the smaller piles and climbed onto the chair. Then after some hesitation, climbed onto his desk to reach the top shelf. Marleu watched him, biting the side of her lip. “Okay, just hand me whatever you grab from there.”
“You should be using a ladder, Louis,” she said. Louis shrugged.
“I’ll be fine. Hand me the books in that pile.”
Marleu raised an eyebrow as her eyes shifted from him to the desk, but grabbed a few books in the pile and passed them to him. She watched as he took them and awkwardly shifted his weight, trying to keep his balance as he put the books back on the shelf. “Okay, I think I can double stack most of these, that should give us a little more space.”
“If you say so.”
Marleu handed him another set of books and watched as he straightened and he took a step a little too far to the left. Her eyes widened. “Careful…” She muttered. He stumbled, but regained his balance and put his hand to the bookshelf to steady himself before putting the books away. Marleu let out the breath she had not even realized she had been holding. Louis really should have been using the ladder. He motioned for the next set of books and with great reluctance Marleu grabbed some and handed them to him.
They worked in silence for a bit, then Marleu picked up a book and stopped when she noticed a small bookmark hanging out of it. “I think you forgot to finish this one.”
“What do you mean?” He asked turning to her. The slight frown on his face made it clear he wasn’t sure what she was talking about. Marleu handed him the book, and he turned it in his hands. It was simple and unassuming enough. The cover had long been destroyed and the book itself, while a hardcover, had noticeable damage on the spine.
“It doesn’t look familiar… but this bookmark is mine…” He opened the book and flipped to the page in question. “I might have been reading at one point and forgotten about it. Wouldn’t surprise me.”
“What’s it about?” Marleu asked. Louis frowned and read a few lines.
“I think it’s a romance novel. Let’s see…” He said, falling quiet as he read the lines in front of him. A man was in the kitchen sitting at the table, waiting for the woman he had believed would be the woman of his life to come home. He mused about how he hurt he had seen seeing her with that other man down the street. Apparently they had had some kind of fight earlier that day and he believed the man she had been speaking too may have been another lover.
Finally she stepped into the house. The scene shifted from the foreboding dread that came from the inevitable misunderstanding to arguing as he demanded to know the identity of the man she had been seeing. More arguing, more her telling him it was none of his business and him demanding that it was because he was her fiance and he felt intimidated by the fact she had been talking to another man. Then just as the arguing was reaching its head, it stopped.
The man had been an old friend she had been visiting in town. She had wanted to talk to him to… ‘clear some air’ as the text described it. Things were… complicated, but she believed they settled it. The man took a few steps forward. She took a step back. He moved closer and told her not to move.
‘What are you doing?’
‘Would you just hold still?’
He took a step closer, the gap between the two leaving as he placed his lips to hers and…
“O-oh…” Louis blinked as he read the next few lines. So this was the direction this text was going. “Huh…”
“Louis.” He jumped and looked down to see Marleu staring up at him, one of her hands resting on her hip in annoyance. “Earth to Louis, what’s it about?”
“Uh…” It took him a second to get his bearings and shook his head. “I-it’s nothing.”
He knew from his voice he did not even sound remotely convincing and the look on Marleu’s face proved it. “Louis, your face is as red as my hair.” She said, pointing to herself before stepping forward, “Come on, it can’t be that bad if it held your attention that long.”
“I-I mean it’s not bad, but it’s well…” He trailed off, suddenly unsure how to feel about Marleu finding out what kind of content was in the book. Or one of the many things he enjoyed reading in his spare time. However, before he could wrack up some kind of reasonable answer, Marleu was climbing onto his chair and startled by her speed he stepped back so quickly he lost his balance, gravity took over, and slammed right into the floor.
“Louis!” Marleu jumped off the chair and carefully crossed to where the young man lay sprawled out on the floor. “I’m so sorry, are you-”
Louis grunted and slowly sat himself up. “I think you were right about the ladder.” He mumbled. Marleu helped him fully sit up and with some effort helped him lean against the empty bookshelf. He winced from the pain. Nothing broken or needing regeneration, but he was sure he would have a few bruises on his arm and his leg.
