Hello everyone I’d like to rec this wonderful fic by my pal @selkiegirls because it’s beautiful and I’m in love okay!! It’s a wonderful Fae AU with human Viktor who sets off to ask the Queen to lift his curse, with the help of fae Yuuri.

Here’s the summary: 

In which gold still runs in their veins, but in this world, with the sharp teethed fae and with stories so old that they turn to ash, Viktor and Yuuri do not dedicate their lives on the ice. Instead, Viktor travels, and hopes and wants for what he can’t, or maybe can, have. And Yuuri dances to remember, maybe because that is all he has left to give.

and!! if that somehow wasn’t enough to convince you to read it!! Here’s one of my favorite parts: 

Viktor woke to the lingering scent of mint in the empty sheets and his heart in his hands.

He hadn’t expected Yuuri to stay, but he had hoped , and somehow, that was even lonelier.

He had stumbled to the baths, and when he stood, his hair pressed wet and cold against his face, he had brought his hand to his mouth and tasted nothing but bitterness.

Viktor forgot how to breath, in that single moment, with the taste heavy and suffocating on his tongue, and he wasn’t sure he wanted to be able to again when it had passed.

and I expect I’ll have more favorite parts as the series goes on but!! the prose!! the imagery!!

4. what’s a fic that changed the way you write?

ok so!! neither of these are for yoi but

The World Ain’t Ready by idiopathicsmile is?? legit so gorgeous?? it’s delicately reckless in the way that being queer in high school just is and the characterization here is my fav in the entire les mis fandom and just?? it finished when i was a junior in high school which is the same year that the characters were in and just a lot of it hit home for me and im rambling now but the way the author portrayed grantaire’s mental illness just really taught me about how fiction can help me cope with my own illness and ahhhhhhhhh 

The Thirteen Letters by dropdeaddream and WhatAreFears is just so beautiful and poetic and like, hauntingly, achingly bittersweet in a way that i can’t really describe?? it’s like 3 am summer melancholy?? like it had me choked up the entire time 

theres a lot of other ones but these two really showed me just how much artistry could go into writing?? like listen before fanfic i was reading really bad YA (which!! nothing wrong with YA!! obviously i love it a lot but u know. the stuff i was reading just recycled the same tired plots and character types and ugh) but the internet and fanfic and fan communities really made me fall in love with writing

my first published fanfic on ff.net was this self-insert crack fic for the hunger games and it’s really bad and i distinctly remember thinking at the time that i was a literary goddess

there was like?? a scene with pie scented sharpies?? and i remember thinking i was hot shit because after i published the first chapter i got 57 reviews and that blew my mind

So I actually just answered a gender swap ask, and there weren't any Male!Hermione fics that came up where Tom wasn't also gender swapped. My recs for you won't officially fit your ask.

There's a really good self-cest Tom fic that has some slight Tomione flair, and then a few fics where another male is involved with Tom. You may also find more in our Triad tag.

But to be honest you may have better luck looking at another pairing if you are seeking strictly M/M action. Try some Tom/Abraxas, Tom/Draco, or Tomarry where maybe Harry is a little OOC and into academia or very intelligent. -JD
