Hi! Found this answer on a Redit thread. Your take?
he was probably bi. My friend who i worked with at a record store went out to dinner with him and some band mates and Jeff had some drinks and came on to him. I also knew of a couple of his girlfriends in NYC. He was probably like many people open to many things. That's all I will say.
Then there's this long spiel:
I’m late to the party but I went down a hole with this last year after I too listened to ‘Dream of you and I’ and was like that felt very personal and astute for someone everyone seems to assume is het. I went looking here then too and couldn’t find anything so hopefully the next person like me will find this.
I’m a queer person and have always strongly identified and loved his music but besides just my personal opinion that many of his songs have that ~queer energy~ and coding in them I did find a couple of less subjective things. Unfortunately none which lead to solid answers but might make other queer people like me feel happy and satisfied with what we are seeing in him (people who are die hard 'he could never be gay blah blah he’s had all these gfs' are never going to come around but for the rest of us it might be enough).
First big one is this 1997 article published a month after his death. https://www.chicagotribune.com/news/ct-xpm-1997-06-20-9706200305-story,amp.html it quotes him twice describing himself as a homosexual and gay. Unfortunately I can’t find the original articles from which the quotes are pulled for more context but for the most part... idk if we really need it. Feels to me like the author saw how he was being memorialised (perhaps knew him personally idk) and didn’t want this part of him to get lost. Here are the quotes in the event that article disappears one day too...
It's all about getting to a place where I can let my deepest eccentricities out," Buckley once said in an interview shortly after the Uncommon Ground show. "I just see things a little differently and express myself a little differently and I think it's because I haven't been in one place for very long (in four years, Buckley attended three high schools). So I was seen from my childhood as hyperactive, homosexual, weird, insane, obnoxious, offensive, funny. . . . It's a tremendous point of pain, my inability to relate to the status quo."
"I am a storyteller, lounge singer, I am the entertainer, I am the rock star, I am gay, I am wrong, I am there for the story to go down, the cocktail host-shaman, the little romantic chanteuse wanna-be," Buckley once said, trying to explain the image. He says he wanted it as the cover art for the album, but was talked out of it by friends and the record company. "All the men hated my Judy Garland jacket."
The article also mentions Judy Garland's jacket which he wears on the cover of Grace. Which would be my second obvious clue that he’s not a straight man. Idk how much you know about Judy but she was very much an icon in gay male circles at the time and prior - you can look that up if you’re unfamiliar and find plenty of info. He’s spoken about the jacket and other people have spoken about elsewhere too, you could look for more of that if you’re curious.
More directly from Jeff and related to his music is the Last Goodbye video which includes a clip of two men kissing. Pretty self explanatory. Whole video is pretty homo romantic tbh. Can’t imagine the record label was stoked about that if they didn’t even like the jacket. I imagine he would have had to fight to put that in which... why would you do that if you were straight?
Next I found some random forum thread (https://www.datalounge.com/thread/16719162-jeff-buckley) plenty of trolls and people being like no he’s straight and offering no real commentary but also some people who agreed. One gay guy who met him had assumed he was gay and didn’t find out he had a gf till after his death.
“Who actually knows? I met Jeff a bunch of times in NYC in 92/93. He was a nice guy. My BF went to NYU for grad school and I moved back there after leaving in 1988 when I graduated from there. Being back in the city, I threw myself back in the music scene. I would see him play and see him at other venues. I was 2 years older and liked Jazz. We mainly talked about music and guitars. I never asked, but always assumed he was gay. I was shocked when I found out that Joan Wasser was his girlfriend at the time of his death.”
Someone else there also mentions Judy Garland again and his cover of ‘The Man That Got Away’, you can listen to Jeff sing it on the Mystery White Boy live album. You could take his little intro to that song in a queer way too if you wanted.