“A-are you okay?” Marleu asked. “You didn’t hit your head, did you?”
“N-no, I’m fine.” Louis said. Even so the girl reached a hand out. He jumped a little at her fingers touching his forehead, “Marleu-”
“Would you just hold still?” She asked. He froze for a brief second, then looked up at her. The worry was clear on her face. Her red and black eyes studied him, glancing up and down, even as he fingers twitched as they grabbed the air. He closed his eyes, let out a breath, and stopped moving. After a bit, Marleu put her hands to his hair again.
It felt strange at first, feeling her fingers against his scalp. He couldn’t remember the last time he felt a touch so gentle, but he soon relaxed into it, letting her run her fingers through his hair and check his head to make sure he had not hit it during his tumble. “I’m so sorry…” Her voice made him open his eyes and he couldn’t help but notice she had gotten a little closer.
“It’s not your fault.” He said. “Like I said you were right about the ladder.”
“That’s not what I’m talking about and you know it.” She said and Louis sighed as he glanced down at the book lying on its side. He picked it up.
“Here.” He said, holding it out to her. “It’s fine. I’ll die of embarrassment later.”
She took it. “It can’t be that bad.” She opened the book and began reading the passage and when Louis saw her cheeks take on an undercurrent of red, he knew she had reached the part he had read over. “Well, uh… I guess when you said you’d read anything, you meant it?”
“Yeah… I did…” Louis said, eyes moving to the ceiling as he tried to keep the redness in his face from becoming even worse. He wondered if this would be the part where she would get mad at learning he read more… ‘adult’ content or get up and hurry away. Or tease him about it like Yakumo or - from what he remembered - Cruz sometimes did. He saw her blink a few times as she read the lines a little more than looked at him.
“Is this the kind of love story you like reading?”
Louis stared at her for a moment than after carefully thinking about his question through answered, “…roughly. Like I’ve said before I’ll read just about anything so yeah I won’t deny I enjoy a handful of… erotic literature. But…” he paused trying to find the right words, “I think I prefer something with a little more depth to it.”
“Depth?” Marleu repeated. Louis paused, trying to come up with an answer he hoped would make sense. His eyes settled back on the book she was holding.
“Can I ask you something, Marleu? When you read those paragraphs, do you think those two are in love?”
“I read it and the only thing I think is I think the guy grew a third arm somewhere after the fourth paragraph.”
Louis choked as he tried to keep from laughing. “That’s fair.” It took him a few seconds to calm down and Marleu smiled a little. She had never seen him laugh that hard before. The grin that crossed his fair face suited him. “Do you think they’re in love Louis?”
He shook his head. “If they are the text isn’t convincing me of it. Maybe it’s just because I don’t remember the first half of the story, but I always imagined if two people had been dating and even been engaged for years, that a simple misunderstanding such as ‘I’m seeing an old friend who is a guy’ would have long been talked about without any fighting. I know, it’s the lead up to the next steamy romance scene - and it is steamy - but…”
He trailed off, his eyes moving away from Marleu and to the floor. She watched him, wondered what he was thinking about. “I don’t see them as just being able to sit down and talk to each other. Enjoy a cup of tea and watch a movie. Go out and laugh and have a good time.” He sighed, “I won’t mince words Marleu, I enjoy reading this kind of stuff, but seeing it between two people that would go out of their way for each other, support each other talk to each other. That’s what makes a scene worth it. Otherwise it’s just really well-written sex.”
Marleu contemplated his words and, after a bit, closed the book. “I don’t think I like these kinds of stories. I think I’d rather just see people cuddle and laugh.” She mumbled, the air between the two becoming quiet and still as they sat on the floor in silence. Louis studied her face. It was the first time in a while he had seen it so blank. No, that was not the right word. She looked sad.
“Is everything alright, Marleu?” He asked getting her attention..
