About the languages in TWST
Since i'm a bit of a language nerd, i like to think about the languages in TWST and who would speak which one in my spare time instead of being normal. I didn't do a whole bunch of research for this one and am mostly pulling things out of my brain so by all means let me know if I made a mistake anywhere or missed something.
(This is why you'll get a rare theory post from me about this instead of my usual fics 🤭)
It's shown that some real languages exist in TWST canon like french (spoken by Rook) and by the fact that Yuu can communicate with the characters just fine even tho they're in a different world, implying the language they speak is known to us.
Which brings me to my first point, the language everyone collectively speaks in NRC (and other big gatherings of mixed cultures) is english. Much like the real world, english is considered the "universal language" in TWST and is the one most people learn as their second language in schools. The game is in japanese so the japanese players can understand it, obviously, but they do imply that a japan-esque country exists through the new years events so I would say they speak japanese exclusively there and english in general.
And yes, this does mean I think some characters have accents when speaking english.
There's also other languages that are implied by the fact that Ruggie learned 10 languages just to negotiate with people in them, though it isn't known if they're real languages or fictional ones. Point is, there's at least ten.
Now, to the fun part. I based a lot of my HCS on existing Disney movie native language videos and theories but some are just my own personal thoughts hehe
Riddle, Trey, Chenya and Ace all speak british english. This one's pretty simple, Alice in wonderland takes place in England so that makes the choice obvious.
Cater is from the Shaftlands and his family did move around a lot when he was a kid so giving him an exact language is sorta hard because the Shaftlands are so varied in culture (and language too, by that logic). But for simplicity I'll just say he knows some other european languages aside from English. For this same reason I don't really think he has an accent.
Leona's mother tongue is Zulu since the Lion King was dubbed in Zulu, making it the first african language to get a full-feature dub made for it (aside from egyptian arabic). That wasn't exactly relevant but I just wanted to mention it. But since he's a prince and has access to a lot of education from an early age, he learned other languages as a child including English, which is why he doesn't have an accent.
Ruggie also speaks Zulu, but considering the thing I mentioned earlier, I think he also speaks other african languages like Xhosa or Swahili or Fulani as well as some non-african languages to some degree. I do think he speaks English with an accent, since he speaks differently to the other characters even in the japanese dub. (I know it was most likely done to make him sound more hyena-like i guess but let me have my moment!!)
Jack speaks German since he comes from the same neighborhood as Vil (I'll elaborate more in Vil's part). I do like to think he has a slight accent though hehe.
For Jade, Floyd and Azul I had a bit of trouble deciding on what language to assign them (by that I mean I'm still undecided), but maybe I would assign them a more northern language since they come from a northern part of the coral sea??? then again languages on the surface might not have a bearing on languages in the sea, especially since humans and merfolk couldn't interact well throughout history...
Kalim and Jamil are both obvious, they speak Arabic. Not much to say here haha.
Vil speaks German since Snow White takes place in Germany AND his surname is German. He doesn't have much of an accent if any at all because he learned english early on to be able to film movies in english for a wider global appeal.
Now for Epel I could really have fun. I know saying this kinda retcons the fact that his dialect is in the same language as the one everyone speaks (so English), but I believe he speaks in Plattdeutsch or Low German which can be quite difficult to understand when spoken in it's true form. He could speak a totally different dialect of a different language but I went w German because of continuity and also I feel like it'd make for a funnier dynamic with Vil. Defo has a bit of an accent.
Neige is a native french speaker simply going off his french name, though I do think he knows how to speak german as well (mostly because I want my "snow white takes place in germany" copium for Neige). I don't think it's been confirmed where Neige is from tho.
Now for Rook, since he was born in Sunset Savana, he also speaks Zulu as his first language. He's a mysterious fellow and all and could have learned french for a different motive, but I have a far more interesting HC. Since he's Neige's biggest fanboy, he learned french because Neige speaks it and he associates Neige with beauty. (and also haven't we all tried learning korean for our kpop bias at some point???)
