Intercontinental collaborators, Catherine McCandless and Wynn Holmes, are welcoming 2022 with the release of their second song featuring production from Dan Lissvik (Studio/Atelje). ‘Light Of Dawn’ uses the metaphor of a maypole dance to bring sunlight and celebration into the repetitive and insular routines of our pandemic lives. A child-like, desirous, and imaginative voice sings above pastoral folk, harmonizing with Riches darkness. This song serenades the wash of the creative headspace over the lost and meaningless one. The duo say of the song: "'Light Of Dawn' began as deeply, classically folk, it's lyrics of utter devotion creating a tone that was quite romantic. Stockholm-based musician MYTRIZA discovers her songs by going through portals to theor worlds. She weaves together electronic dance elements with choir, world instruments and cinematic flavours, with imagery from nature, fairytales, myths and long forgotten magic. A true selfmade artist, she creates and engineers everything herself, and she playfully combines different art forms into a limitless and unique expression. She has just dropped her new single 'Lavender'. 'Lavender' is an eclectic eletro-pop track with ethereal vocals, deep bass and big synths. Mear

Mear is an indie pop collaboration between singer-songwriter Frances Miller and electronic composer Greg Harrison. Together their music combines catchy melodies and poignant lyrics with their shared love of experimental music. “In 2014, I lost the ability to do a lot of things I'd previously taken for granted,” explains Frances. “I wrote ‘The Order’ during my early experiences living with a post-viral chronic illness, at a time when I was grieving the loss of my health. I found I couldn't read for more than a few minutes a day and a short walk around the block could leave me bedridden. ‘The Order’ was an attempt to voice some of the pain and loneliness of that; of not understanding what was happening to me. This single is from our upcoming full-length album, which will be released on April 22. Being diagnosed with a chronic illness is often a long and painful journey full of misdiagnosis and gaslighting, "when nothing's right and nothing's wrong." Lou Mclean has released her new single ‘Shelf Life’. It marks a fresh musical direction for the singer-songwriter. Gone are the confessional folky ballads of last year’s ‘Locked Down in Leith’: ’Shelf Life’ is a blast of perfect, political pop. In a collaboration with production by Berta Kennedy, Lou tells a story of glossy objectification through a riot grrl pop lense. This song is representative of the emerging sound of ScotPop: fresh, feminist and fun. “Lockdown really allowed me to develop as an artist, and find a network of women in Scotland outside of my own scene, through groups like PopGirlz Scotland,” she says. “The concept for the song came from a writing prompt set out in the GRS SongCircle” (Mclean co-founded the venture with Lorraine Rahmani in 2017). In a space of women and non-binary songwriters, we get to be completely, authentically ourselves. Ex-Nemesis

Based in south-east London, UK, Ex-Nemesis is an up-and-coming singer-songwriter and producer marrying pop, rock and indie influences. Her desire to stay anonymous has allowed her to delve deep into the joys and anxieties of navigating your late teens/early 20s in this day and age. After years of recording demos on GarageBand then Logic Pro X in her bedroom, she has decided to start sharing her musical journey with the world. ‘Lessons’ is her debut single, out now. “I started writing 'Lessons' in June 2020 as my birthday was approaching and I was reflecting on the last few years,” says the artist. “'Lessons' is about feeling behind in life. Feeling like everyone your age is moving on with their lives but you are still stuck in the same place. But it isn’t meant to be a sad song. ASHERAH is the electronic pop alias of Miami-based singer, songwriter, producer, and composer, Ariel Morer. Produced in collaboration with left-field electronic music composer, Medulasa, ASHERAH’s debut EP, Ephemeral, is a coalescence of unexpected creative forces telling a highly personal tale of the grief process, through shimmering echoic sound design and haunting vocals with nods to Purity Ring, Lights, and Grimes. Allie Lune

Allie Lune is a Spanish-Colombian multi-instrumentalist and singer-songwriter whose poetic musings have a wholesome and youthful charm. She began writing music as a young teenager, experimenting with her self-taught guitar skills and exploring the world of putting together poetry and sound. Having developed her musical abilities since her days of writing soft songs in her bedroom in southern Spain, Allie’s heartfelt lyric writing and sweet, memorable melodies are nothing short of captivating. She aims to reach her listeners’ hearts through her music, encapsulating the hardships of becoming an adult but without taking herself or the world around her too seriously. Born in the UK and raised in a multicultural household, Allie’s inspiration can be found in a number of different artists, such as George Harrison, Natalia Lafourcade and Cariño. She is most heavily influenced by the indie popscene in Spain, as her own music sits happily in  the ‘tontipop’ genre. She writes in both English and Spanish. Allie’s debut single, titled ‘all the things i would do’, is out now. This song offers warmth and optimism and is sure to resonate with anyone who has been in love. Nikkita