“Just thinking.” She said as she brought her hand up to play with the ends of her hair. “Have you ever been in love Louis?”
It took a moment for him to answer. “Yeah. I feel like I have, but I don’t remember if I ever told them or not.”
“I see… “
“What about you? Have you ever been in love?”
“I want to be…” she started, hesitation in her voice as she avoided his eyes, “but I don’t think anyone would want to be with me.”
His eyes widened a little, “Why not?”
“Cause…” she trailed off, her eyes moving from him, to the book in her other hand, and then down at the floor. “I-I don’t think I could do the things in those stories. I don’t think I can love someone like… that. And I know for many that’s a deal breaker so…”
Louis frowned, thinking over her words. That frown faded as he processed what she was trying to say and he looked at her. “I won’t disagree with you, but…” He started, taking a deep breath and letting it out, “Vein isn’t a kind world, but there are kind people in it. Good people. Whoever you fall in love with, I’m sure they’ll understand if you talk to them about it.”
“It’s not that easy Louis.”
He sighed and nodded. She was right; it was not as easy as just talking to someone about something so personal. That would be a hard conversation. “You’re right it’s not. But a world like this won’t thrive if we can’t understand each other.” He saw a smile cross her face, a slight hint of a blush on her cheeks. “And whoever you end up with, they’ll be the luckiest person in the world.”
“You think so?”
“I’d be jealous.” He said, a grin on his face she returned with a smile and a light blush forming on her cheeks.
“You’re very kind Louis. I’m glad you’re one of the good people I’ve met.”
Whatever smile was on his face faded out and he averted his eyes. He started to stand up and winced when he got halfway and leaned against the bookshelf. Marleu got to her feet. “Louis?”
“I think I’m feeling that fall again.” He muttered. Marleu approached him and with the okay, wrapped an arm around him to help Louis full stand up. “I’m gonna take a long dip in the hot springs, get my muscles working. You okay if we get back to this later?”
“Sure. Just let me know when you’re ready.”
He nodded and took a step and almost stumbled into his desk. To his relief, Marleu had not let go yet and helped him keep his bearings. “I might need some help.”
“In that case, maybe I should join you then.”
Louis kept his head down and nodded. It was a unisex hot spring, and it wouldn’t be the first time they’d both been in it together. Still, the thought was nice. Being around her was nice.

Yakumo Koizumi
A/N: I need more writing for this fandom so I guess I’ll start with adding my own. Here’s a piece for everyone’s favorite professor. Please feel free to jump into my ask box with any requests!
-Admin Chey
--------------------------------
As you strolled through the street, clutching the small package to your chest, you couldn’t help but smile as you imagined giving your friend the gift you had gotten him. After asking your father and you to sit for a painting-- a study in poses, he said-- Aoi had gifted you the art, refusing to take payment for it. You had racked your brain for a way to repay him, against his insistence that there was no need, and finally stumbled across a beautiful set of wooden paint brushes that you deemed worthy of the artist. While smiling smugly down at the package, knowing he would have to accept it, you didn’t notice that you weren’t paying attention to the road until you bumped into a stranger.
The impact caused you to stumble, almost dropping the package in your arms, but before you could feel the crash of colliding with the ground, a strong hand grabbed you by the arm, just above your elbow, and stabilized you. You were mortified at your obvious lack of caution while walking and turned around sharply to face the person.
“Pardon me! I’m so sorry. I must pay closer attention as I walk; please forgive me!” you half-shouted in alarm, bowing deeply in apology and praying that the stranger was not too upset with you.
“On the contrary,” the familiar voice started, “I can’t imagine a happier surprise than the circumstances that led to my running into you, my Sweet Doll.”
You straightened up as your eyes met with the crimson eyes of your father’s close friend and observed his ever-gentle smile as he teased you, “Or should I say, with your running into me?”