Someone else in the thread also links to this 1995 MTV interview + outtakes video and just says “he seems gay in this video” which made me laugh but I mean.. they’re not really wrong. You should watch it either way because it’s a cute interview. https://youtu.be/vcxGwQKW6Ac
From the ‘In His Own Words’ book which fortunately and unfortunately is very obviously curated there are a couple things that are specifically queer. You’ll have to excuse any small errors in this, some of it is hard to read.
“Thanks for the beat, for the sumptuous rhythm you give that I continue at the silent handoff, watch me run baby. My baby’s got a strong right arm. The drag queen... such a queen, queen 4 my lust and juicy hope of happiness somewhere in this world... her back, her shoulders, her ecstatic downcast eyes that lead to her legs... just like my baby oh you should see her, you are both oh such the real thing, such the real thing... I smiled when you weren’t ready (word I can’t make out) the show and I brought you some (cut off page) kissed my cheek and it kept me (cut off page)”
“It’s something you don’t realize You’re funny that way Hatred and fascination Hatred and fascination
For the cultures closest to the earth For the lovers throughout history of the same sex For the feminine in all things For the body itself For the surrender and courage of the heart
DECODE THAT FUCKING EVANGELIST DEVIL DOCTRINE”
I feel like there was one more but I didn’t write it down and I can’t see it just flicking through the book again sorry - if I remember I’ll come back and add it next time I read it. There are other things in the book that also made me think he was queer but they were more subtle. Those are the two things that explicitly mention queerness. There’s also plenty in the book where he writes about sexual attraction to women or alludes to relationships with women so before someone comes at me about not acknowledging that - here I am. I will say though people who are gay have relationships with people of the opposite sex when they’re working themselves out, doesn’t make them any less gay. Also he could be any other variation of queer and be having relationships with people of any and all genders and identities.
You can read into all his lyrics or things he’s said in interviews or his general demeanour or whatever it is you want to. I could keep linking to what I recognise as queer coded but some of it’s more subjective and the rest of it is just too nuanced to try to articulate or argue on the internet.
Sentiment is basically that it’s very likely that he was gay or queer but that it was the 90s and that he grew up in the 70/80s - a time when being gay and out was not something one could comfortably or safely do much of the time. Especially not as a public figure. He was also very young, which unfortunately means maybe he never got to fully realise or authentically live out his queerness. Which really adds another layer of tragedy to his death if I’m honest.
If he was alive today with the evolution of queer language and general understanding we have now who’s to say how someone like Jeff - who was so obviously and openly in touch with his feminine side - would describe his gender identity let alone his sexuality.
Each to their own but if you’re queer and see yourself and your community reflected in him I don’t think anyone can accurately or definitively tell you otherwise.
It's all subjective opinion and an unsubstantiated claim imo...I don't think he was, but, as also claimed, "people that want to insist' won't be convinced otherwise...The Last Goodbye video...they seem to forget, or don't know, the part that involved Merri was inspired by Jean Cocteu who was, if the blurb I read is correct, gay... perhaps that was included to reflect that? Or maybe something similar was in something related to him that inspired? Who knows? They were also friends of her's, maybe she wanted them to be in it for whatever reason. They also miss a crucial thing: Jeff, to me anyway, did not think along lines, and may have acted in ways perceived as gay (hence being called so as a kid), but didn't think of it as being "gay" or "not gay", he just did whatever came, it doesn't necessarily mean he's gay...also, what they take as "codes" may not actually be (and people, please don't @ me, this is only my opinion and impression... I was asked, I'm replying, thanks)...

Every fandom has its bad side and worse side. I am not ok with trolls going around saying Vince sacrificed Skylar for fame either
the real people to blame for this is boeing and rocketdyne. They were the ones releasing radiation and dumping chemicals near the neighborhood where Vince and sharise lived at getting people sick and giving them cancer and unfortunately Skylar was a victim who did not survive
Also let it be known that a lot of these manufacture and chemical companies are still dumping toxic waste close to residents today!
Hello, anon! Thank you for your wise words and bringing awareness to the situation. It is very unfortunate how this whole thing occurred.