Hailing from the suburbs of Perth, budding artist Nikkita brings a raw sense of honesty to the pop EDM landscape with her debut single ‘Looking Up,’ out now. Toeing the line between somber storytelling and anthemic banger, ‘Looking Up’ feels like the song we all need when the difficult edges of aloneness set in. Borrowing from the influences of Flume, Vera Blue and Alison Wonderland, Nikkita wraps her heartfelt words in the heavy undulating synths and thudding beats of future bass. Following the success of her first single release, Jakarta-born and raised, Sydney-based Alt-Soul Electronica music producer, singer and songwriter Putrika, is thrilled to release her second single ‘Rain On Tuesday’. It is a song about slowing down when you are moving fast. “’Rain on Tuesday’ was created on a rainy Tuesday morning during lockdown last year in my home studio in Sydney, Australia. Growing up in a big city like Jakarta and currently living in Sydney, there is always an urge to move fast. This song is about appreciating the time and learning how to slow down”, Putrika explains. ‘Rain on Tuesday’ is a combination of multi-layered synths, percussive and groovy beats, ambient soundscapes combined with soulful vocals. Levering ....

Het weer springt hier van de hak op de tak!  Vorige donderdag zat er lente in de lucht … het rook helemaal anders.  We zaten ’s middags op de gaanderij in de zon bij 25° (beschut wel hé) te mijmeren over het vertrek van Els, Nils en Fenno.  En gisteren sneeuwde het haast de hele dag met flinterdunne vlokjes die wel bleven liggen.  Toen we vanmorgen wakker werden, was er een flink pak sneeuw bij gekomen.

De hondjes vinden dat geweldig.  Na wat aarzelen aan de rand van de gaanderij, duiken ze de sneeuw in.  Het spelletje kan erg wild worden dan.  Maar Xena heeft blijkbaar toch begrepen dat de bomen blijven staan en zij zelf een ommetje moet maken.

De vogeltjes hebben het hard te verduren.  Soms vraag ik me af of het touwtje waarmee sommige voederhuisjes aan de tak hangen, wel sterk genoeg zal zijn om alles te dragen.  Geen plekje is nog onbenut … ik strooi nu twee keer per dag en dan ook op het dak van die huisjes, zodat er nog meer beestjes tegelijk kunnen eten.  De mezenbollen kunnen ook op veel bijval rekenen. Dit jaar zijn vooral de sijsjes talrijk aanwezig.

We maken ook weer nieuwe gevulde kokosnoten.  Met een mengsel van smout, strooivoer, nootjes en gedroogde meelwormen vullen we de noten en de mezenpotten.  Plastiekfolie er rond zorgt ervoor dat de vulling niet uitzakt tijdens het stollen.

Met ons voorraadje kunnen we weer een tijdje verder.  Zelfs de mussen vonden een creatieve oplossing om aan de noten te kunnen hangen terwijl ze snoepen.  Ze gebruiken hun staart als steun!

Eindelijk hebben we onze nieuwe zetel!  Hij zou tussen 8 en 15 dagen geleverd worden.  Prima voor ons.  Tegenwoordig gaat dat allemaal heel vlotjes en kan je je bestelling online volgen. Dus waren we heel blij toen we donderdagmorgen een bericht kregen dat de levering diezelfde dag nog zou gebeuren. We zouden nog een bericht ontvangen over het geschatte uur.  En wat doe je dan?  Je zit de hele tijd op hete kolen!  De oude zetel werd donderdagnamiddag opgehaald door iemand die hem best kon gebruiken.  Iedereen gelukkig!

Donderdagavond nog steeds niemand gezien.  Vrijdagmorgen opnieuw een mailtje dat de zetel die dag zou geleverd worden.  Kan gebeuren hé, dat het donderdagavond niet meer lukte.  Alle begrip hoor; de afstanden zijn hier groot.  Dus vrijdag alles vrij gemaakt zodat de zetel meteen op z’n plek zou kunnen.  Om vier uur krijgen we weer een mailtje … ons pakket zou arriveren binnen de twee uur.  Dan is het natuurlijk al donker … maar we doen de buitenverlichting aan. Om 19 uur nog steeds geen kat te zien … en ook geen leverancier!  We sturen een vrij kortaf bericht terug, maar natuurlijk zijn de bureaus al gesloten … ’t is weekend!

Maandagmorgen … juist … weer een berichtje dat de zending voor die dag is.  Ik stuur een antwoord dat ik hoop dat het dit keer wel correct is. Niet lang erna krijgen we telefoon … de chauffeur zelf (jaja in ’t Hongaars natuurlijk) legt uit dat hij heel zeker vandaag nog komt, maar het zal avond zijn.  Wat is dan avond hé …  Om 17 uur is er nog steeds niets.  Moedeloos worden we ervan.  Toch doen we maar weer de buitenverlichting aan.  Om 18u30 … stopt een camionette voor het hek!  Jaaaaa!!!!!