Idia and Ortho are another obvious one, the language being Greek. Hercules takes place in Greece, obviously, and the Island of Woe still has some Greek architecture so I'd assume the language stayed too. Idia doesn't have much of an accent because being chronically online gives u exposure to so much english you don't retain an accent (assuming he's been on the internet since he was a little boy). Ortho? Maybe? Idia could have removed an accent on purpose when making a voicebox for Ortho or he could have kept it in for accuracy sake.
Malleus and the Diasomnia gang are another hard one to place. Sleeping Beauty takes place in France, but somehow saying they speak french feels wrong. I feel like they speak some fantasy language that doesn't exist. I would say give them the language where fae originate in folklore if I had to give them a real language but SOOOO many different folklores have them that it'd be hard to pick one.
Rollo speaks French, really obvious.
Let me know about your opinions and thoughts on this and help me figure out what to do with Octavinelle and Diasomnia since i am LOST on them 😭

i just watched this INCREDIBLE south african horror film called good madam (mlungu wam in xhosa, which is the primary spoken language in the film) which is a really tense summoning of the ghosts of colonialism & apartheid & how they still haunt the continent today, & all the reviews are by americans who are like "i didn't get it :\ it was too slow :\ it wasn't in english & idk what the ending means :\" I DO NOT THINK IT WAS PARTICULARLY SUBTLE. i don't want to spoil any of it because i genuinely think people should watch it, but like... given the parallels between antiblackness in south africa & the US, i don't think it should be that hard???? for americans like me to understand a movie that's very overtly about white colonization & how the effects of slavery linger long after the practice is abolished??? GOD i want to write an essay about this film, i wish i was back in film class. maybe it helps a little that i've specifically taken classes in african cinema but i think only in the way that "it's too slow" didn't bother me because a lot of african storytelling is like that, & it's different but different is fine. but i didn't even think the film was that slow!!!!! it was about building tension!!!! WHAT THE FUCK DID THESE PEOPLE NOT GET, ugh how annoying!!

Relationships: Steve x Bucky, Bucky & Shuri friendship, Avengers as family
Word Count: 1.2k
CW: Fluff, Found Family, slightly insecure Bucky, Everett Ross looks like Bilbo Baggins
Steve stood, leaning against the wall of the common room, with a soft smile on his face as he watched Bucky flitting back and forth like a busy bee. His brunette boyfriend was plumping cushions, and reangling the sofa by minute increments, in between running to the little kitchenette and checking the cookies he was baking.
Steve had tried to get Bucky to relax a bit, but it had gotten to the point where the easiest thing was just to stay out of his way. Bucky would no doubt chill out when his guest arrived. Speaking of which…
There was a rumble from above them - the sound of a jet landing atop the roof of the tower - and Bucky turned to Steve, panic plastered across his face. Steve pushed off the wall, walked over to Bucky and placed his hands on Bucky’s upper arms, rubbing them soothingly.
“Do you think she’ll like it, Stevie?” Bucky was cute when he was flustered and Steve had to resist the urge to drop a kiss to the end of his nose.
“She’s gonna love it, Buck. I know you two haven’t seen each other in a while and she’s gonna be impressed with the effort you’ve put in.”
There was a commotion out in the corridor and then there she was, coming into the common room, definitely not looking like she’d been on a long international flight. Her braids were tight to the crown of her head and cascaded down her back and she wore a brilliant white tracksuit and matching sneakers.
“James!” Shuri squealed and ran towards Bucky, wrapping her arms tightly around his middle and almost knocking him over. Steve stepped back and smiled at the sweet reunion. “How is my favourite white boy?”
Bucky blushed and rubbed at the back of his head, as Shuri took a seat on one of the stools at the side of the kitchenette.
“I’m good,” he replied. “I miss Wakanda. I miss you. But it’s good to be home and be with this idiot.” He jerked his thumb in Steve’s direction and Shuri giggled.
“Hey,” cried Steve but he was still smiling. He moved forward again and threw his arm around Bucky’s shoulders, pulling him close. “Less of the ‘idiot, please.”
Bucky turned to look at him, a perfectly kissable pout on his lips. “But you’re my idiot.”
