Blinking Lights and Ice Crystals

Part 3 of the backstory series I never finished?? 

So I did this for Billy and SeeMore exactly 3000 years ago and then never got back to them

But recently someone asked me my opinions on XL Terrestrial so HERE WE GO

And fyi i am a Nasa nerd, so get ready for over-explanatory details

So, Neptune. Yeah. Neptune.

XL’s species lives either on Neptune, or a place like Neptune (I haven’t decided quite yet)

The surface of the planet is sheer ice that goes down for a while, and underneath it is completely ocean. That’s it. Ice on top, ocean on bottom. All of it. Because the ice is built on top of water it’s more of a bluish tint than just white, and XL’s and his people’s skin blends in with it like camoflauge.

The water is different than earth water too. It has different elements to it? If you stay in it long you won’t just freeze to death, you’ll get sickly and diseased as well.

They’re an underwater species of sorts?? They TECHNICALLY breathe air, but they’re advanced and built a civilization underwater consisting of domes and pipes to keep air flow. (Think like, Bioshock.)

The surface of the planet also has EXTREMELY rough winds, but XL and his people’s skin is very rough-ish. It’s almost rubbery?? Its,,,alien skin. They’re also cold-blooded, so the freezing water and ice doesn’t affect them quite as much.

You almost can’t see the sun at all from Neptune, and especially not underwater, so instead of being built for daytime, XL and his people’s eyes are reddish-orange and built for seeing in dark, murky water.

Their cities are actually very lit up using bioluminescent energy, but in the beginning, before they had light they were mainly water based and needed to see in the murky water.

Their society is based on a kind of mutual monarchy situation. The entire planet has one queen, and each city has a kind of stand-in ruler. Every person is given their job at birth according to what benefits the planet most. Some are officials, some are ice breakers, some are food gatherers, etc. They also don’t have a concept of family or love, they reproduce for a purpose, and none of them really have families, just society. The planet’s very cold, both physically and metaphorically.

All of his people can grow like him, and this is used for different reasons. The main reason is to be used by the “ice breakers”, who grow in size and then use their new strength to break the miles of sheer ice that may block the air pipes leading to the surface.

All of his people can communicate telepathically using their antennas. This comes in handy on the ice when just opening your mouth may dry out your tongue completely due to the wind and snow.

His people are also very well grounded. Due to behavioral instinct, they’re all very, very hard to move if they decide they're going to stand somewhere. It’s so much practice staying still on sheer ice.

OKAY HEY FINALLY ENOUGH OF HIS PLANET TIME FOR HIM

XL was chosen to be a private aerospace protector. His people’s entire culture is based on hiding. If you stay out of sight, no one knows you’re even there, and so no one bothers trying to conquer or go to war with you. XL and his team’s job were to be the few that were actually in sight to those who passed the planet. If any airship came within a certain radius of the planet, their job was to climb in their own ships, and take out the enemy ship as quickly and quietly as possible.

XL was the one who spotted the Gordanian ship that held Starfire when she was brought to Earth, and when they attacked the ship, they found the Gordanians to be volatile and powerful creatures. By the time they were past the Asteroid Belt, XL was all that was left of his team, and his ship was a wreck.

He ended up crash landing just like the Gordanian ship, though he was able to aim himself enough to distance himself from the enemy.

After he crashed, everything was broken. He couldn’t contact his home, couldn’t figure out where he was, and definitely couldn’t start the ship up again.

After about a day of panicking XL decided to explore his surroundings.

He crash landed in a field about in Illinois and soon found that most humans were terrified of him, based on his height, his skin, everything. He did find himself enchanted with everything, though. From how seasons changed, to how humans interacted with each other, to how their government worked.

XL half steals just to steal and half steals for a reason

His original plan was to steal the technology he needs from different sources (government facilities, museums, the brotherhood of evil), but the longer he stays on Earth, the longer he wants to stay.

On Neptune, no one cared about him, no one cared about each other. All anyone ever cared about was their place in society, but on Earth he has friends, he has choice.

His best friend is Private HIVE, who is the person who originally convinced him to even come out of his ship.

Private was never fazed by him being alien or him being strange, and XL admired that

XL’s real “name” is X-1L0 or “Xilo”