You were suddenly overcome with relief-- not only was the person that you had inconvenienced not upset, but it also turned out to be Professor Yakumo, whose presence had always been a comforting one since you were a little girl. At least, that was how it used to be. Recently, the way he always seemed genuinely happy to see you would trigger a nervous fluttering in your stomach. While you always held a gentle respect and admiration for the man, you had more recently begun to develop a sense of overwhelming delight in hearing him call you by his favorite nickname for you.
Ignoring the increased pace of your heartbeat, you gave him a smile in return and greeted him cheerfully.
“Are you out performing a delivery for your father, my Doll? Nothing would make me happier than to have the opportunity to escort you in my carriage.”
You smiled genuinely at his kindness. Regardless of your confusing feelings for the man, he truly was the kindest man that you had the pleasure of knowing.
“Not today, Professor. I’m actually dropping off a present for my friend at the Raccord Milk Hall.” You didn't miss the way his smiled widened slightly. You overheard him mention to your father how glad he was that you had recently seemed to be surrounded by good friends, citing that he didn’t want you to miss out on making important memories in your youth. The fact that he cared so deeply about your happiness only helped to further your admiration of him. “You see, my friend recently painted a portrait of Father and I, and I wanted to repay his kindness.” You gestured to the package in your arms and he was pleased by your declaration.
“Then it is an even greater coincidence that we are on our way to the bookstore next door to the Milk Hall. Please allow me the honour of accompanying you there.”
He offered you his elbow and you took it as he walked you to the carriage. You tried to suppress the butterflies that seemed to flutter at the thought of riding with him. It was far from the first time that you would be riding alone with the man, having often been offered rides to and from school. However, that had been before you began to notice the change in your feelings for the esteemed professor. You graciously, if not shyly, accepted his hand as he helped you into the carriage before it registered in your head that he had said “we” and not “I” when he mentioned the bookstore as his destination. You balked as you entered the carriage, realizing that you were not the only guest that he was accompanying.
Two beautiful young women sat on one side of the cabin together, arms linked, and looked up in curiosity upon your entrance. You took a seat across from them silently as your eyes studied the floor. You had no intention of being rude, but the surge of foreign emotions that bubbled up inside your chest confused you into a stupor. The idea of jealousy was not an unknown emotion, but the disappointment that you felt weighing on you surprised you to no end.
For a moment, you had let yourself believe that you were the only girl upon whom the professor doted so lovingly, but felt a fool when you saw the beautiful girls across from you. Of course the handsome professor was not solely smitten with a girl who was practically still a child when he could have any woman he wanted.
“Hello,” the unexpectedly kind voice broke you out of your internal debate as you met eyes with the beauty who spoke, “I am Miyami, and this is Hiyoko.” She gestured to the girl sitting in front of you who beamed at you with a mischievous look in her eye. Miyami smiled warmly and continued, “I haven’t seen you at the university before; are you coming with us to return some books?”
Before you could answer, the professor finished speaking with the driver and gracefully climbed into the carriage, taking the remaining seat beside you.
“I wasn’t aware that anyone else would be joining us, professor. Won’t you introduce us to your friend?” The girl sitting across from you -Hiyoko- smiled teasingly in your direction as she asked her question. You willed yourself to smile in return, but you knew it must look forced. The situation was making you uncomfortable, if only because you didn’t have the privacy to decode the different thoughts swimming around in your head.
You couldn't help but admire the beauty of the girls in front of you: one with a lively disposition of and the other radiating kindness. You tucked a loose strand of hair behind your ear, suddenly feeling self-conscious of yourself.
“Ladies, allow me to introduce you to L/N F/N.” You felt your chest tighten minutely at the introduction. Something about hearing his voice say your name, rather than the nickname he always used with you, made you feel oddly distant from the man who was sitting mere inches away from you. However, this feeling was quickly swept away by a burning heat in your cheeks at the girls’ responses.
“Professor!” Hiyoko gasped excitedly, raising her hand to cover her smirk as she glanced between the two of you. Her friend continued, “I had thought you surely exaggerated her beauty when you spoke of her. But I can clearly see that is not the case.” Your cheeks burned impossibly warmer at the compliment and the insinuation that he had spoken of you often enough for the young women to know you by name alone.
