YESSS. i read bridget jones diary in high school and was like 'this sad white lady.....she gets it' and i never got why ppl were alway shitting on chick lit bc the few ones i read in the 2010s were fun! but i think that generation of adults that refused to let ya go infiltrated publishing and changed the tone of chick lit away from fun, quirky, and miserable women protags flopping their way to slaydom to just 2d cardboard cutouts lusting for the worst man on earth. and then tiktok emboldened the dark romance genre and now it's just not hitting like it used to.

anyways my chick lit rec is: this pen for hire by laura levine. its the first in this fun murder mystery series. love the protag she's so fun and spunky. devoured this book it was sooooo entertaining. and rn im reading 'witchling' by yasmine galenorn. its fantasy chick lit and i didnt expect it to be so quippy but i found myself really liking it lolllll. the main character has big boobs and everyone wants her but theres also demons roaming around. i high-key cannot put this book down lol
