location: random clothing store in university heights?  starter: @ximenaflores
Tumblr media
shopping for clothes wasn’t something maya enjoyed. she preferred making her own clothes and whenever she had the chance, the young brunette would do the same for her family. after having her sister talk about this particular dress that was on sales, maya just decided to gift it to her. moving around the store, with the dress in one hand; she couldn’t help but check a few things out as curiosity took over. killing time like this was nice, at least it kept her away from the chaos waiting for her at home and didn’t feel like dealing with. noticing a woman checking one of the shirts, maya made a face. “that’s not your colour.” the brunette muttered, “apricot orange is very... specific. i would go for the currant red one.”

location: tequila little time
character: @ximenaflores
With her own mother in town, Ver had opted to take a break away from her apartment and from the bakery. What she needed was a two for one special and bottomless chips and salsa to get her mind right. With her iPad unfolded and the sweet spot’s numbers displayed before her, she sucked in a deep breath and smiled. The numbers had finally leveled out and it left her feeling like maybe she needed something new to keep them going upwards once more. Lost in thought, she nearly didn’t notice a familiar older woman moving through the restaurant to find a seat. “This one’s open,” she called out, a hint of a smile on her mouth as she nodded towards the chair near hers. “Unless you’re meeting someone, then I guess I’ll have to take a raincheck.”

@ximenaflores (continued from here)
Ximena assumed that while she’s in town, she better check out the farmer’s market; however, she doubted the stock is as great as it is in her hometown, and as someone who actually had experience in working the fields she was incredibly judgmental. Still, who knows? Maybe she’s just being a stubborn ass. As she looked at some jams and wondered if she should bring some for her sister back home, she heard a muffled advice coming her way. “Slow down hombre, what?” She inched a little closer, not getting much of what he said but recalling the words ‘a few dollars less’, which was enough to get her interested.
Tumblr media
Yao chuckled softly, presuming his effort to be discreet had worked a little too well if he hadn’t been heard clearly. “Oh, I was just saying, if you’re looking for delicious jam for less, they’ve got some down over there,” Yao turned a bit and pointed down the aisle to a little cow-print tent where the ice creamery was housed. “I mean I’m sure it’s all good, but I like to save when I can. Dunno about you.”

starter call -> @ximenaflores where : downtown providence peak
For as much as Mei wears them, she could say in this moment she absolutely hates heels. Especially when she’s walking downtown, and the modest four inch pair she’d chosen to wear that day, suddenly snaps out from under her when she steps forward. Luckily, she finds a seat nearby to inspect the damage. Unluckily, she has nothing on her to fix it until she can get back to her office to put on her gym shoes. She wasn’t very well going to walk downtown barefoot. That was just asking to get some type of infection, or her mother calling her about so-and-so seeing her in such a state.
Fortunately, it was lunch hour.
“Excuse me?” She tried to grab the attention of a woman passing by, “Do you by chance have glue or tape or anything of the sort?”

After a sleepless flight, Ximena ended up collapsing on her hotel bed and falling asleep through noon before waking up and realizing her mistake; goddamn it, she is meeting her daughter tomorrow for the first time in forever, and she’s jet-lagged, wonderful. Just wonderful. In order to get distracted she located a Mexican restaurant; while she wasn’t hungry, she figured 5$ for a margarita was a good enough deal for her. Sitting near the counter, she took a sip of her drink and frowned. “That’s not strong enough.” She mentioned jokingly to the woman sitting beside her.

After consoling her best friend for a night and still not believing she’d done enough, Ver needed a drink special and a comfort meal in the form of her favorite Mexican restaurant. On top of everything else that was weighing heavily on her shoulders, she was half-convinced she was near her breaking point. The joke of the woman next to her pulled a smile to her features. “I think they go a little light handed on the pouring because of the two for one special they’re always running. One drinks turns into two and two turns into four, because you can’t not get the special,” she hummed, speaking from experience. “I’m sure you could sweet talk them into adding another shot if you’d rather.”