“Gak! You two are positively nauseating. Save it for later.” Shuri hopped down from the stool and playfully shouldered Steve out of the way, linking her arm through Bucky’s and steering him over to one of the sofas where she pulled him down to continue their conversation in Xhosa. Steve shook his head and chuckled to himself before heading to the oven to check on Bucky’s cookies. They were a rich golden brown colour, so he pulled out the pan and left it on the side for the contents to cool.
Bucky had been excited from the moment Shuri had contacted them to say she was coming for a visit. After his time in Wakanda, and with all of the help that Shuri had given him, Bucky thought of her like a sister and was determined that she was going to have the best time. It was Friday today, so what better way to start than inviting her to attend the regular movie night at the Tower?
Steve had been glad when the others had recognised what a big deal this was for Bucky, and all agreed that he could pick the film and organise the snacks, even though it wasn’t his turn. Even Tony had been gracious, which Steve was grateful for. It was nice to see the two of them starting to get on, because they had a lot of interests in common, although Steve wasn’t quite sure if he was ready for them to become as thick as thieves - it wouldn’t bode well for his sanity.
As the clock turned eight, the others slowly started to appear, and Bucky excused himself from Shuri to help Steve move all the snacks to the various coffee tables dotted about between the couches and beanbags. Nat and Clint had already taken up residence on one of the plush sofas’ having an animated discussion in ASL. Clint had been on a hearing break this afternoon, but had said he’d turn his aids back on when the movie started. Steve tried to keep up with what they were saying, but when they were signing that fast, and the ASL was sprinkled with the pair’s own unique slang, it was hard to follow. Something about a bet and apparently Clint had lost.
Sam jogged in then, raising a hand in greeting to Steve and then throwing himself down next to Nat and wrapping his arms around her waist, earning him a glare for disrupting her conversation.
Bruce and Peter appeared after that, the former with his head still in a sheaf of papers that Nat would probably have to pry from his hands as the intro credits started, and the latter full of his usual boundless energy, practically vibrating his way over to the Princess of Wakanda. If anyone was a match for Bucky on the excitement level for this visit, it was Peter. He’d already pestered Bucky about getting some of his own time with Shuri on the schedule, eager to get her input on some of his personal projects down in Tony’s lab. Tony had been full of mock outrage at that announcement, but had confided later in Steve that he thought it was good for the young man to ‘nerd out’ with someone of his own age.
Speaking of Tony, as usual he was the last to appear, looking slightly unkempt and, from the expressions on Pepper and Rhodey’s faces, as though he’d had to be physically dragged away from his latest hyperfixation.
Having set out all of the food, Bucky pushed his way back onto the sofa with Shuri and Peter, the three of them talking animatedly for a few minutes. Steve watched on with a smile. It was odd not to have Bucky cuddled up to him during movie night, but it was nice to observe his boyfriend and watch him be happy. He made his way through the crowd of people and managed to snag a beanbag at Bucky’s side of the couch, sitting down and leaning his head on Bucky’s thigh.
Eventually everyone settled down and Bucky started the movie. It came as no surprise to any of the Avengers when a clarinet solo started to play as the black screen slowly revealed “The Hobbit.”
“That explains the pork pies,” Sam teased.
“And the teeny tiny pastries, thank you for not trying to poison me” said Pepper, before popping a small blackberry tart into her mouth.
Tony rolled his eyes. “That was like one time. You’re never gonna let me live that one down are you?” Pepper smirked around her mouthful and shook her head.
Shuri leaned across to Bucky. “Have you themed the food to the movie?”
Even in the dim lighting, Steve knew Bucky was blushing and gave his knee a reassuring squeeze.
“You said you’d never seen it, so wanted to give you the full experience. Hobbits love comforting food.”
“You are too sweet, James,” the princess declared and pressed a kiss to Bucky’s cheek. Steve grinned. “Now, pass me one of those cookies and let me watch your Hobbit movie.”
They were only a few minutes in when Shuri sat bolt upright in her seat. “Wait, wait. Does that man look just like…”
The others all cut her off with a loud “Yes” before bursting into laughter. Bucky looked down at Steve and tapped his finger on the back of Steve’s hand three times. Steve smiled in return, tapped back and then rested his head back on Bucky’s knee.