For anybody who wants to know more I will provide a short excerpt from an article I found. I will also paste the link for those who want to read the article in its entirety.
The lead singer for Mötley Crüe has sued Boeing North American Inc., claiming that his daughter's death by cancer in 1995 was caused by radioactive material dumped in the soil and ground water near his former home near the Santa Susana Field Laboratory.
Vince Neil and his ex-wife, Sharise, bought a home in Chatsworth in 1991, a few miles east of Boeing's Rocketdyne Division. Boeing acquired the property in 1996 when it bought Rockwell International's aerospace and defense businesses.
The suit claims that Boeing, Rockwell, and Rocketdyne knowingly dumped hazardous materials, such as plutonium and uranium, near the Neils' Summit Ridge Circle residence southeast of Simi Valley.
Their 4-year-old daughter, Skylar, was diagnosed with a rare form of cancer in April 1995 and died four months later. The suit claims that her death came "as a direct result of the activities conducted by defendants."
https://www.latimes.com/archives/la-xpm-1999-aug-18-me-1368-story.html
It’s disgusting how these companies are still getting away with this!
#hopefully this will educate the trolls#go after the companies not Vince#cine has spoketh#vince neil#motley crue#mötley crüe#nikki sixx#tommy lee#mick mars

Hey! To that train/bus ticket anon, I tried looking for Chicago-NYC specific things from 1992 but couldn't find an explicit price. I did happen to find a 1991 Chicago Tribune article with Midwest to other locations for the Amtrak which may be of help? Looking at that, Chicago-NYC might be around the $230-$340 price range by my estimation but that might be very off? Annoyingly enough they don't include ticket prices onto the route guides (that I can find at least). Not sure if that'll help but good luck Anon!
https://www.chicagotribune.com/news/ct-xpm-1991-04-14-9102030080-story.html <== Feel free not to trust that link, if you wish to look up the article on your own it's titled "The Rail Way" from 14-4-91
Got like 5 answers on the tickets asks thank you! Answering this one but I have sent all the asks to my friend, and they say godbless and that they love you

@nonryenary (re: these tags)
ok so keeping in mind that I'm mostly pulling all of this from my memory of my one lecture class...
this is a Cycladic figure/idol
they're Greek/Aegean. there's a bunch of them. they all look more or less the same; pretty small, though varying in size, arms crossed left over right, faceless, etc etc.
Now in the late 19th century there were a lot of fakes of these being made. (note: fakes are unlikely to be made by the museums themselves, but by scammers who would sell the fakes to museums and rich patrons while passing them off as real))
there were a couple of ways to identify a Cycladic fake from what I remember; the arms were always crossed left OVER right, not the other way around, and they are within a specific height range (I forget the exact numbers). If a figure is off in regards to either of those details, its very likely its a fake from either the 19th century or the mid 20th century.
here's an article with more in depth info on identifying fakes: https://www.latimes.com/archives/la-xpm-1991-12-04-ca-291-story.html
..now I don't remember what year it was that my professor spotted the alleged fakes, so I have no idea if they would even still be at the MET, but do I think it's possible that she was right and there were fakes? Yes lol. (especially considering the MET has had fakes slip by before. cough.)
(I wish I could remember my professors name lol, as that would help quite a bit, but I forget ;w; I'll look for her tho and update this post if I find her! She also wrote a very interesting book about monkeys :))
#archaeology#<- terrified to tag it as this. dont hurt me archaeologists im stupid and just repeating what I heard sorry if this is wrong

Why are we to be worried about Hunter Biden and whether he used drugs? We should be worrying about a man who kept secret Government documents related to our nuclear capability. We should be worrying about a man who wants to be president and whose friend is a Communist leader and a dictator.