“Merhaba, güzel bayan.” Nazli smiled at the sight of her friend. While it hasn’t been too long since she made a job offer to Ximena and learned more about her past, she was going to try to not touch on the subject today. For today to simply be about two friends meeting up for smoothies and just spending some time together. She was sipping on a pomegranate and orange smoothie, humming softly before sitting back in her seat. “Did you get to go to the fair recently? Apparently, it was all for someone who’s running for mayor. Have to admit, if I was more interested in the politics of this town and been a citizen here longer, I’d be tempted to vote for her. Purely to shake things up a bit.”

CLOSED STARTER
After a busy shift, Alicia was looking forward to a homecooked meal which Ben was supposed to be cooking - only to find out that he had been roped into an emergency and was actually going to get home later than she was. With Hazel full of energy after a playful day at childcare, Alicia knew she wouldn’t have enough energy to whip up a meal for her and Ben and make Hazel her food too. So she decided to get a takeout for her and Ben instead. She had just picked up the order from the store, and moved to the side to check her items before realizing that her burrito was labeled as chicken and not carnitas. The server had disappeared but luckily she recognized the woman who was picking up her own order.  “¡Hola! They didn’t give you the carnitas burrito by any chance, did they?”

─── starter for @ximenaflores
Tumblr media
FARMER’S MARKET, DOWNTOWN ─── Since Ben was going to be with him for Labor Day, Sam had a plan of laidback ways to spend the day. Once of those activities had been to enjoy the shade in the backyard while eating watermelon. It was a summer pastime that had been hard for him to let go of. Every year, at least once, Sam would try to relive the memory from his childhood and teenage years— in the backyard of his family home in New York. He and his father used to have competitions of who could spit the seeds the furthest and even though he knew now that his father had always let him win, those victory moments still gave him some warm fuzzies. “Hey, sorry, serious question here,” Sam said as he turned to the woman beside him, “how can you tell if a watermelon is ripe?”

The black shirt she’d gone with was far too short for the length of her legs that seemed to go on for miles. In the full length mirror of her apartment, it hadn’t seemed so bad, but the breeze that had welcomed her on the journey inside of the nightclub had made her feel like maybe another inch or two could have been her saving grace. With confidence on edge, it only made sense that the bar was the first stop of the night, despite all of the cool happenings within the club itself. To her surprise, she wasn’t the only way looking solace within in a bottle. “Hopefully they pour heavier than Tequila Little Time,” she greeted with a soft smile as she slid into the open spot at the woman’s side. “What are you having tonight?” When the bartender moved in her direction, she rattled off her go-to drink and turned back towards the other. “Rum and coke is the move for me. Like I said, tequila rarely works out in my favor.”

Ximena’s face softened when the guy gave himself a hard time for having a flat tire, “Don’t worry, it happens to all us.” She reassured him, knowing that the other reason she’s so proficient in fixing up these situations is the fact she is especially prone to flat tires. “It is, but don’t worry, it’s fixable.” She promised him, “Do you got another one in the trunk?”
Tumblr media
Antoine was still berating himself internally as Ximena spoke. He ran his fingers through his thick hair and, when she spoke, he looked up at her and glanced towards the back of the car. He knew he had a spare, but he wasn’t sure exactly where it was kept on the car. Which probably meant it was hanging from the car’s undercarriage. He sighed. “Yeah,” he said, already annoyed at the prospect of going under the car to get a heavy rubber tire. “I’m just...not looking forwards to how I’m going to have to get it.”

Ximena made her way back to her hotel with her newly purchased groceries; admittedly, she went a little overboard with shopping, but she couldn't help but to buy every strange product that sparked her curiosity. Besides, who knows for how long she'll be here to enjoy all of these American foods? On her stroll she noticed a person standing on the side of the road near their car, with an obvious flat tire. "Need help?" She asked in her slight accent, figuring she might as well do something good with her time in town.