Bucky might be too tall to be considered a Hobbit, but he embodied all of the other main traits of the primary character from his favourite book - loyalty, honour, and a willing heart - and Steve couldn’t be prouder to call him his partner.

To the world, sincerely, a tired black artists and my fellow creatives
A lot of the weird demonization of Rema’s visuals really made me sad. I’m not surprised at the lack of cultural knowledge about Edo people and Benin City, Nigeria — virtually everywhere outside of the continent, African history, culture and traditions aren’t taught unless you are in special programs or majors. But to call something demonic and satanic because you don’t understand? The blatant xenophobia and racism has me so furious. I know we have a lot of unlearning to do, but I had imagined that the colonial ways of viewing black Africans was not alive and thriving amongst the diaspora. To see so many black Christian’s come together in the name of their white gods and forced religion to call something so sentimental, historically important and significant for Rema and many others demonic is like having a weird ‘dejavu’.
Everyday I think about how I see too many people complain about lack of representation of black people from all around the world in media; wether it be movies, tv, fiction, music genre and other industries predominantly white — and now, given visuals and such cool performance, we do as our oppressors once did. Word for word. It’s disgusting and I hope everybody who partook educated themselves and do better.
When will my people know peace when it comes to trying to share, showcase and be proud of what we’ve created? I never forgot how Fufu became a laughing stock, how so many still mock their parents pronunciations knowing that’s their third of even fourth language. And don’t let me start on Nollywood or the diasporic movie industries — why must you laugh when you don’t understand? Question things, yes, be curious and explore. But mocking?
To all my fellow Africans and black people of the diaspora— one day, we will be in a world where we’re known for more then our struggles. Where were not mocked for our ‘incorrect’ speech of languages violently forced upon us, that we adapted to fit who we are and our origins. One day we will have peace; no more silent genocides, or loud ones. No more having to hide our roots, traditions, practices, art/creations. Be ashamed of any aspects of our culture that does not warrant shame.
I ask that if you want representation, you seek it out because trust me it is out there. The continent has so many creations — sure some harder to find or consume due to language barriers but we all witnessed K-drama’s boom. You can watch French, Spanish and English films — so why are subtitles not good enough when it’s in Igbo? Xhosa? Wolof? Zulu? Bafang?
I ask that everybody, including myself, start to give africa it’s flowers. The more we pour into the good — art, creations, industries etc that inspire more to create and expand, the more we will see the uprise of what has always been within the continent but never given much thought by most of the world because it is African and the quality is regarded as ‘lesser’.
And I hope I get to witness more great artist come from all around the motherland, and be part amongst them when I eventually complete my African/Black centered work ✌🏾

#MovieTime - "The Wound" is a gripping and intense drama directed by John Trengove. The film follows the story of Xolani, a lonely factory worker who returns to his rural hometown in South Africa to participate in an ancient Xhosa circumcision ritual.
As a mentor to a group of teenage boys, Xolani is tasked with overseeing their initiation into manhood. However, when he takes a young initiate under his wing, a forbidden love affair unfolds, forcing Xolani to confront the dangerous and complex dynamics of tradition, masculinity, and sexuality.
With powerful performances and stunning cinematography, "The Wound" explores the deep-seated tensions between tradition and modernity, desire and duty, in a world where ancient rites collide with contemporary realities.