“How fortunate of us to get to meet the girl with whom the professor is so smitten.” Hiyoko continued in a teasing tone, oblivious to your ever-growing blush. Glancing to the man at your side, you found him gently smiling down at you.
“Excuse my students, Doll, it seems they have not yet learned the art of subtlety.” He chuckled pointedly as he glanced at the girl in front of you who seemed unperturbed. So these girls were his students. If you hadn’t been so dejected at the thought of him pursuing the girls in front of you, you might have noticed the western history book sitting in Miyami’s lap-- the very subject that he taught at the university.
“How lucky you are to have such a charming man as the professor pursuing your heart. I must say I almost prefer listening to him talk about you than about the western countries.”
“Hiyoko, I would wish that you don’t embarrass L/N with your exaggeration.” The professor cut the girl’s joking off with a laugh of his own. “She will think that I am incompentent a professor if she believes she is the only subject of which I discuss with my students.” Your heart lightened at the soft laughter that seemed to fill the cabin and willed your blush to cool as you spoke.
“I do not mind much if you should speak of me to your students.” You said, trying to hold back the happiness threatening to burst out of your chest at the thought of him truly only having eyes for you. “But perhaps it is only fair if you also speak of your students to me, so that I may be on an even footing upon meeting them.” You looked into his eyes as you spoke the second half, giving him a smile to let him know you were only half-teasing.
“L/N is quite right, Professor. That seems only fair that you also speak of Hiyoko and I to L/N.”
“Indeed,” Hiyoko agreed with a laugh. “I am wounded that you do not speak of us. Though, I cannot blame you much, I suppose, since lovers have much more interesting things to talk about.”
The girl’s words and exaggerated wink stopped your heart for a split second as you registered what she had said. The blush that had previously begun to reside returned in full force, painting your entire face a shade of red as you stuttered, “L-l-l-lovers? No, the professor and I- we’re not- er-”
Your eyes searched for his in a panic as you wondered what he had possibly been telling his students. However, ever the gentleman, the professor kindly dismissed the notion.
“Ladies, please do not offend Y/N with your assumptions.” He glanced down at you, without a hint of embarrassment in his eyes, and his gentle smile calmed your racing heart. “While it is no secret that I adore her whole-heartedly, she is still young, and has much life ahead of her to live yet before I would ask her to properly consider my feelings.” He spoke to the girls, but his eyes were locked on yours and you felt giddy at the promise in his words. He would wait for you, but he was determined to be yours, should you so choose.
You smiled shyly in return and found yourself becoming lost in his eyes, the eyes that you had spent a lifetime looking into. Eyes that congratulated you on your achievements, encouraged you in your ventures, and assured you in your convictions as you grew. The man who waited patiently and whose declarations of devotion, while oft bringing a blush to your cheeks, never made you uncomfortable. As he stared back into your eyes, the loose strand once again slipped from the cherry blossom pin holding up your hair and he reached up and grasped the strand between two fingers, gently brushing it back behind your ear.
It was not until you heard two synchronized sighs that you remembered you were not alone in the carriage and looked up to find the girls smiling longingly at the scene in front of them. You cast your gaze down to the package in your lap, fiddling with the strings with which it is secured, as the embarrassment swelled within you at having such an intimate moment be seen by near-strangers.
However, Miyami seemed to notice your discomfort and skillfully changed the topic of the conversation.
“So you never did answer my question,” She nodded to the package in my lap. “Are you also headed to the bookstore?”
“Ah, no. I’m actually delivering a gift to a friend next door.” Glancing down at the lap in front of you, you saw the book Hiyoko was holding to be a book that you had once borrowed from Ginnoji. You excitedly asked her about it and were happy as she shared her thoughts on it. You enjoyed the conversation, but could feel Yakumo’s eyes on your the whole time, wearing a smile as he watched you excitedly converse with the girl.
