The Morning Drive
Tumblr media
The story behind this unassuming road photo starts with a cool early spring morning, there’s still some snow up on the mountains and the usual hiking group is feeling ready to get back out there. Taking the subpar windy roads past Yacolt, WA and through a forest which only lets the sun through the van’s windows in bursts leads you to a lonely parking space on the side of the road where you’ll enviably embark on your expedition. It’s a nostalgic, yet all to current, experience for all hiking groups.

Guess who put their new Pixel 7 through the washing machine somehow? Oh, that's me! Guess what? It's waterproof!? When I realized and pulled it out and later on the screen told me that it was no longer in water danger and the USB could be used. A++ good job new phone!
We just watched our 7th holiday romcom. The power flicked off once. Portland had sleet. Sleet and freezing rain are not the same as snow. You cannot drive on a sheet of ice. So, consider Portland closed for a few days.
This wind is brutal. The folks that own the house nextdoor don't currently live there and we had to go grab their garbage/recycling bins that decided to take a walk down the street. Their chimney cap and our chimney cap went flying down the street.
Jackie cat hates this weather. We opened the door and the wind blew him over, he was not impressed.
We were supposed to get a rental car tomorrow, but you can't drive on ice. We are supposed to head up to my folks' place in Yacolt on Saturday. I have a whole feast planned for family from out of town. You can't drive on ice. Family understands.
Until we reconcile with the weather I've got a big witching project to ponder and an IPA to drink, probably another holiday romcom to watch.
Enjoy the queue of ancient witchy shitposts!

Mt. Hood from Mt. Baldy
Tumblr media
This photo, from my first trip to Mt. Hood, is from the easy to approach Mt. Baldy’s Top Spur trailhead. The drive is a little rough, but we made it in an old Honda Odyssey. The trail took us through wildflowers and views of the Mt. Hood wilderness. We weren’t too far from Yocum Ridge, in fact latter in the same trip we did a hike which would’ve allowed us to connect the two.
This trip was a load of fun, we did two hikes nearly each day, and it was my first time in the designated wilderness, that I can remember. This photo is from the second one of the day. Although, if you’ve followed along with my posts on the website any you might be a little confused, simply because this happened before my recent Sunday hiking trip in Mt. Hood (I’ve been doing a lot in Mt. Hood this summer). We stayed our nights in a subpar cabin-esc Airbnb, with better Wi-Fi than at home.
Most of this short afternoon hike was on the Timberline Trail, which holds a ton of Mt. Hood photo opportunities. Being up on the mountain during golden hour is a simple way of making any nature photographer happy. That being said one member of our group was just a little worried about getting stuck up there in the dark. The hike isn’t that long, but for us it was a short hike to wind down before another morning out. If you want to check it out here’s the path we took on Garmin Connect.