I probably should request all anonymous questions to kindly reference the article/post inspiring such questions. I'm often left wondering what evoked these queries. First, let me just say, vote for whoever you want. I don't think anyone is going to change their opinion regarding the upcoming election based on anything they read on Tumblr. I mean, let's be honest here. Second, the entire Justice Department, most every major media outlet, the 50 some retired CIA folks who wrote an open letter all said Hunter's laptop was Russian disinformation BEFORE the last election. Some have recognized the error, barely. Others have never owned up to it. It defies logic that all these people/organizations made a mistake. It was a deliberate lie. We are seeing a propaganda machine here in this country that rivals anything put together in modern times. It shouldn't matter which party you prefer, this should scare you. Third, do you remember Geraldine Ferraro? She ran for vice president several elections ago. Her husband was John Zaccaro who pled guilty to real estate fraud (see LA Times article: https://www.latimes.com/archives/la-xpm-1985-01-07-mn-11727-story.html). Her son, in college at the time, was known as "The Pharmacist" because of the amount of drugs he was dealing. What's the point? It is highly unlikely that Ferraro didn't know what her family was doing. Just like the current situation. That's why we're worried about Hunter Biden. In the old days it would be called influence peddling. However, it seems to be an accepted perk of elected office now and it makes me quite disappointed. It's not just the drugs, it's the money received for being on a board for a company he knows nothing about, it's about the children he has raped (note I said "raped". The media tries to soft pedal it saying things like "having sex with an underage woman". That's BS. An "underage woman" is a child. Having sex with a child is rape. It is beyond reprehensible. Reports are starting to surface that the FBI planted some documents in the material they recovered in the Trump raid. Biden won't be prosecuted for doing the same thing because the investigators in his case said he's too senile to stand trial. And I was not aware of nuclear secrets being among the documents retrieved. Thank goodness our FBI has them now. (that's supposed to be sarcastic.) I am quite frankly much more concerned about our country letting Iran develop nuclear capabilities, however. I can't imagine why our congress and president thought that was a good idea. I rarely get into politics on my blog. I come here to escape all that. But sometimes folks I follow come up with some of the most unusual conclusions. In rare instances I will comment. I can only assume this question derives from one of those comments. And lest you think that I believe one party is evil and the other wonderful, I would suggest to you that they are merely two sides of the same coin. We need to clean house, and not just at the Federal level. As an example, I would offer to you that if Epstein's list of clients were published it would contain significant numbers of members of both parties, as well as many of the Hollywood elites, and other entertainers. Forget jail. We will need a battery of wood chippers. Lastly, thank you for being polite in the wording of your question. I hope you have a wonderful Memorial Day 2024.

Diane Watson, 27 (USA 1987)
In 1987, Diane Watson went to Hedd Surgi-Center in Chicago for what she was told was a “safe and legal” abortion. She was pregnant with her third baby.
The abortion facility was owned by Henry Pimentel and his wife Ester Pimentel. Henry had an extensive record of malpractice and crime. He had paid over $1.8 million dollars in settled malpractice lawsuits, pleaded guilty to criminal fraud for false billings, was suspended from the Illinois state Medicaid program for acts that were “grossly inferior quality, in excess of patients’ needs, and harmful” and had been investigated by the Illinois attorney general and the Illinois departments of Public Aid, Professional Regulation and Health. For some reason, his medical licenses in both Illinois and Indiana still had not been revoked by the time Diane was killed.
The abortion facility did not have proper equipment or procedures for emergencies. Diane’s vitals were not being monitored by any of the staff members in the room. Abortionist Rudolph Moragne injected anesthesia carelessly and hit Diane’s vein. Diane went into seizures and her heart stopped. Nobody took the measures that could have saved Diane’s life.
Diane’s family sued and the case was settled for $500,000.
In 1988, the Illinois Department of Public Health moved to revoke the license of Hedd Surgi-center after finding expired medicine, mold on breathing tubes and rodent droppings in the operating room during repeated inspections dating back to 1986 (meaning that the facility was found to be unsafe long before Diane was killed).