Marvel Studios: Voices Rising - The Music Of Wakanda Forever [Series]
Episode #1: "Nigeria: Past is Present" [available on Disney +] [w/ time stamps to follow along]
- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -
▻ "Soundtrack's like this just don't happen anymore, with the high percentage of the songs that are embedded in the movie, and to this level of cultural specificity." - Ryan Coogler [Director] [0:00]
▻ "Here you have a story that intertwines people [Wakandans & Talokanil] of beautiful, rich ethnicities. What do you do with that as a composer? You use it!” - Letitia Wright [Princess Shuri] [0:14]
▻ We learn that Ryan Coogler and Ludwig Göransson first started off as friends, meeting one another at a film school [USC]. They then hit it off from their joint love of Swedish music. "They make magic together, and they seem to just pick up where the other has left off. They just have this seamless way of getting in each other's heads and hearts, and it ends up creating such incredible music.” - Lupita Nyong'o [Nakia] [1:51]
▻ The first Black Panther soundtrack is heavily inspired by Chadwick Boseman's Black Panther and his overall character. After his passing, they had to go back to square one. "I couldn't really imagine what the movie [soundtrack] would feel or look like without Chadwick in it. So, I'm basically going into this experience starting from scratch." - Ludwig Göransson [Composer] [2:42]
▻ They [Ryan and Ludwig] chose to go to Nigeria, Lagos to recruit artists and composers, it being a major hotspot for music in the world currently. "What Lagos is to music right now is what London was to music in its heyday. What New York was to hip-hop in the 90's. I genuinely believe the most exciting music in the world is being made in Lagos." - Seni Saraki [Music Consultant] [3:16]
▻ "Ludwig came to Lagos, because he, as a creative, understands the need to feed off of the energy of a particular place." - Fireboy DML [Artist] [4:04]
▻ There were a huge mixture of both contemporary artists [ie. singers, rappers, etc] and traditional artists [ie. musicians, instrumentalists for the score such as, but not limited to: Jedalo Percussion Ensemble, Fusion Nigeria] coming together to create this soundtrack. Instruments such as, but not limited to, the: sato drum, sakara drum, iyaálù bata, omele bata, kakaki horn, ojà flute, goje were all used on the traditional side. "Everyday we had different sessions with musicians that would come from different tribes from the Igbo, from the Hausa, from Yoruba and they would have their own instruments and different types of set of drums." - Ludwig Göransson [Composer] [5:57] Ryan and Ludwig are seen workshopping ideas of scenes and where musical segments may exist in the movie during these musical sessions [7:28]
▻ "He [Ludwig] and Ryan had been talking about it for years. ‘Let's write songs just for this film.’ There's no licensed tracks." - Monica Sonand [Score Supervisor] [9:39]
▻ “The generation that I'm in right now is speaking Afrobeats. We are all doing our own things individually, but as a unit together, we are pushing the culture. This is Afrobeats. This is Niger. This is Lagos. We're taking that old culture with us to the world." - Fireboy DML [Artist] [10:48] His song “Coming back for you" was used towards the end of the movie in the scene where Shuri is shown planting the heart-shaped herb [12:15]
▻ Ryan and Ludwig wanted to have artists who sang in Xhosa [the language of the Wakandans] so they did their research and flew out artists from South Africa to Nigeria to meet with them. The music style “Amapiano” had the sound that they were looking for, which plays on most South African radio. "It's so unique and it comes out of the club scene there [South Africa] and it makes you want to dance. What I love about that music [Amapiano] is that it feels futuristic to me." - Ludwig Göransson [Composer] [15:05]
▻ Ryan, Ludwig and artist Bloody Civilian are shown brainstorming Bloody’s beats pack she made for them, discussing where her track may exist. She showed them her song “How to kill a man. “I was very nervous, but the environment felt safe and everyone's creativity was just going. It didn't really feel like work at some point." - Bloody Civilian [Artist + Producer] [23:04] Her final track in the movie “Wake up" ft Rema is about "pushing yourself regardless of the things that try to pull you back." - Bloody Civilian [Artist + Producer] [24:33]
▻ Some of the African producers involved were ecstatic to have representation of a variety of African artists and sounds on this Marvel movie and it’s soundtrack. "I think the album sounds like Wakanda!" - Osarumen Osamuyi [Music Producer] [25:28]
▻ "I've been able to travel here [Nigeria] with Ryan, one of my closest friends. Doing something like this together where we can share this experience has been such a blessing." - Ludwig Göransson [Composer] [25:52] "It was really important for us [Ludwig and him] to come to West Africa. Myself being African-American, a lot of my heritage is from here like most African-Americans. The biggest take away for me is the personal connection that I have myself. I'm constantly looking at people saying ‘that person looks like my cousin, that person looks like my friend, that person looks like my brother.' That experience is one that's very different from being a black man that was born and raised in a predominantly white country. Folks born on the continent often take for granted to just walk down the street and everybody looks like them. That wasn't my truth. That wasn’t my reality. It's a very strange experience to fly for thousands of miles and land somewhere you've never been, but it feels like home. There's a beauty to that, but also a sadness that comes with it.” - Ryan Coogler [Director] [26:06]

It's Marvel movie day and we are up to Black Panther: Wakanda Forever.