Before you knew it, you had arrived at your destination and the professor helped the girls out of the carriage, offering his hand to them as they stepped out. However, when you had exited the carriage, he kept the grip on your hand and brought it to his lips. You blushed as he placed a soft kiss on your knuckles and glanced up at you from beneath his eyelashes.
“I apologize for my students. Believe me, I had no intention of making you uncomfortable and, while I am not reserved about my feelings for you, it is not fair to expect you to be comfortable with others discussing it as well. I will ask that they refrain from doing so in the future.” His eyes held an ounce of sadness, and any embarrassment from the ride quickly evaporated as you rushed to reassure him.
“Please, don’t apologize.” You blurted, glancing away in embarrassment before steeling yourself and looking into his eyes as you continued. “I may not know much about love, but I do know that you have always been kind to me. I have never be embarrassed by your transparency and your students are very kind. I was simply surprised to find,” you suddenly trained your eyes on the ground, no longer able to face him as you continued with your admission, “That it was not simply out of kindness for your friend’s daughter that you’ve always doted on me, but out of a genuine affection.”
You felt shame tint your cheeks as you admitted that you had always thought his words to be a jest, but his light chuckle grabbed your attention and you trained your eyes on his smiling ones.
“Your candor is one of the many qualities of yours that I find myself ever moved by.” He seemed overjoyed by your admission of finally accepting his feelings to be genuine, his eyes shining with a brightness you had never seen. Suddenly, something over your shoulder caught his eye and his expression became amused.
“Now, I’m sure you must be eager to deliver that gift to your friend.” He abruptly changed the subject, releasing your hand. You let it fall to your side, tensing your fingers at the strange emptiness that came with the loss of his touch. “It was, as always, a blessing to find myself in your company today.” He bowed his head softly but found your eyes again. “However, I do have one parting request if you would be so kind as to indulge me?”
You felt your eyebrows raise in question and you tilted your head quizzically as he continued.
“When you are with me, you needn’t call me Professor.” The corners of his eyes crinkled with the strength of his smile. “There is nothing I want more than to be able to hear my given name on your lips. ”
Your heart began to beat erratically and the butterflies in your stomach returned in full force as you stuttered out a reply.
“Yes, Prof-er I mean--” You glanced away as you finally stuttered out his name in a whisper. “K-ko-Koizumi.”
You swore you heard a quiet gasp, but when you met his eyes again, his sweet smile had returned.
“Enjoy your evening, my Sweet Doll. I look forward to the next time I can be graced with your presence.”
With a final dip of his head, he turned into Ginnojo’s store. You saw the book-lender himself speaking quietly with Miyami, a blush gracing both of their faces as you turned toward Raccord’s front door only to find Oji-san out front with his pipe.
“You sure do have him wrapped around your finger,” He teased as you walked by him, feeling even the tips of your ears burning with a blush. Just as you glanced up to ask him about Aoi’s whereabouts, the boy in question descended the stairs and glanced up at you.
You hoped against hope that presenting the gift to the boy in front of you would distract him from your current abashed state, but even without using his powers, he couldn’t ignore the color that dusted your cheeks.
“Why the hell is your face so red? Do you have a fever?” Ever the mother hen, Aoi huffed in exasperation as he grabbed a glass from behind the bar and filled it with water. “Why would you come all this way if you’re not feeling well?” He sat it down in front of you and placed the back of his hand to your head before putting his hand on his hip. “What’s going on?”
You ignored the soft snicker behind you of Oji-san trying to hold in his laughter and focused on the task at hand, holding his gift out to him, vowing to let yourself think about the events of the day once you’re home in bed where no one can see your blush.

Chapter 103:
Gupta and co. are in Konron, feeling demonic energies all around them. Gupta senses someone coming and orders her men to seal their artifacts off but it's too late...Anubis attacks:
Meanwhile, Yakumo and Pai are heading out but...for fuck's sake, Haan is perched above to interrogate Yakumo on his intentions.