Ximena smiled at the woman upon realizing she’s a mother, “I can only imagine how that feels like.” She nodded, though knowing exactly what working your ass off and taking care of a kid was like; only difference was that the jobs she dabbled in were less dignified than being a doctor, to say the least. “I feel like the life of a woman is a tarea imposible.” She agreed with Alicia. “Ay, not dangerous, right?” She made sure, as she heard a lot of big words she didn’t understand and wanted to know she’s not at risk. “Okay, no running for now.” She scoffed, shrugging her shoulders. Not a too big of a loss, probably. Now she got a legit excuse to be lazy and stay at her hotel room. “Uh, yeah. Lots of drama too.” She frowned, not really having a great time reconnecting with her local family in particular. “Still, thank you, I appreciate it.”
Tumblr media
.
“It truly is. I’m lucky to have an amazing husband who’s always helping me out. His mother is a lifesaver too. She’s always taking care of Hazel when we need someone to look after her, even if it’s on short notice. And if she can’t we’ve got some wonderful friends who help us out instead. I just hate asking people to look after a child that’s my responsibility, you know?” At the end of the day she was the kid’s mother and ultimately she wanted to be the one go raise the girl and look after her as much as she could. “Not dangerous at all. It will take time to heal but you will be fine,” she assured the other with a nod of her head before letting out a soft chuckle. “That’s the gist of it, yes. No running for at least two weeks, and then start slow. Walking first,” she instructed the other, not wanting the woman’s injury to get worse. “I am so sorry. Family drama is the worst.”

There were a lot of skills that Tyler had never had the chance to develop in her life and dealing with things like a flat tire was one of the many. After running over a nail and finding the whole tire shredded, Ty had no idea what to do with it. She didn’t have a spare, she didn’t have a cell phone to call anyone, and the angry mental pleas that she was sending out were getting her nowhere. So, she was now lounging on the hood of her truck waiting for someone to figure it out for her instead. Head shifting over to the woman that was approaching, Ty gestured vaguely towards the tire. “Yeah, that thing is broken.”

“Some people are, but yeah, very rare.” Ximena agreed, recalling how in all of her time she spent as a lost young person in America, more people tried to take advantage of her rather than help. Amelie was the one person who served as her saving grace, and it was heartbreaking to know how she won’t ever be able to thank her. “Ay ay, people are dumb.” She scoffed, shaking her head at Alicia’s honest reasonings. “Exactly. Not to us though, just towards the grandkids.” She joked, smirking at the woman.
Tumblr media
.
“It’s sad, really. You just have to be careful and surround yourself with the right people as much as possible.” Trusting no one was not truly an option is one wanted to live a sane life, but being careful was always a good idea. “That’s true,” she added with a nod before letting out a soft chuckle. “Of course, being nice to us is never a possibility.” She spotted the snow cone man passing by and smiled. “Hey, do you want a snow cone? According to my husband the flavors are amazing.”

Ximena let out a small smirk as Alicia mentioned if it’s daughter-approved, it must be of fine quality. She remembered how exciting it was each time Emmy tried a new food, she was still around for that part. “I bet.” She nodded, “How old is she?” She asked curiously, trying to have a mental picture in her head. “Yes, all good. I heard there’s some kind fair going on this week, I might check it out.” She noted. “I’m sure, with the kid, and being a doctor and all… Each one of them is busy on their own, but together? That is a lot.” She chuckled.
Tumblr media
.
Considering how Hazel ate almost everything, it wasn’t such a difficult thing to get her to eat them. But if she ate the entire serving it meant it was wonderful and that was exactly what happened the first time she let her try the carnitas. “She’s nine months old now,” Alicia said with a smile that always came with speaking about the little one. “Yes, out in Bighorn Hills. It’s some kind of political campaign. I can’t believe someone’s running against Ava but I guess it’s always good to have some competition.” Still, being friends with Ava made her feel bad about going but she knew Hazel would love it. “Yeah, it is quite busy. Thankfully my mother-in-law helps us out a lot.”