The revocation case was settled in an agreement barring all surgical procedures (except, for some reason, abortions) at Hedd and forcing the owners to sell or lease the abortion facility within nine months. The facility was found to be too incompetent for legitimate healthcare, but was allowed to continue endangering women through abortion. Hedd Surgi-Center should have been shut down long before having the chance to kill Diane and her baby.
In addition to everything else, Diane’s death was excluded from abortion statistics because someone incorrectly filled out her death certificate. Not only was the fatal abortion not mentioned on it, but it incorrectly stated that she had not been pregnant within the last three months. This prevented public health officials from learning that her death was abortion-related even though her autopsy report attributed her death to "seizures due to anesthesia during an abortion," and made note of her pregnancy. She was denied even the inclusion of a statistic.

2003 Brad Kern talks single Piper
Good-witch Piper to be a single mom
By Kate O'Hare and Zap2it.comChicago Tribune•Aug 05, 2003 at 12:00 am
Fans who were present for the fifth-season finale of The WB's "Charmed" know that the star-crossed marriage of good-witch Piper (Holly Marie Combs) and her mystical Whitelighter guardian, Leo (Brian Krause), has hit a snag that not even Dr. Phil could solve.
It was tough enough for these two to wed -- in the "Charmed" universe, witches and their Whitelighters aren't supposed to fraternize (although they do) -- and now Leo has been kicked upstairs to be a wise Elder.
His promotion and subsequent disappearance (not death, as some fans feared) have left Piper alone to raise the couple's son, Wyatt. Even though Leo will reappear at some point, it looks as if the marriage is essentially kaput.
"They're absolutely separated," says executive producer Brad Kern. "Once we find Leo, he's still an Elder, and that doesn't change. That'll create a split for them that will force Piper to learn to live life as a single mom, but it finally gives her some hope ultimately of having the normal life she's wanted ever since she became a witch.
"They will not be together, certainly for the first half of the season. But they share Wyatt, so that's going to keep forcing them together. What happens at the end of the season, I certainly have some thoughts on, but I can't share what they will or won't be."
What Kern can share is the effect little Wyatt will have on his mother's social life. While many TV shows play the drama of pregnancy and childbirth, then shuffle the baby off-screen, not so with Wyatt.
"He's going to display a lot of surprising magical powers," Kern says, "even at 9 months old, that worry Piper and her sisters quite a bit and create even bigger challenges for Piper, who's got quite enough challenges just to be a single mom in the year 2003."
Apparently, Piper tests the dating waters. "She's on her own," Kern says, "and the kid is not exactly conducive or helpful to letting her date other guys. When Piper has a date, a lot of strange things are going to happen to that date, until Piper realizes that it's Wyatt that doesn't want her to be dating."
Although it's tough to split up Piper's marriage, Kern thinks it was a necessary development for the show. "Their characters had overcome so many things, and at some point in time, this last thing becomes one too many things to overcome.
"It'll be fun to play Piper single. We'll play her real, as a single mom, but we'll also have the fun for her that her sisters have been able to have fun with, which is dating and not just being the married person all the time."
As for her sisters, Phoebe (Alyssa Milano) continues her long-distance romance with her boss, publisher Jason Dean (Eric Dane), while Paige (Rose McGowan) pursues her dual interests in men and clothes. https://www.chicagotribune.com/news/ct-xpm-2003-08-05-0308050286-story.html

my two cents is, yeah sometimes you have to cancel or reschedule. BUT if you are really making an effort though, you say “i’m so sorry i can’t make it tonight. i really want to see you though, coffee in the am?/can i stop by for a few minutes after work?/i’ll be late but i still want to see you so let’s meet at xpm instead” ya know? just constantly canceling and not making an effort is not a good sign. 🖤 and the other anon was correct, the bar is set too low now
No I completely agree.
Tbh it really was that I never, ever am attracted to people I meet on dating apps, and I’ve had a lot of really traumatizing hook ups in the past (and some bad associations with sex) so I was clinging to a non-traumatic experience. But that in and of itself was unhealthy of me.
I think I’m just going to not reply to him if ever really does get back to me. I need to just end it.