Pai tells him they are searching for the Seima Stone to become human. Haan asks where are they gonna live and Pai says she doesn't know but Gupta and Yakumo will deal with that. Haan decides to join them, saying he's on a trip. Pai leaves to get another lunchbox and when she's gone, Haan accuses Yakumo of trying to steal Pai from him and attacks him.
He says that from now on, everything has to do with him and Yakumo needs to fuck off. Wus aren't required to be triclops' lovers so obviously, Yakumo's love for Pai is one-sided. Finally, Yakumo has enough and grabs Haan's punk-ass by the collar, telling him Pai and him are going to live together and they arranged this four years ago. Before Yakumo could punch his face in, Ling-Ling shows up in a car and announces they have a job from the Hyouma Clan: they found the Seima Stone and they want Yakumo and Pai to come to Egypt get it.
In Cairo, the two (with Steve Long!) have fun taking in the sights of the city with Steve pointing out the Book of the Dead to them. For those who don't know, the Egyptian Book of the Dead is an ancient text that describes the Egyptian mythological underworld. Yakumo thinks that's cool but it doesn't involve him because he's going to be human soon.
Their driver greets them and asks wasn't there supposed to be four people. Yakumo says there was...but Haan got caught up in the airport for some reason?
Dumb bitch tried to bring his drugs over. I hope he's in prison.
The driver confirms that they were called over because the Seima Stone was found. It's currently in Gupta's hands but the recording of them being attacked by Anubis makes Yakumo anxious. That recorder from Konron is all that's left of them and they've been lost since.
The four ride up to the Konron portal where the driver explains that Gupta and her men have been trapped in there for four days straight. Yakumo asks why Konron's in Egypt and Steve equates the eternal life of the Egyptian Underworld with the legends of triclops' granting immortality. Next problem: even if they get into Konron, there's no guarantee that they'll ever get out. Yakumo regrets giving Gupta's the Konron Key since it ended up getting her stranded while Pai just summons a tomb out of nowhere, ending the chapter with inviting Yakumo to go into Konron with her.

Scents that Code Vein characters would have
-Louis
• Definitely has a bit more of a book and paper smell to him since he loves to read, spends a lot of time planning things on paper most likely, and of course mapping out the areas you explore.
• Every so often though, you will catch the scent of the tomato and oden sandwiches that he loves to eat.
-Yakumo
• Alcohol can smelled from him and his breath on occasions, mostly sake though
• Gun powder or metal from making modifications to his gun when MC gives him the custom gun parts that they find
• Of course when he makes Onigiri, you can always tell from the smell of rice, seaweed, and whatever other ingredients he can find to add to them
-Jack
• He’s as much of an alcohol lover as Yakumo, but more of a Brandy or Whiskey type of guy. Depending on what he’s in the mood for.
• Always has some type of cologne on, mostly wearing it to impress a certain someone (*cough* *cough* Eva).
-Davis
• Being someone who keeps in shape, he usually smells like the protein powder that he adds to his drinks.
• Has also more of an Earth-y smell to him from all of his wandering and exploring in the depths.
• Also smells of metal from the suit of armor that he wears all the time.
-Murasame
• Oil and tools from spending most of her time working on weapons and fixing things that everyone brings in.
• Probably a bit of sweat too from working so hard.
• She would also have a liking of things that smell sweet, probably not anything too strong, but more of a soft vanilla or chocolate.
-Coco
• Spices, she always smells of spices since she is ALWAYS craving spicy foods (even though revenants don’t really need to eat).
• If not spices, probably more of a subtle perfume of some sort.
-Mia
• This girl loves her tea, she smells of it whenever she is brewing some for everyone after a long day.
• Also the organic soap that MC brings her, she loves using it because she doesn’t want the gift to go to waste.
-Eva
• A soft rose perfume that Jack probably got for her.
• Probably tea or some type of herbs from when she is hanging out with Coco and Mia.