De drie dozen voor ons stonden helemaal achteraan … dus als we niet hadden aangedrongen, was de kans groot dat we weer niet aan de beurt kwamen voor alle pakjes die ervoor stonden,geleverd waren … Maar ja, de volgende dag komen er dan weer nieuwe pakjes bij hé ... zo kon het wel nog een tijdje doorgaan.  Dat is nu de eerste keer dat we zoiets meemaken, andere firma’s zijn altijd zeer correct geweest.

Maar goed, met een beetje knutselwerk stond de zetel een uurtje later in elkaar en konden we genieten van onze relax-sofa.  Met ingebouwde houders voor je glas en een opbergruimte in de armsteun.  Genieten maar!

First schoolday

29 augustus, op een normale dinsdag werd een Alien genaamd Xena wakker om half 7. In een ander bed, andere kamer, ander huis, plaats, land, continent. Mijn eerste ontbijt zal ik nooit vergeten, een smoothie gemaakt door Shelly. Ik weet niet helemaal zeker wat erin zat, maar jummy was het wel + het vulde goed! (Dat komt ook omdat het glas erg groot was) Shelly bracht ons naar school met de auto, te laat, maar ze bracht ons wel. Toen heb ik met de counselor gepraat om mijn vakken uit te kiezen. Dus hier in Amerika werkt het zo: je hebt 3 semesters in een schooljaar en voor elk kies je 5 vakken die je iedere dag hebt voor dat hele semester. Daarom duren de lessen ook 74 minuten. Ja dat is erg lang. Ik heb dit semester this schedule:

1st period: Choir (koor)

2nd period: Art (tekenen)

3rd period: Senior math (waar je tenminste wel nuttige dingen leert, niet zoals wiskunde in Nederland)

4rd period: U.S. History

And last 5th period: 10th grade English!

Ik werd rondgeleid door een senor jonge en kwam ergens het tweede uur in de art klas. Dat was niet veel bijzonders. Ook de andere uren niet echt. Nou ja, senior math was best eng. Die mensen zien er allemaal zo oud uit en de klas was helemaal vol dus ik voelde me niet helemaal op mijn gemak. Iedereen had al soort van “vaste plekken” en ik ging ergens aan de zijkant zitten van.. Don’t mind me. Wel was er meteen al een meisje die meteen vragen stelde, Selena. Doordat zij dat deed kwamen er ook andere mensen naar ons/mij toe en toonden wat belangstelling. Meer kan ik ook over deze klas niet zeggen. History, de enige klas die ik toevallig met Jojo heb. Ik ben achter Jojo gaan zitten en we made some friends. Aleah vooral. Met haar en wat van haar vrienden hebben we ook lunch gegeten. En ja, de lunch was te eten! Niets mis mee. 

Na lunch nog 1 les, Engels. Ik kwam binnen en stelde me netjes voor aan de docent Mrs. Arnold. Ze ging eens kijken waar ze me kon neerzetten en vertelde me dat dat achteraan in het midden was. “I’m gonna put you next to Adam, he is a sweetheart you’ll like him!” Okay... No idea maar ik vind alles best, maar een aardig persoon zou leuk zijn ja! Het bleek dat Adam er net niet was vandaag, maar Savanna wel. De klas was bezig met een essay schrijven over een verhaal dat ze hadden gelezen, wat ik niet hoefde te doen van Mrs. Arnold. Dus mocht ik een boek uitkiezen in de library. De halve klas mocht dat overigens, dus na een boek uitgekozen te hebben moesten we direct terugkomen, want we mochten niet te lang wegblijven. Alleen Savanna en Macy (een vriendin van Sav) wilden voedsel dus we zijn helemaal naar Savanna’ s kluisje gelopen. Whoops. Was dit een slechte plaatsing van Mrs. Arnold? Ze heeft me naast een badass populair meisje geplaatst.. shoot. Ik moet me gedragen dus ik kan niet echt met haar omgaan... maaargoed dat waren was van mijn eerste gedachtes. Sav wilde me meenemen naar de assembly van de dag, ik had niet echt veel keus. “ You should come to the assembly with us! It will be fun!” En ze legde me uit wat het precies was. Dus omdat het homecoming week was hadden ze een soort bijeenkomst voor de hele school en gingen ze gekke spellen doen. Oke, ik vind het prima! Savanna nam me mee naar de gymzaal en daar ontmoette ik 2 andere vriendinnen van d’r. De assembly was gezellig en wanneer het over was heb ik op Jojo gewacht op de afgesproken plaats, waar Shelly ons ook opwachtte. Dat was de eerste schooldag. 

FUN (not so much fun) FACT: IK HEB DIT 2 X PERONGELUK NIET OPGESLAGEN EN VERWIJDERD. Ik had geeeeen motivatie meer maar ik heb het togh gedaan. A.U.B.