This movie was controversial before it was even made. The tragic death of Chadwick Boseman left Marvel between a rock and a hard place with regard to how to respectfully handle his character.
Chadwick fought for this character. He made this character his own. The only reason T'Challa speaks with his now-iconic Xhosa accent is because Chadwick refused to allow his character to talk like a European colonizer. Marvel wanted to give him a British accent to convey how smart and educated he is, and Chadwick said no.
Because that very idea, the assumption that European accents sound smarter and more educated, is white supremacy in action. And Chadwick refused to let it take root here, of all places.
And then, one day, he was gone.
Marvel chose to bury this character with his actor, and to make an entire film dedicated to grieving him. It's beautiful. It's tragic. It pulls at the heartstrings and thoroughly examines the pain and hardship of loss.
And it's not what he would have wanted. According to his family, Chadwick believed Black Panther to be something larger than himself. He wanted to give young black boys a hero they could aspire to, someone who looks like them and talks like them and would be here for them. This wasn't his character; It was a legacy he was proud to become a part of that dated back decades.
A legacy he would have wanted to continue beyond him.
But the other side of that coin is a movie that seems tailor-made for empowering and inspiring black girls. Black Panther had already been a movie bursting at the seams with powerful women of color. Now, in T'Challa's absence, those women step forward to take center stage.
The legacy continues, even if the characters have changed.
It's all very complicated, is what I'm driving at. This was a huge controversy because there is so much going on here. So many factors that there are probably several that I've missed in my summary of it all.
So who's right? Who's wrong? Or is it so complicated that both sides have a point? I don't know. I can explain to you the question to the best of my ability, but I don't have the answers here. I can only encourage you to seek out black voices, men and women alike, and hear what they have to say on the matter.

Can’t Stay Away’s Fic Rec Friday #1 (04.14.23) - ilangatye by @dittany-6413
Title: ilangatye (ao3)
Author(s): Dittany_6413 (ao3) | @Dittany_6413 (Tumblr)
Fandom(s): Black Panther Wakanda Forever
Pairing/Ship(s): Namor x Shuri
Type: Canon Compliant | Post BPWF | Enemies to Loves | Hurt/Comfort
Rating: Mature
Status: Work In Progress
Updated: 04.12.23
Summary: ilangatye - flame (Xhosa) | “Do you remember our conversation, princess? Exactly one year ago from today?” asked Namor. | “Of course,” replied Shuri, “we called each other cowards.” | Namor chuckled lightly, “That’s a deep cut, but it was true,” | Three years after the battle, Shuri sought reconciliation, and Namor sought to control. Instead, they found themselves surrendering.
Why I Love It: I often discover things like this late at night when I can’t sleep and I can’t stop fantasizing. This was a welcome relief to pass the time I spent in insomnia some nights ago.
I ate the whole thing up in a couple of hours read time. It’s one of the most mature explorations of this dynamic between film canon Shuri and Namor as they exist after the events of BPWF. While everyone can reasonably acknowledge that in real life, the idea of falling in love with the person who took the life of your mother is not rationally justifiable, those of us who can see a way for fictional characters to come around to it do appreciate the sensible approach.
You can ignore the un-sensible and suspend disbelief in most cases, but when you are presented with something that comes close to making sense in the world of fiction, it leaves room for unburdened enjoyment. This story does that. It unburdens the reader the same way it unburdens Shuri. Nothing is gone. Grief, sadness, anger, disgust – it’s all there. But as a human tends to do with lesser stakes in real life, so does a well-written character do with more dramatic stakes in a narrative. So does Shuri here. She connects, she learns, she grows. Namor is a calculating God, who gives Shuri what she wants under the guise of manipulation, but if you read between the lines drawn here, the author is actually telegraphing the nature of his true feelings and motivations for yielding to Shuri in more ways than just in the ways of war and diplomacy. He loves her, and will make himself weak in the eyes of his people for her, understanding that together they will be stronger. I would classify this as a slow burn, not in the traditional way you may think.
It’s calm, it’s introspective, it’s thorough, it takes itself seriously in how it handles the subject, but it knows what it is: fictional, hypothetical, fantastical. The characters have arcs you can track. Give it a chance, go on the journey. Follow the author’s updates here on Tumblr.

Facts about the Marvel movies
Anthony Hopkins Improvised The Banishment Of Thor The MCU won a major coup by landing Sir Anthony Hopkins to portray Odin, the All-Father. Combined with the Shakespearean directing of Kenneth Branagh, Hopkins turned in a memorable and commanding performance as Thor’s father, and at least some of that performance was improvised. Branagh allowed Hopkins to improvise much of the emotional banishment scene in Thor.
Three Marvel Movies Take Place In The Same Week After the massive success of Iron Man in 2008 set the Marvel Cinematic Universe off and running, Marvel Studios decided to follow it up with a sequel and two standalone films. The events of Iron Man 2, The Incredible Hulk, and Thor overlap little on the surface, but according to Marvel canon, these stories all take place within the same week.
Chris Evans Turned Down The Role Of Captain America…Three Times! Few superhero actors better embody their character than Chris Evans does Captain America. From his looks to his voice to his earnestness, Evans has forever become the face of the Star-Spangled Avenger—a role he initially avoided. Evans turned down the opportunity to play Cap not once, not twice, but three times before finally being convinced to take the part. Evans feared being brought down by the multi-picture contract that came with the job.
Captain America’s 'List' Changes Depending On What Country It’s Being Viewed In Throughout the entirety of Captain America: The Winter Soldier, fans witness Steve Rogers adjusting to a world that aged without him. To help himself acclimate, Cap keeps a running list of things he needs to catch up on, like Nirvana, Star Wars, and the Troubleman soundtrack. However, that’s just the list that North American audiences got to see. The list appears differently in other markets, thereby making the references more relevant for fans all over the world. In the UK, Cap needs to check out Sean Connery and the 1966 World Cup Final, while in Russia he’s tasked with reviewing Yuri Gargarin and the dissolution of the Soviet Union, and so on and so forth. Talk about a committed soldier.
'Wakandan' Is Actually A Real South African Language, Xhosa Chadwick Boseman, an American actor, developed a Wakandan accent for his role as the Black Panther, an accent that sounds rich, intimidating, and believable. It probably helps that he’s not making the language up completely from scratch. Other fictional universes, like that of Avatar, created entire languages for their characters to speak. Instead of going down such a tedious route, Marvel Studios decided to use the real-world language of Xhosa as a stand-in for the fictional Wakandan dialect. Xhosa is an official language of South Africa, the homeland of John Kani, the actor portraying T’Chaka, though it is not widely spoken there.
The MCU Has Its Own News Channel Marvel fleshed out the cinematic universe to become one of the most well-developed fictional realms in film history, but plenty of fans might not realize that it even has its own form of in-universe media. Marvel intermittently uploads videos to YouTube from WHIH Newsfront, a fictional news show set within the MCU. The segments star Leslie Bibb as Christine Everhart, the reporter who slept with Tony Stark in the first Iron Man film, and they cover all manner of MCU news—from coverage of the New York Incident to interviews with Scott Lang. Even in worlds of fantasy, you still need reporters to tell its story.
Gamora Didn't Know About Infinity Stones The MacGuffin in Guardians of the Galaxy is an object called the Orb which is sought after by a number of people. Gamora was meant to retrieve the Orb for Thanos but instead joined the other heroes to sell it to The Collector. However, The Collector explains that the Orb actually contains an Infinity Stone and they are all shocked by the power it possesses. However, Avengers: Infinity War proved that Gamora not only knew about the Infinity Stones beforehand, but she actually located the Soul Stone as well.
There's Only One Way To Defeat Thanos In Avengers: Infinity War, Doctor Strange uses the Time Stone to look at various alternate futures to see the outcome of their fight against Thanos. He sees that there is only one reality in which they are able to defeat the Mad Titan which is the one in which Tony Stark sacrifices himself. However, Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness finds the members of the Illuminati explaining that they also defeated Thanos in their universe when Strange used Dark Magic. It suggests that Tony's death might have been avoidable.
